How to avoid:
Be discreet and don’t let yourself be bullied. If you meet anybody you like, take your time to get to know them.
As an alternative, if you know ahead of time you are going to Egypt or to any other country where your sexual orientation might be dangerous, go register yourself on reputable specialty websites. Find somebody interesting in the country you're going to, start a conversation, and make sure you get to know him very well before you land there.
