textbooks.com Review
The Scam Detector website Validator gives textbooks.com a medium-risk trust score on the platform: 65.4. It signals that the business is best defined by the following tags: Known. Vetted. Low Risk.. We are confident about our score as we also partner with other high-tech, fraud-prevention companies that found the same issues. So, why this score? We came up with the 65.4 score based on 53 aggregated factors relevant to textbooks.com's industry. The algorithm detected a slightly lower risk for activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors, noted in the Known. Vetted. Low Risk. tags above. Long story short, we recommend staying vigilant and using common sense when engaging with this website. But let's explain in more detail.
Explaining Our Analytical Approach
We've displayed some important information within the Company Details section above, each deserving more explanation:
- Proximity to Suspicious Websites
- Threat Profile
- Phishing Profile
- Malware Score
- Spam Score
- Domain Blacklist Status
- HTTPS connection
- Domain Creation Date
While some are self-explanatory concerning textbooks.com, let's dive deeper into the remaining ones.
Proximity to Potentially Harmful Websites
This metric gauges the connection, scored on a scale of 1 to 100, between textbooks.com and websites marked as suspicious. Elevated scores point to a stronger link with these questionable online destinations. It's worth noting that website owners might not always be aware of their site's proximity to these dubious platforms or servers. However, a "Proximity to Suspicious Websites" score surpassing 80 strongly indicates a high-risk website, while a score below 30 signifies a less-threatening site.
Risk Factors: Threat, Phishing, Malware, and Spam
These indicators reveal the vulnerabilities and elements embedded within the HTML code of textbooks.com. They become especially pertinent if the website has received reports from internet users who've encountered unsolicited emails, ads, or messages related to the site. In the context of textbooks.com, our investigation continues working to pinpoint the specific category, but we welcome your insights in the comments below. A high Malware score generally implies the presence of suspicious code that might be unknowingly disseminated. Conversely, a high Spam score hints at a possibly spam-ridden email address associated with the business. Scores under 30 in both categories are reassuring, but any score surpassing this threshold should raise concerns. textbooks.com is likely a safe website, given all the risk factors and data numbers analyzed in this in-depth review. Share your experience in the comments.
Domain Blacklisting Status
This term indicates whether textbooks.com has landed on any online directories' blacklists and earned a suspicious tag.
Assessing HTTPS Connectivity
This section provides insight into whether textbooks.com boasts an 's' at the end of the 'HTTP' protocol listed in your browser's address bar. If the tab displays in green, consider it a positive sign.
Safe Check
We want our trust scores and reviews to be as accurate as possible so that you can protect yourself from online fraud. Our algorithm aggregates factors that efficiently analyze a company's website, in this case, textbooks.com.

Ordered an ebook and NEVER received an access code or was given a way to access ebook. I tried calling their customer support number and it just said help was only available via email.
The worthless piece of crap service can't even offer a DIGITAL textbook instantly.I just spent $50 on a textbook for a college course that already started, and it's stuck on processing even after the money has come out of my account. When you buy a digital textbook, it's supposed to be simple and instant. You have to go out of your way to be terrible and disorganized enough to complicate it more than that.
Bought an e-textbook for $40 (which was about $10-$20 cheaper than other places) but only had access for 30 days. They did not disclose this information until it expired. So now I have to reorder on Vitalsource for $50 (120-day access) since midterms are coming up. Moral of the story- check how long you have access for.
I rented out a used book that was already in bad condition (pages were already stained and dirty) plus I never even opened it and when I shipped it back I get a stupid email from them saying it was rejected because it was "damaged". I recommend you people buy your books somewhere else this company is a scam full of scumbags.
Worst experience ever. I have two quizzes tonight and my textbook from another website hasn't been delivered yet so I bought the eTextbook version to read the chapters I need to. Turns out I paid $30 for nothing. I never received an access link for my book (like it said I would up to 30 minutes after purchase) and I've been waiting hours. The real kicker is that I can't even cancel my order or get my money back (as far as as I know). Don't waste your money here.
I found a great deal on this website and took a chance after reading the bad reviews because it seemed like most people with negative experiences just hadn't read the descriptions before buying or had a technical issue with an e-book. I'm glad I did! I ordered a new textbook and it shipped quickly and was packaged well. Would absolutely order again.
