Buy and Sell Facebook Pages Scam: How It Works

(with video below) You are a social media superstar. You check your Facebook wall every day and even have a fan page for your product or business. You are engaging with your friends, fans and followers, and everything seems to be so much fun.

Then one day you receive a message from a serious looking business or person. “We’ve noticed how active you are and how entertaining is your Facebook page. Great job! We would like to actually make an official offer to buy your page. We are interested in reaching out to your 3,125 fans, as they seems to be the right kind of customers for our line of business. Are you interested in potentially selling your page to us? The maximum we can pay is $9,500US.” How does the scam work?

Well, $9,500 looks like a great deal, indeed. As you start considering the offer, the scammer might request some proof that the fans are real, not fake. On the other hand, they might ask to see the demographics, as in region they live in and age your fans are.

The only way to believe you, they say, is to look at your page internal reports. That’s when they ask for access to see your backend page. “You don’t need to make me an admin”, the scammer might say. “…But you could make me an <Editor> so I can still see the reports”.

The negotiations start going on and you are happy to find out that the final amount is only paid if you let them see the backend of your fan page. That’s when the scam happens. You make them an “Insight analyst” and as soon as they get that right – they have access to your data. With that status, the scammer will remove you as an admin instantly and you won’t be even able to access your own page!

By the time you reach out to Facebook Support, the scammer jacked all your friends’ walls and spammed everybody with anything they have planned. Sky is the limit.

Here is some good news. Watch the video below to see how you can easily identify if the profile contacting you on Facebook is a fake.

Buy and Sell Facebook Pages Scam: How To Avoid

It should be easy. As tempting as might sound, never add anyone to your page you do not trust at any level of admin permission. If you do get removed as an admin, the only option you have is to check the email Facebook sends when you have been removed.

If you have those emails turned off in notifications, you have no chance to restore yourself to the page.
