So, how does the Canada Border Services scam call actually works? Let's take an in-depth look.

Canada Border Services Agency Scam Exposed

Criminals use the now infamous Caller ID spoofing technology. What is that? Your smartphone shows “Canada Border Services Agency” on its display without being from the Government, but fake. As a result, consumers get intimidated easily. Scared by the fact that they could be arrested, many Canadians press key 1 – as requested by the caller. The question is, what happens if you do?

In that case, a real person – the criminal – takes over the conversation. He uses official terms. After a short introduction, he proceeds to require your personal information, “just to prove your identity”. Needless to sau, they will use this info for identity theft. You might be smart, but there are a lot of people who fall for these Canada Border Services scam calls.

How To Avoid The Canada Border Services Scam Calls

This scam has been going around for a long time. It is similar to other Social Insurance Number scams that happen across the country. Don't get scared. Hung up the phone and report the call. It is very easy to do that, see below.

If you receive a 1-800 call from the CBSA, it is a scam as the organization does not contact the public directly. The Agency never requests payments, personal or financial information. No Social Insurance Number (SIN) or credit card numbers.

These calls may display numbers and even employee names that appear to be from the CBSA. On the other hand, emails most likely contain CBSA logos, email addresses, or employee names and titles to get the recipients' trust.

Phone scams are very prevalent these days in Canada, so here is what to do:

  1. There are all sorts scam calls with a call display as “Toll Free Serv”, call out with several different phone numbers. Today, the call display shown as 1-800-224-2316
The scammer can change the phone number in the daily basis to hide around the organized crime’s identity. I suggest the scam prevention education should be a public service that provide to the general public.

  2. I have been plagued recently by the Canadian Border Agency scam call. I noticed that the calls seem to come from different phone numbers, so that blocking those numbers won’t prevent future calls. It seems that they are able to hack the phone numbers from ordinary, unsuspecting Canadians who have nothing to do with the scam, making it appear that the incoming call is legitimate.

  5. South Central Alberta

    Jan 10 & 11, 2022
Same # called two times each day. The number is “403-650-5755”
We are in South Central Alberta

  6. Gotten two calls the past two days phone numbers are…
403-360-7565 (Called back the number and the name is “Colin”)
    403-352-8513
This is for the Sourthen Alberta area

  7. I’ve had three calls during the last three days. The telephone numbers are as follows:
    Dec. 8 2021 1-819-775-6962
    Dec. 7 2021 1-819-747-6893
    Dec. 6 2021 1-819-739-0168

  8. 604-495-8501 Robotic voice says they are from Canada Border Services that seized a parcel with my name on it that contained “illegal components” and now there is an “arrest warrant out”. Getting these calls about twice a day from different 604 area code numbers for the last week or so. Very exasperating!

  9. 905-263-4567 claimed to be canada border service, claimed I was going to be under arrest for illegal package. lol please press one lmao

  10. Every Day from multiple numbers. Border agency, duct cleaning, claiming to be calling from the government for different things such as a seized social insurance number being used under suspicious circumstances, border services, ect.. The list goes on.
Numbers recorded so far just today.
    705-348-1097 – 705-343-3528 – 705-351-7060 – 705-364-8211 – 705-354-8117 – That’s just on my cell
1 Border Services, 1 SIN number compromised, 2 claiming to be calling from Government for the Green Program wanting my personal info to see if I qualify and lastly of course air duct cleaning.
    Home phone number just today:
    470-204-1158 – 470-253-1831 – 906-352-3007 – 608-351-3035 – 906-212-3017 – 760-848-4286 – 760-742-6048
Ignored all but 1 call (third listed)- The one I answered they were trying to get my personal information by claiming they were calling me about my water heater rental and wanted to verify my information. The thing is I don’t rent a water heater and every-time I asked who they were they would give me a round about answer. When I said I don’t rent a water heater, the caller claimed I had misunderstood them and they were calling me to rent me a water heater and they wanted my personal info. Hung up.
It’s ridiculous, why are they not shutting these people down, sometimes they call as little as 15 minutes apart.

  11. Yep. Just received the call!. BE AWARE Call claimed that it was the Canadian border patrol; package with illegal substances have been found and associated with my name: and that there’s an arrest warrant for me! Suspicious since I don’t think the Canadian border will give you advance warning, but still be careful
number that I receive call from is 514-600-8772!
hope this help others stop these scammers!
