Drinking Buddy

How the scam works:

The most common place where this scam is pulled is South America. You go to a local bar, even with a couple of friends, and start drinking.

During the evening, you make new local friends and might buy them a drink. They would like to return the favor and they buy you one, too. Whether they go to the bar and grab it themselves, or have the bartender as a partner, it is reported that they drop a substance  into your drinks – which will make you senseless for the next three hours.

In Venezuela, the drug is called Burundanga and sedates the victims even by touch.

How to avoid:

Never accept a drink from strangers unless you see the glass or the bottle at all times.
