vanillagift.com Review

The Scam Detector website Validator gives vanillagift.com a low trust score on the platform: 37.5. It signals that the business could be defined by the following tags: Questionable. Controversial. Flagged.. We are confident about our score as we also partner with other high-tech, fraud-prevention companies that found the same issues. So, why this low score? We came up with the 37.5 score based on 53 aggregated factors relevant to vanillagift.com's industry. The algorithm detected possible high-risk activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors noted in the Questionable. Controversial. Flagged. tags above. Long story short, we caution you about using this website. But let's explain in more detail.

Explaining Our Analytical Approach

We've displayed some important information within the Company Details section above, each deserving more explanation:

  • Proximity to Suspicious Websites
  • Threat Profile
  • Phishing Profile
  • Malware Score
  • Spam Score
  • Domain Blacklist Status
  • HTTPS connection
  • Domain Creation Date

While some are self-explanatory concerning vanillagift.com, let's dive deeper into the remaining ones.

Proximity to Potentially Harmful Websites

This metric gauges the connection, scored on a scale of 1 to 100, between vanillagift.com and websites marked as suspicious. Elevated scores point to a stronger link with these questionable online destinations. It's worth noting that website owners might not always be aware of their site's proximity to these dubious platforms or servers. However, a "Proximity to Suspicious Websites" score surpassing 80 strongly indicates a high-risk website, while a score below 30 signifies a less-threatening site.

Risk Factors: Threat, Phishing, Malware, and Spam

These indicators reveal the vulnerabilities and elements embedded within the HTML code of vanillagift.com. They become especially pertinent if the website has received reports from internet users who've encountered unsolicited emails, ads, or messages related to the site. In the context of vanillagift.com, our investigation continues working to pinpoint the specific category, but we welcome your insights in the comments below. A high Malware score generally implies the presence of suspicious code that might be unknowingly disseminated. Conversely, a high Spam score hints at a possibly spam-ridden email address associated with the business. Scores under 30 in both categories are reassuring, but any score surpassing this threshold should raise concerns. vanillagift.com is a questionable website, given all the risk factors and data numbers analyzed in this in-depth review. Share your experience in the comments.

Domain Blacklisting Status

This term indicates whether vanillagift.com has landed on any online directories' blacklists and earned a suspicious tag.

Assessing HTTPS Connectivity

This section provides insight into whether vanillagift.com boasts an 's' at the end of the 'HTTP' protocol listed in your browser's address bar. If the tab displays in green, consider it a positive sign.

Safe Check

We want our trust scores and reviews to be as accurate as possible so that you can protect yourself from online fraud. Our algorithm aggregates factors that efficiently analyze a company's website, in this case, vanillagift.com.