I rarely write reviews but I wanted to help out the students out there that are in dire need of "instant access" e-textbooks. JUST STAY AWAY, ITS FALSE advertisement. They do not grant instant access to reading your etextbook. Its been already 2 days since they are "processing" my order and have not let me grant access to my readings. I cant even contact customer service because they are only open on the weekdays during business hours. For those who need a e- textbook ASAP, DO NOT PURCHASE FROM TEXTBOOKS.COM (or else you might have to turn in an assignment late or waste more time and money to find a simple e-book).
Deceptive Selling Practices-Buyer Beware. I received an advertised very good book with writing and damaged. I reached out to them and they told me I was responsible for return shipping and the shipping charge of $8 for a book was not refundable. The book was sold as "not as advertised". I caution anyone buying books from this site- it's a scam.
Don't buy from these people! Some of my students bought their ebooks from Textbooks.com but found that they were missing several chapters from the text. They contacted the company, as did I, and were told that that file is what the publisher gave them. My other students with ebook versions of the text had all chapters so I'm sure this isn't true. They did nothing to compensate the students. They had to purchase new copies from elsewhere - and get this, they had all the chapters in them. I would never recommend doing business with this company and I will always keep a warning in my syllabus so that future students can avoid getting ripped off.
The worst best seller company ever, placed the order on 8/24/20 and didn't get the textbook for 9/14/20 now. I did sent several emails to follow up and I asked for refund and didn't get any reply, which make me paid and didn't get my textbook for my class. I was waiting for the textbook in urgent and my class have been started three weeks now, the worst service ever. I will never purchased the books again from this bookseller.
As a book scout, I deal with many vendors: textbooks.com (in Missouri) is the absolute best, offering prices which are often 2-3x higher than their competitors. Free shipping via UPS, low rejection rates, & fast payment via PayPal makes them a no-brainer.
I needed a textbook fast, so I ordered from textbooks.com in the form of ebook to study before my physical book from Barnes&Noble comes. Textbooks.com promises to deliver the materials within 30 minutes from ordering. Two hours later the status was still showing "authorization in progress". When I clicked on my order it was bringing me to the screen to put the ebook to the cart. another thing is that the first page is deceitful in the way of making potential customers to think returns and cancellations are possible. I could not cancel the transaction. You gotta be kidding me. I already called my credit card company and will be contacting an appropriate governing agency, in addition to BBB. Steer off from dealing with textbooks.com. I want my money that was charged for nothing, back.
I have bought the ''sponsored e-book'' , which basically puts out a 30 secs ad made by textbookmedia, it is not annoying and I do not think it pops up heavily, I got the book immediately, they have some features : -bookmark , highlight, add note, search by keywordsand they just launched their sponsor e-book, I personally think that they are a great company, made for a great cause, and they are looking to improve, and it looks like 2021 is an important year for them, they are not amazon-e-books, but they will get better, you should probably give them a try!
You think you’re purchasing a specific e-book title that clearly states to be read on Vitalsource Bookshelf, only to be scammed and discovering you were instead charged for a Pearson+ 4 month subscription service on Pearson‘s website. Not an e-book!
The price was good and I was able to access the e-text early on. But, soon had to reset my password 20+ times. There is not 24 hour assistance. During an proctored exam tonight, where the textbook would be needed to be used, once again I was unable to access. This was a timed test, so spending time struggling to access the text was stressful. I gave up trying and failed that portion. I would NOT recommend! Very unreliable!!
My son enrolled in Roanoke College. It’s been weeks and he still cannot order books on his Maroon Card. Starting to think we made a bad choice of school. If they deal with such a problematic company I can only imagine the education he will get there.
