How the scam works:
A textbook scam is out there tearing up the internet waves claiming that four million textbooks are available for download, for less than $50. Nice bait, since the average college student is spending between five and eight hundred dollars per semester on books.
Scam Detectors Most Trusted Websites in Online Security
- Guard.io (100): Surf the web safely. Clean up your browser, remove malicious extensions and check for privacy violations.
- Incogni.com (100): Delete your personal data from the internet and protect against scams and identity theft.
- ExpressVPN (100) Stay secure and anonymous online - Best VPN Out There
Unfortunately these scammers are in far off places and always changing their name. Also, the lack of a reputable online protection system makes it easy for crooks to get away with it. They will deliver you something for download but it’s not what you need or want.
How to avoid:
Less than $50 for millions of textbooks sounds good, but does that make sense? Sometimes even one textbook costs $100. Do your research before buying anything that looks too good to be true on sites like this and spread the word if you come across a version of this scam. Just be very careful with your credit card.
