How to Spot Roblox Scams for Phishing

In all of these cases, the scammers are trying to extract your password or payment information. If you enter your information, the scammers will change your account password and strip it bare from all virtual items, then possibly even change the username and associated email so it’s less likely to be recovered.

To protect yourself, don’t respond to any messages promising free things and carefully look at the email address of the user who’s sending you messages. Administrator staff use the @roblox.com domain and nothing else, and they will never ask you to tell them your account details anyway.

Can You Get Free Robux From Generators?

As a general rule, only Roblox’s official social media accounts will occasionally post special deals or promotions where users can sign up for free virtual items. Otherwise, all websites that claim you can get free items are fake and should be avoided.

How to Avoid Roblox Scam Bots in Games and Chats

Unfortunately, there’s no easy answer for this. As Roblox has a relatively barebones security system to prevent people from creating bot accounts, more popular games can quickly become infested with accounts that do nothing but spam messages to lure players to phishing platforms.

In general, you can tell if an account is a Roblox scam bot if it contains a peculiar-looking name that states their intention from the get-go or seems too generic. Some examples include “ReadDesc,” “ReadMyProfile,” or even “FreeRobux.” Some Roblox scam bots are also created in waves to include an adverb and a noun followed by numbers.

Due to the prevalence of fake accounts, most don’t really bother to communicate with you for long if they realize you won’t fall for the bait. Typically, avoiding the subject matter at hand (i.e. entertaining their offer) will make them go away.

Avoiding Fake Traders

One of the most “long-term” cons are trading scams, which work by building trust with the victim, then springing on a possible trade with a special deal.

The scams work because they target inexperienced players who don’t know the inherent value of certain items. In other cases, a trader might offer to buy an item but will attempt to provide you with an external incentive that simply never comes after you give the item away.

To avoid getting scammed, start with low-value items and work on item-for-item trades of similar value and rarity. Don’t trust someone randomly telling you an item will skyrocket in price and pressuring you to buy it.

HAR File Scams

A more complex type of Roblox scams typically exists outside of Roblox itself, usually on Discord.

It typically involves the scammer trying to get help or sharing model and character designs. The scammer will attempt to get a .HAR file from you, which contains security information including your login. In most cases, they will ask you to inspect the profile in the browser tools and export files into the .HAR format.

These types of tasks are always a scam, as the .HAR is only used for account configurations and shouldn’t be shared with anyone (or generated and exported by the user themselves). If someone asks you to give them files, just ignore them.

What to Do With Roblox Scam Accounts?

Roblox scam bots or the scammers themselves will usually contact you via email or in-game chat. If they use Roblox to contact you, you can click on their profile to block and report them. List the report reason as “Scam,” and Roblox moderation will crawl through their message logs and ban the account if it detects suspicious activity.