They are liars, they recieved my textbook and said "We have received the shipment for order 0086964. However, we are not able to buy Art History, Combined Volume (4th Edition). The book is marked "Examination Copy". It is against our policy to purchase any books marked this way.Your new total is :$00.00If we do not receive a reply within the next 10 days, the book will be recycled. If you want your book returned to you, you will have to pay return shipping. Please reply to this email for more information."THEY SCAMMED MY BOOK!!!!THEY ONLY DESERVES NEGATIVE STAR IF THERE IS ONE
I am livid. I need a book for tomorrow and ordered it yesterday morning. It is an E-Book, and even though it says it's still authorizing, money is showing pending on my bank account. I wouldn't use Textbooks.com ever again, and do not trust them.
I ordered a textbook for my class 2 weeks I. Advance. It never arrived, said that it was the wrong address (it wasn’t). I never got the book for my class, or even notifications. I had to call and see why it didn’t arrive and the company offered no viable solutions for the massive inconvenience.
I will never use this website again, and I recommend that no one else uses it either. I have homework due tonight for this and it said my book would be ready in an hour. It has now been well over an hour since I have purchased this and I cannot access this. I have emailed their support team and still have not received an email, this is the worst experience I have ever had.

“Stay away!”
Thi site is AWFUL. Won't work with you at all if you've purchased the wrong textbook. Make you just eat your money! Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Help college students out! We're not made of money!
“Horrible service”
The holes don't line up with any binders and the lady on the phone was dumb. "Well maybe you need a specific binder... let me check. 5 minutes later nope you don't so idk why it doesn't fit"... waste of money do not use them Products used:Books Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Re:”
Just an update. I was able to receive my refund within l-3 business days after returning empty box sent to me. But make sure you verify product being ordered. If price is a little low, you may want to go to another supplier, or verify first.
“They LIE about textbook condition!”
I purchased a "used" book. When I received it the cover was torn. They exchanged it and the replacement copy was worse than the original! This cover is loose & also torn. I feel lied to since they claim books are "good" or "excellent" condition. I've demanded my money back. I was able to purchase a NEW (still in shrink wrap) copy on half.com for about the same cost. I didn't expect a perfect copy. I expected used. However, I didn't expect one that looked like it had been through a war zone and is almost falling apart in the middle.
“Would not use again!”
Ordered a book that was in stock on Thursday from textbooks.com. They waited until Monday to cancel the order, presumably because it was out of stock. There was no explanation. One star for the quick refund, I guess?
“Very Poor Service”
I ordered a book through Textbooks.com com which has not been sent to me. Their website claims that the order is complete. I contacted their customer service and got an email indicating that although I purchased the book through them the order is completed by Hippo books and I should contact them now. There was no effort made to find out the status of the book. If companies are to sell other companies products then they should make it very clear to their customers to exactly what is going on at the point of purchase. This is unsatisfactory and unacceptable practice.
“I placed an order for a book online seeing that there...”
I placed an order for a book online seeing that there was only one left from a seller. There's a place where you can view pending orders and after 15 minutes, when the page showed nothing but I knew my order had gone through I contacted customer service who told me that it had gone through. I received an email sometime after with a tracking number notifying me that the book had left the warehouse. So, for the most part it was worry free except their orders not showing up on your order list. They also had a thing where if you return the book within a time frame (for school, a semester) they can give you up to a certain amount which is useful if you want to 'rent' a textbook. I chose to keep mine so I can't comment on that process, but it's helpful to know.
“Never ever sell your textbooks through this store!”
This company is a scam. Their website clearly says that they accept textbooks with exposed code (though not for a full credit). And they obviously sell the used textbooks with the exposed codes (again written on their website). However, when I sent my expensive textbook to them them marked it "damaged" and said that the reason is because the code was exposed. And offered me to pay 10$ to ship it back. Basically they stole the book. I'm pretty sure they are not going to recycle it but will rent it out or sell as the used version (given that the new one costs $250, the used one of this edition will cost at least $100). Never ever repeat my mistake and try to sell your textbooks through this scam company.
“I strongly advise against using them”
Ordered a text ($300) from them on 8/14. Charged the credit card the next day. On 8/18 an empty box arrived. On 8/20, waited on hold for tech support for 25 minutes; tech support confirmed the box went out empty - but blamed the publisher - and promised to send another. 6 days of checking found no new shipping information. On 8/27, called tech support. The second book order was "lost" - again by the publisher - and another would be "sent out in 2 - 6 business days." Cancelled the order. When a company can't check themselves for errors, and keeps blaming a major publisher, you don't need to do business with that company.