Tried to use a card for an online purchase but it wouldn't work, which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars. However, we did use the card to pay for groceries for several months. I simply had to set up a pin for the card - I had an actual card. I just received an e-gift card from this company, so am hoping I have no problems with it.
Not sure why they have such bad reviews on here? I use these vanilla gift cards all the time and I've never had a problem with them getting declined like some other brands of prepaids.
Scam. Can't activate cards ("A system error has occurred."), so it's impossible to spend the money. Send these people to PRISON.
Attempted one purchase after receiving this gift card and it was flagged with a "system error" I then proceeded to call the number on the back of the card. They requested for me to send in a copy of my ID front and back, utility bill, amongst other things for them to send me a new card in 10-14 business days. Even after I proved that I purchased the gift card myself. Terrible scam services
Fraud. Vanilla Gift denied the card on the first transaction, even though our young daughter was using it to buy food while away from home on a school trip. Now, she's not able to eat and they've taken no action to help aside from sending us a new card in a week. Don't recommend using them for anything, unless you want to give money to fraudsters.
I got this as a gift. I usually like seeing this type of gift cards from a certain family every year, but it seems they tried Vanillagift without knowing the consequences first. The website doesn't load and is filled with junk and malicious scripts (thankfully, I can block them with Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin), and I can't use this card with anything. It is completely useless and can't even go on my PayPal account. The gift card is very inconspicuous at the start, so I don't blame the family for buying it, but this has got to be one of the worst cards ever. Buy a regular Visa gift card from Amazon before considering buying from here.
Spent $200 on a defective gift card that was misprinted with only 12 of 16 digits at Walgreen's. Took 4 hours to get through to customer service and am still waiting. Based on other reviews -- will never get this money. Walgreen's that sells these cards is complicit in this scam. They are knowingly selling these cards to unsuspecting customers. Sad.
If I could rate this zero stars I would. Been on hold for an hour to figure out why I cannot use my giftcard. Any other customer support services respond promptly but this is just ridiculous. Hope this company gets some training or gets acquired by a company that actually has experience with providing customer service
Just plain incompetents must run this company its is the worst in the world. First they screw the card with there rubber glue then it takes them about 10days to replace the card and then they charge the amount the card is worth for customer service. Just complete incompetence never again and save your money
Received one of their gift cards as a gift along with the receipt for the purchase. Tried to activate the card online and it consistently says "system error." Called the customer service number and they want my name, date of birth, copies of the front and back of my driver's license, and a utility bill to send me a replacement card. I didn't even ask for a replacement card. And they provided no explanation as to why the card was not working. This company is a scam to receive people's PII and steal their identity.
Tried to use a Vanilla giffcard mastercard that had 150 on it.While online vendors will accept payment from the card, vanilla itself will decline purchases made because according to their representatives the card must be registered to the person. However vanilla does not provide the ability for a giftcard to be registered to specific user. When asked as to which merchants they do not decline transactions accepted by the merchants they hung up the phone on me.
Got a gift card and can't use because it wS hacked tried calling wait times are over 1 hr and still haven't spoke with anyone to resolve this issue! Sick and tired of receiving giftcatfs for my birthday that are always hacked and can't get resolved! Will not recommend please do not buy!they do not care about the customer because they already got their money!
The store I bought the card from did not activate card. Sent the documentation they requested but they wouldn't admit to receiving my email. They told me to wait 24 to 48hrs for a response but no call. I called them 48hrs later and they STILL denied receiving the documents even though I spelled their email letter by letter and they verified it a handful of times. 12 days later no resolution. I will advise anyone looking to a get a gift card to look somewhere else. These people won't help you if something goes wrong. They probably figure since is a small sum of money it wouldn't potentially be taken to court so they do NOT CARE. BUYER BE WARE, READ EVERYONE ELSES REVIEWS!
Saw a fraudulent charge on my gift card. Charge was at 11:15 am.. I just happened to check the balance at 11:30 am the same day. The charge was still pending. I immediately called customer service to report the fraud and was told nothing could be done for 7 days until the charge posted. Then it would be 90 days for an investigation. Customer service agent and supervisor were both rude. It's not customer service it's customer information. I'm not their customer, they're not trying to help me. The merchants and thieves are their customers. Will never buy a Vanilla Gift card again.
great site, am using this card from 6 month
A $500 Vanilla Visa gift card was purchased in December 2021 for a staff member as a Christmas bonus. There is no expiration date on the card, and so she didn't feel she had to use it right away. Today, she went to use it and found out it had been hacked in February. It was next to impossible to get in touch with a live customer service representative. She was put into an hour-long phone loop and then tried going online. There is just told her to call the number she had already called. She finally spoke to a representative who told her that because the charges had occurred the month prior, she could no longer refute them. This is absolutely unacceptable. Do not use Vanilla Gift Cards.
Have made multiple attempts using two cards and neither would accept. Customer service informed to use a computer (not my phone) and STILL did not accept. Was transferred to another person who said 'my cards had an issue.' However, I was charged! This was taken care of by my bank. Used anther website with NO PROBLEM.
I received a $100 Visa Gift Card in Dec 2018 as a Christmas gift from a family member. I left it unopened in its packaging for three years until I opened in in January 2021. I went online to check the balance and was surprised to see it had a balance of $0.00. I had never opened the packaging! It appears that the balance was emptied to a scammer’s PayPal account on 5/16/19 @ 5:15am. I filed a dispute (case # 33084316) with Vanilla Gifts and four months later, in May 2021, I receive an email that says: “Based on the investigation, no discrepancy was found, the case is beyond the timeframe to recover through the network. Please refer to the cardholder agreement.“
VanillaGift.com doesn't have an option of re-sending the gift card to the correct address, even if just one letter in the email address has been misspelled. Literally one letter! The Customer Service rep will have to file the refund request for the Manager's review, they would get in touch with you in 48 hrs, and then issue a refund that will take 3-5 business days to reach your method of payment. How incredibly short-sighted, inefficient and plain stupid not to have this simple option of a little wiggle room for the misspelled addresses. So once you place this order, there is no way to course correct this transaction. You are stuck. I guess they don't need business clients.

