How the scam works:
You are going to a different country for a few weeks and are planning to rent a car. Since you don’t have an international driving permit, you research on-line about local driving licenses’ rules and regulations.
You come across a website that offers temporary permits while there. Since you are on that website, scammers know you are not sure what the rules are – so when you are offered a $48 temporary driver license you might take it, but what you actually do is lose your money.
How to avoid:
Your own automobile association can give you advice on driving regulations all over the world. You can also check the rules and regulations with the national automobile authority of the country you’re visiting.