“Advertises books they dont have.”
They will lead you to believe all the books they advertise as available are ready to be purchased. Not true. Bought a book only to have them tell me two days later it was not available. They did refund my money but I was left scrambling to buy from another vendor as class was beginning soon. Suggest you stay away from this company.
“They make customers pay for their mistakes”
I ordered one book, was charged and delivered two even though there's only one book on my account history and no confirmation on the second book anywhere. Yet, I am still paying $16 to ship the second book I did not order or want back in order to get a refund. Please do NOT purchase anything from their marketplace. Save your time and energy for a company or your local book store that won't play you like a fiddle.
“Stole my book and my money!”
Do not order from this company! I mailed two books to them for the buy back option, they said they never received one of my books even though the tracking number shows it was delivered and they now refuse to give me my money back or my book. RUN AWAY!
“Don't sell used books here”
Sent $35 worth of books in and received $5 for them. 2 of the books were in excellent shape and the third had most of the exercises filled in but it was a 15 year old book that is still being used for classes. We were at least the 4th purchaser and I believe we purchased it for textbooks.com. We added no extra markings and just copied the questions. I will not be selling or buying any more books to textbooks.com
“I will always buy from them”
I read many negative reviews about this site, but most were about Ebooks and I felt as though I would try my shot with a regular textbook as it was $30-40 cheaper than anywhere else on the internet. The book came in a few days which was faster than anywhere else said theirs would and it came just as described. I will be buying from them again and watch the reviews. I can't attest for ebooks, but their textbooks come quickly and they are cheap. Products used:A text book Service Value Shipping Quality
“Missing chapters from ebook”
I'm an instructor and some of my students ordered from this lousy business. Their ebooks had several missing chapters. They didn't get any help or consideration from this lousy company and had to buy new copies somewhere else. Don't do business with them.
“Resell offer is a scam!”
Resell offers are deliberately vague so that they can claim lesser condition and/or missing code at which point they will give you nothing and try to charge you twice the postage to return the book to you. Look for a reputable company to buy and sell your textbooks with. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Customer Service will not respond”
First off, the fact that they do not publish a phone number that you can call for customer service should have clued me in that they do not provide customer service. I ordered an eBook that their website claimed could be printed. Sadly, I needed to be able to print the book and could not. I searched for a customer service number and could not find one. I even called the registered agent for this company located in Delaware, but they said they could not disclose their client's phone number. I've sent multiple emails, and it's been over a week with no response. Ughhh!
“Textbooks.com has a good selection of features that...”
Textbooks.com has a good selection of features that help it stand apart from the competition. Most notably, the website is not limited solely to textbook rentals. Textbooks.com allows you to purchase and sell your textbooks online, its very helpful for Textbook.com. I save money and time, So the textbook.com is very quickly to delivery the books for the customers.
“Took my money then told me the book had already been sold!”
I ordered and paid for a textbook, then later the next day was told that their system was behind and they didn't know the book had already been sold so my order was declined and that it would be 7-10 days to get a refund and if I don't get a refund to contact the seller myself because they don't have access to their financials. Wow, thanks for the great customer service! Won't be using this website again.
“I have ordered my books used with my knowledge that...”
I have ordered my books used with my knowledge that they would in fact be used. I expected signs of wear, and that's exactly what I have received. One of the books had tape to help hold it together, but I didn't mind as long as it was falling apart. The books were extremely reasonable, and I'm happy with their service. I saved money and enjoyed.
“Please please please DO NOT order from this website no matter what you do”
As a college student who has ordered materials from virtually everywhere, I am quite confident in claiming that Textbooks.com has the worst products and services in the textbook market They misrepresent what they are selling to make more sales. Their customer service is horrid, and their representatives are arrogant and have zero skill, nor a care for their job whatsoever. I have lost lots of money to this website sheerly because the employees have no clue what they're doing. Listen to all the terrible reviews, and don't make the same mistake that I did thinking your order will be the one order that they won't screw up.
“Be very careful.”