“Scammers”

If I can give zero stars I would. Put 200 on card every where I tried using it card declined, trying to call Customer services was just as worse. Then they told me in 3-5 business days I would get a replacement card that is a bigger joke. I suggest NO ONE buy these cards.

“THESE ARE A PIECE OF $#*!”

Man it was a transaction for the rest of my money on my card and I couldn't even get no food. I'm on the phone with consumer service and they telling my they can't do anything but how am I supposed to eat today I didn't make no transactions.

“SCAMMERS - DO NOT TRUST WITH YOUR MONEY”

This company is a scam. If you want to get someone a gift, buy them a regular gift card or give them money. Do NOT trust these people with your $$. They will take it. I have a $50 vanilla Visa card which is now literally just a useless piece of plastic. I can't Use it in person anywhere, online, at an ATM, or exchange it for cash. Visa literally just took my money and isn't letting me use it. Card claims to be "active" and it has a balance, But no matter where I try it, it declines as if I have no money. Visa offers ZERO actual customer support and doesn't even have an email, because they know they're scamming you and they don't care. This isn't even legal. Will be reporting this company to my bank so they can dispute the charge, since Visa won't even let me report an issue to begin with. Site needs to be taken down! This is an illegal scam. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY Tip for consumers:They will take your money then give you a useless card you can't purchase anything with. SCAM!! Service Value Quality

“NEVER FUNCTIONED”

I bought a card, signed up, attempted to use it and failed. I emailed the company, and they apologized for my inconvenience. It never worked. Further emails and phone calls could never seem to find anyone. EVERY time I've looked up the balance, there is a "system error" NEVER use VanillaGift.

“Can't use”

This cared is declined a lot. When I called customer service they told me that if it is declined, I should try another store. They could not fix the card that they said was activated and had $400 on it. I had to request a refund.

“No Good/Stay Away/Run”

I tried to use card on several sites and am always told that card is invalid. I checked the baIance online and it is active and has the balance I purchased. I tried to contact customer service and was no way to be able to speak to anyone. Went online to speak to someone and site gave me no option to do so. So here I sit with a "gift card" that I cannot use and wasted money. Oh well lesson learned.

“Never again!”

I tried at a couple retail establishments with no luck. I then read that someone had had luck adding it to an amazon gift card. I didn't have any luck with that either, but it now has no balance. Then when I went on its website yesterday, I got a trojan2020 virus which basically tells you your computer is infected. I did get rid of that by clearing my cache and browsing history. I give up as it sounds lie calling their customer service may do you more harm than good. Service Value

“Ripoff by vannilla gift card co”

I purchased a vannilla gift card on feb 27 and on march filed acomplant about fraud. After 6months and dealing with three different companies I recieved a letter stating that per payment agreement my claim was out of timeframe for recovery.Letter was dated sept 10.Do not under any circumstances buy a vanilla gift card because there is fraud you will probably never get your money back and all they will do is give you a runaround. Tip for consumers:dont do business with vanilla gift card Products used:gift card Service Value Shipping Returns Quality

“DO NOT BUY”

We bought a gift card to use on vacation instead of bringing the one from our account and they put a stop on it. We now have to wait 5 to 10 business days for another card to be sent and it screwed up our entire vacation. We had NO money! DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND! Tip for consumers:DO NOT PURCHASE!!! Service Value

“Terrible card as it does not work with most retailers, especially online”

Never buy anyone a Vanilla Gift card. These cards used to work online easily but this has changed. I was reading that since changes made in 2024 to protect companies against fraud, most retailers will decline this card. Amazon does not accept it anymore, nor does Walmart, Trader Joes, Paypal, Applepay, Google Pay, and many other businesses. I have personally tried using it on Amazon, Walmart online, Trader Joes in person, Ebay, Poshmark, and even Geico to pay a specific amount of a bill. It declined on every platform and requested I use a different payment method. The only business I know that accepts it so far is Jamba Juice. This worked for me in person today. I am told you might be able to pay for gas with the card, but you must go inside and tell them exactly how much to put on the card or it will decline because gas stations place a temporary hold on the card when put in at the pump. Long story short, these Vanilla gift cards cannot be used at most online retailers and are also hard to use in person. Calling customer service leads to them telling you to try a different merchant and that only certain online merchants will accept the card. I called them twice and they said the card is active and should work but that the merchant I was using might not accept it. This is very inconvenient, as the Vanilla Gift VISA card is supposed to work anywhere Visa is accepted. I am so frustrated with this card and I highly advise no one buy them. “Are they a scam?”

