speedtest.net Review
The Scam Detector website Validator gives speedtest.net one of the higher trust scores on the platform: 87.1. It signals that the business is best defined by the following tags: Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure.. We are confident about our score as we also partner with other high-tech, fraud-prevention companies that found the same results. So, why this score? We came up with the 87.1 score based on 53 aggregated factors relevant to speedtest.net's industry. The algorithm detected little high-risk activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors, as noted in the Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure. tags above. Long story short, we deem this a secure website. But let's explain in more detail.
Explaining Our Analytical Approach
We've displayed some important information within the Company Details section above, each deserving more explanation:
- Proximity to Suspicious Websites
- Threat Profile
- Phishing Profile
- Malware Score
- Spam Score
- Domain Blacklist Status
- HTTPS connection
- Domain Creation Date
While some are self-explanatory concerning speedtest.net, let's look closer at the remaining ones.
Proximity to Potentially Harmful Websites
This metric gauges the connection, scored on a scale of 1 to 100, between speedtest.net and websites marked as suspicious. Elevated scores point to a stronger link with these questionable online destinations. It's worth noting that website owners might not always be aware of their site's proximity to these dubious platforms or servers. However, a "Proximity to Suspicious Websites" score surpassing 80 strongly indicates a high-risk website, while a score below 30 signifies a less-threatening site.
Risk Factors: Threat, Phishing, Malware, and Spam
These indicators reveal the vulnerabilities and elements embedded within the HTML code of speedtest.net. They become especially pertinent if the website has received reports from internet users who've encountered unsolicited emails, ads, or messages related to the site. In the context of speedtest.net, our investigation continues working to pinpoint the specific category, but we welcome your insights in the comments below. A high Malware score generally implies the presence of suspicious code that might be unknowingly disseminated. Conversely, a high Spam score hints at a possibly spam-ridden email address associated with the business. Scores under 30 in both categories are reassuring, but any score surpassing this threshold should raise concerns. speedtest.net is an authentic, safe website, given all the risk factors and data numbers analyzed in this in-depth review. Share your experience in the comments.
Domain Blacklisting Status
This term indicates whether speedtest.net has landed on any online directories' blacklists and earned a suspicious tag.
Assessing HTTPS Connectivity
This section provides insight into whether speedtest.net boasts an 's' at the end of the 'HTTP' protocol listed in your browser's address bar. If the tab displays in green, consider it a positive sign.
Safe Check
We want our trust scores and reviews to be as accurate as possible so that you can protect yourself from online fraud. Our algorithm aggregates factors that efficiently analyze a company's website, in this case, speedtest.net.

“Scam!”
Pretended to be from Sky and was calling got help my broadband speed. I believed it as I'm having an upgrade from Sky tomorrow. Very difficult to understand, wasted my time for 20 minutes before I realised they were trying to sell me something. Not rude or aggressive at all, just annoying. Maybe they have a great product, I didn't get that far. But pretending to be from Sky is not a great way of building trusting customer relationships
“Excellent”
This is an excellent test site to help you determine the speed of your internet connection. It helped me confirm the difference between two different SIM cards that were allegedly connected to the same network provider (Three) but the speed of each card was radically different.
“Junk since 21 Sept. 2020”
Speedtest from OOkla used to be a very good place to get information about your internet speed, but apparently they've hired some new programers who think they know how to do things better, and have destroyed the once "good" application. I have been using CLI for 4 years now and as of 21 Sept. 2020 it is no longer dependable. Strange results on pings for server selection tens of thousands of miles away and latency speeds better from servers on the other side of the planet make absolutely no sense at all. Too bad, I was hoping to use it for proof of speed to my internet provider, now I have to use something else.
“Don't Trust Speed.net!”
I recently detected my internet was very sluggish on my pc, tv and laptop at my home. So I checked Speedtest.net and it's telling me I have a download speed of 244 mbps! No freaking way! So I tried another site Measurement Lab which came in at 73 mbps. Which to me sounds more realistic. I'm apt to believe the other reviews here regarding Speedtest's association/involvement with the ISPs. Tip for consumers:Check other sites as well. Quality
“Scam beware”
Speed test called me yesterday and today pretending to be from sky. When I wouldn't go to the web address given, the man started shouting "you stupid stupid woman!" At which point I said I was reporting the call to the action fraud UK (which I did), and was told by the "sky" employee to F*%K off. Called sky to report it. Never type in a web address from a cold caller.
“Speedtest? Or Money Test?”
Its completely not worth test at this site since its gonna show what their customer (Telco) want not us (Consumer). I tried various site such Fast.com and Speedcheck.org which shown same result while Speedtest just overly shown otherway. Tip for consumers:try Fast.com or Speedcheck.org Products used:Internet speed Check Service Quality
“Inaccurate, plain useless”
speedtest.net will not detected simple download or upload problems and so it is a pretty fake and inaccurate tool and it's been that way for a loooong time now. It will be accurate only if you have no problems with your ISP.