When purchasing textbooks, be VERY careful. Textbooks.com will take NO responsibility for any "Marketplace" books that they sell on their site. If the seller cancels the sale, you are not notified. If your textbook doesn't arrive, good luck getting it replaced or getting a refund. You are totally on your own, and no one in Customer Service will take responsibility. I am out the cost of textbooks that I paid for, which never arrived. The "Marketplace" seller - who I had to track down by myself, states that they notified Textbooks.com that my order couldn't be fulfilled. This notice was never forwarded to me. I did receive a confirmation of my order, a shipping date, and an anticipated delivery date, however. Still no textbook. Tip for consumers:Be VERY CAREFUL when buying from "Marketplace" sellers. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Didn't get order cannot access it”
My order number is # ******* if anyone can help me. I payed 20 for a book I needed for class, and every time I try to access it, it says I need to allow access to cookies lol. I also had to click Do not sell or share my personal information. I didn't even realize it was on. Such a scam.
“No problems”
The key here is to buy only from textbooks.com, if you see a listing under "Marketplace" it is a different company and about half the time you'll run into problems. But everything I have bought from them has been fine and arrived by UPS on time. As far as selling books back you're better off selling the book yourself if you expect to get a big pay off. They are picky about the condition, but what the reviews here don't mention is that when you create the quote to send them the books in the first place they cover shipping, so if they can't sell the book it makes sense that they try to cover the loss.
“Horrible”
Product was for 30 day rental, which is dumb for a textbook rental. But I suppose that was my mistake for not checking closely enough. Called about it and they said "oh well, sucks to suck" basically. Did not care at all. Will not buy from them ever again. Sent an email about it and their reply was equally careless, which surprises me that they wouldn't care about repeat customers, AND they misspelled my name when it was right in front of them. Do NOT use this site. Products used:e-Textbook Service Value Quality

Top 5 Effective Ways To Spot a Scam Website [VIDEO]
There are many types of fake sites in the online world. We have some good news. Watch the video below to see the 5 effective ways you can spot a fraudulent website in 2024:
How To Remove Your Information From the Internet
Whether you like it or not, unfortunately, the Internet has all your personal information stored. How did that happen? Every time you visit a simple site and accept cookies, consent to their forms, or download an app, unscrupulous data brokers collect not just your phone number, name, AND address. They also sell this to third parties, which creates a $1 billion industry a year. Your collected personal data is used by buyers to send you never-ending spam emails, targeted ads, and, of course, telemarketing calls. Crooks use all your data without remorse.
We can help. Many people have asked us about how to remove your personal information from the Internet. If you want your data deleted entirely from the online world, contact our official partners at Incogni immediately. This legitimate data privacy tool works on your behalf to officially require a ton of online brokers to remove your data.
Our staff verifies that this service works and is trustworthy. For robust, essential protection, their Standard plan is a steal at just $8.29 for individuals, and you can extend that crucial peace of mind to your entire household with the Family plan (up to 5 users) for only $16.49. They also introduced the Unlimited plan starting from $14.99 that covers not only automatic data removals, but also unlimited custom removals available right away upon purchasing the Unlimited plan. It allows users to submit websites not yet covered by Incogni and get their data removed from there, too. They also offer a free exposure scanner that will give you an insight into what data of yours is exposed and where.

Are You the Owner of textbooks.com?
If you own textbooks.com, we’d love to hear from you. If you'd like to challenge the trust score we’ve assigned, we’re happy to take a closer look. However, please be prepared to provide solid proof of your business's legitimacy. Introduce yourself with your name (not just "Admin").
When domain owners contact us to dispute their trust score, we kindly ask for the following:
* Business documentation that verifies your legitimacy (e.g., certificate of incorporation, business registration, or official records with the site or business name).
* Your personal LinkedIn profile and the business's social media accounts (e.g., Facebook).
* If available, proof of satisfied customers (e.g., screenshots, not just testimonials on your website), evidence of inventory, or records of handling order cancellations properly.
We’re more than willing to update your review based on the evidence you provide—the more proof, the higher your trust score. Please note, however, that we cannot verify non-operational websites or those redirected to other URLs. Additionally, we do not verify websites involved in high-risk financial services, gambling, adult content, or illegal activities.
