How the scam works:
India is a hot place and water sells like nothing else. As you buy some bottled water, you might feel safe to find that they all have their caps sealed and seem legit, but what you should do is check the bottom.
What crooks do is refill the bottles through a tiny hole they make in the bottom, and then plug it with plastic – so the spring water they drink first is replaced with tap water and then sold to tourists for $5.
How to avoid:
As mentioned above, check the bottom of the bottle for unusual shapes in the surface.