Been trying to get my $50 card activated for three months now. Get a total run-around from Indian call center luminaries like Marleen, Justin, and Oscar. They won't give their real names.

“THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CARD DOESNT WORK. I WAS SCAMMED”

I'd like to start by saying that I NEVER leave reviews and I NEVER yell at customer service. However, I did BOTH with this HORRIBLE company. I initially contacted Vanilla Gift Cards about my $500 card not working on July 22. I submitted my proof of purchase on July 23, meeting all their requirements. I called again later in July, then on August 3, and August 14. In August, I spoke with a supervisor twice. On August 3, I was told my issue would be escalated, that they had received my documents, and that I would receive my new card in 5-7 business days. When I didn't receive it, I called 11 days later and spoke with another supervisor, who informed me that a 30-day wait was necessary for resolution and a new card. It has now been 42 days with a non-working $500 gift card. Despite submitting my paperwork and being assured it was received, I called again today and was told they didn't receive anything and that I must resend everything. DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR CARDS. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT. THEY MAKE EMPTY PROMISES. THEY WILL SAY ANYTHING TO END A CALL WITH YOU.

“Terrible customer service!”

Bought a card as a gift. When daughter tried to use it, it had already been used. We called customer service and have been dealing with them for 6 months. Since they originally had daughter's address and we had sent her a new card, we asked that send replacement card to our address. They agreed. We even sent copy of our drivers license (March) as proof of address. Found out today (June) that they sent a replacement card even before they asked us for our address in March. I have been calling every couple weeks since then and they never bothered to mention they had already sent replacement. What a waste of my time all these months. Beware if you buy their cards and have an issue. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. Products used:Gift card Service

“Scams from vanilla cards”

I paid 310 dollars for a card to send to another account. The card was no good and returned. That's twice that a bogus card was used for me.after the initial fee of 310 dollars. That makes it 100 each for 2 bogus cards that were late going to the recipient. I want my money. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality

“Avoid these like the plague!”

I received a $500 Vanilla gift card at work and it has been a complete pain in the $#*!. I hate this thing! Initially, I bought a VR headset with it but decided to upgrade to the next version which had just come out so returned it at Best Buy. Everything appeared to be going smoothly until I tried to buy something with the card a couple months later. The card was frozen. I couldn't access my funds. After getting a degree in how to navigate their ridiculous customer service portal, I was eventually able to speak to a human. By this time I was pretty pissed. It took a couple hours before I could figure out how to actually talk to someone. I asked the guy if I could just have a check or cash or anything but what I had and he said that was not possible. He unlocked the card and said I should be able to use it. The next time I went to use it, it was locked again. I called again and had it unlocked. This time, I decided to try and buy another gift card from a department store using the Vanilla card just so I could be done with Vanilla. What do you think happened? It was locked again. I am absolutely beside myself. I hate this company with every fiber of my being. I told my boss that I would quit if they ever gave me anything associated with Vanilla again. For the life of me, I cannot understand how a functioning company can be this bad at every facet of an otherwise simple business. Horrible!

“They suck”

They suck, they are fricking annoying and have c crappy customer support, they dont work on 99% of websites, paypal tells me that its already on another account, etc. i hate them, Tip for consumers:nothing Products used:nothing Service Value Shipping Returns Quality

“Poor customer service”

I have contacted the fraud dept 6 times concerning the Vanilla gift card I was given by co-workers as a departing for gift. I called to activate the card and was told it had a zero balance. I immediately contacted the fraud dept. and opened up a fraud case. As months elapsed, I contacted the fraud dept to check on the status of my case. Each time I'm told my case is still being investigated. When I ask for the issue to be escalated to a higher manager, I am put on hold and noone ever takes the call. This has been going on for 18 months now. I am so over this scandalous company. I would advise do not buy this gift card!

“Awful customer service”

I recieve the card as a gift. I never set up a pin, but was told I did. And customer service was unable to help. The card ALWYAS declined as a debit purchase. Had to use as a credit purchase. Calling customer service was a waste of time. Do not purchase. No way to check your balance. This becomes money wasted and more in their pocket DO NOT purchase. Service

“Crooks”

“DO NOT RECOMMEND!”

I received as Christmas gift, used once then got hacked and lost $200. It's now the end of May still with no resolution. No one is able to help with Customer Service. Do not buy! Not worth the stress or hassle. I will NEVERRRRRRR use or purchase EVERRRRRRR again! Service Value

“Lost m'y money”

First i lost 50$ ont vanilla prepaid visa open à file whit vanilla prepaid custumer services on febuary 04 2024 and Still no return from them and on a second card i lost 10 $ that is Block for no reasons and once again costumer service can not fix it so dont buy these cards cause if you have à problème whit il you re gonna be stuck whit your lost Products used:Vanilla prepaid visa gift card Service Value Quality

“Vanilla Gift Cards are horrible”

I purchased a $140 gift card. I open it and one of the numbers are scratched off so o can't activate it. I call and they start the process to "fix the issue" and tell me that means a process of sending me a replacement card that will reach within 30 days was the option. I told them that was ridiculous and took it back to the store. They told me there was nothing they could do because a dispute with the card was initiated. The manager of the store told me that I would still be able to use the card, though. She told me that card was activated and ready to use. Ie kept getting declined when I tried to use it. I finally had to call back the company and get another card issued and asked if it could be rushed. No answer. I received the card today and it's only for the orbital balance of $130. Inconvenient, false information, and a waste of time. This company couldn't even offer a $10 gift card for the trouble? This is the worst company and their customer service is horrible. I will never buy from them again and everyone else should save their money too.

“Vanilla gift don't purchase”

This use to be a great card but over time there is less and less I can use the card for. More and more businesses WONT take prepaid cards for payments any more. Plus it sux that I put "my" cash on the card and can NOT get my own cash back off the card. Bought one many times to pay my auto insurance but now my insurance won't accept prepaid cards. My on line games won't accept prepaid cards so now I don't have any reason to purchase one ever again. Notify me if you fix these issues otherwise I will never buy one again no reason for it.

“Not that bad”

Just need a patient and accuracy info for dispute. After talked with customer service That took a very long time, I gave up all of the purchase that's been swept by theft to be disputed. Surprisingly…about 2 months (as the representative said) they really send me another card with the rest of amount which the thieve stole it. Thank you, I really appreciate it. Suggestions for others, make sure check balance or activate card in "official website" Service Value Shipping Returns Quality

“Check balance”

I have tried several times and days to obtain my balance and the systems says try at a later date. I appreciate if someone would look into this problem and correct the problem. Thank you. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality

How To Remove Your Information From the Internet

Whether you like it or not, unfortunately, the Internet has all your personal information stored. How did that happen? Every time you visit a simple site and accept cookies, consent to their forms, or download an app, unscrupulous data brokers collect not just your phone number, name, AND address. They also sell this to third parties, which creates a $1 billion industry a year. Your collected personal data is used by buyers to send you never-ending spam emails, targeted ads, and, of course, telemarketing calls. Crooks use all your data without remorse.

We can help. Many people have asked us about how to remove your personal information from the Internet. If you want your data deleted entirely from the online world, contact our official partners at Incogni immediately. This legitimate data privacy tool works on your behalf to officially require a ton of online brokers to remove your data.

Are You the Owner of vanillagift.com?

If you own vanillagift.com, we’d love to hear from you. If you'd like to challenge the trust score we’ve assigned, we’re happy to take a closer look. However, please be prepared to provide solid proof of your business's legitimacy. Introduce yourself with your name (not just "Admin").

When domain owners contact us to dispute their trust score, we kindly ask for the following:

* Business documentation that verifies your legitimacy (e.g., certificate of incorporation, business registration, or official records with the site or business name).

* Your personal LinkedIn profile and the business's social media accounts (e.g., Facebook).

* If available, proof of satisfied customers (e.g., screenshots, not just testimonials on your website), evidence of inventory, or records of handling order cancellations properly.

We’re more than willing to update your review based on the evidence you provide—the more proof, the higher your trust score. Please note, however, that we cannot verify non-operational websites or those redirected to other URLs. Additionally, we do not verify websites involved in high-risk financial services, gambling, adult content, or illegal activities.