“Do not say that Airtel is a fastest network”
My opinion About Airtel Add, they says that ookla says India's fastest network is Airtel in this I can say that u people spoiling your name plzzzz. Please remove that word because Airtel is a worst network ever I seen... Tied of complaining to dem so bringing to your notice hoping for the best..
“Tampered Result”
I use 4 different tests after trying 16. I want the speed before it enters the router and when it is exiting. The big O has the exact result by 2mbs EVERY time. It doesnt work that way, speed changes in ms. Unless it is averaged over a wiiiide spectrum. It annoys me that they have so many using O, knowing that my speed is probably over 40gbs understated. It also shows stats almost the same with towers 1500 miles away, are we that dense.
“Fake and inaccurate”
The only real speedtest is googles version because it gives me close to exact information. speedtest.net said i had 20 ping but when i went to play a game it was in actuality 3000ms and unplayable. The fake website said i was getting 300kp per sec download but when i went to check on one of my downloads i was only getting around 20kbps. Please don't trick yourself into thinking that your internet is good and don't use this website. Ps my wifi sucks
“It needs to show an average speed not the max only.”
This speed test only shows the maximum speed regardless of the average speed during the test, which does NOT give an accurate picture. Many times my average speed during the test may be 30-40, but at the last second or two it jumps suddenly to 90-100 and that shows as the final speed - which is not the real picture of the average internet speeds. This test needs to be changed to reflect an average test speed or else it's not worth using. Speedof.me does an average of several quick tests and is a much more accurate and honest picture of what to expect coming from your ISP.
“On par with other test sites”
I saw the complaints of unfairness, scamming, etc. I just ran approx 15 speedtests on 5 sites OTHER than speedtest.net. All were the same +/- 10 Mbps (normal). All put me at an average of 60 Mbps download and 5.70 upload. It should be noted that for an accurate test, you should run it with a wired (ethernet) connection, not over wifi, which can cause extremely varied results. If you don't trust me, or speedtest.net do your own tests. Of note is that AT&T is one of the sites that put my speed as almost equal to what speedtest said. They have no financial interest in fudging my data upward--if they were trying to benefit, they'd fudge it downward, and try to convince me to leave my isp.
“Works most of the time”
Works most of the time - sometimes it shows that my connection lags super hard but in real life it's fine. Weird. But i'll use it anyway - there is no real competition for it.
“The #1 place to check on your internet speed and quality”
The #1 place to check on your internet speed and quality. This site accurately tells you what speeds your actual getting compared to what you are paying for. Simple interface and gets the job done. Great mobile app too.
“I do a good amount of online gaming and have friends...”
I do a good amount of online gaming and have friends ask me how they can tell if their internet service is good enough for online gaming. This website allows you to see valuable information like download speed, upload speed and ping. This information will help give you an idea about just what you can expect your internet to do. Or if you just would like to know how good your internet is, run there very easy to use website.
“STAY AWAY! Spedtest.net IS A SCAM!”
I received a call on my landline asking about my internet speed, claiming to be from BT Broadbrand. They were very insistent on me needing a "computer". It was a man with an Indian Asian type accent! He asked me to go on the website and consent. Something told me to check reviews first as the man on the phone seemed unprofessional and suspicious. Upon checking I alerted him to the fact that there were negative reviews of this website. He immediately said "hang up and I will call you back on another line, which didn't make any sense. Needless to say he didn't call back and realised that I was on to him! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Do not press "I consent"! THEY STEAL ALL DATA FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND SELL IT TO THIRD PARTIES!
“Good way to find your internet speeds... BEWARE the data they STEAL!”
When I purchased the Speedtest application I had NO IDEA they would, ultimately, change/enhance their Privacy Policy to include gathering ALL the information they can glean off your computer from use of that application. They THEN sell/use all your data they can glean. I liken this policy to a Hacker stealing all of my personal information. Malware is NOT needed. Their corporation (Ziff Davis) are an anathema to internet users expecting just a MODICUM of safety in the US. A HEADS-UP to all users. I contacted their lawyers and the reply was: "By beginning the test, you are agreeing that such data may be collected during the test and used in accordance with our privacy policy. If you do not wish to have such data collected or used, do not use the Speedtest products or applications." USER BEWARE!
“I went to this site at the advice of my tv provider...”
I went to this site at the advice of my tv provider Direct TV (bundled with AT &T internet). They stated my internet speeds were 4.0 and. 75 respectively which is simply not true. The worst is about to come, they offered a simple scan to boost my computers speed so I clicked the button it finished the scan and told me to reboot my computer and it hasnt worked since. It says I have a missing dlnet file and won't boot up. Be warned! Stay away from this site. Any site that has software that ruins computers should be banned from the internet.
Speedtest.net is awarded Airtel to the fastest data 4g, but what I get result is 0.03 mbps etc etc I dont find to attach a screen shot of my discussion with my FIL
“Speedtest.net is a SCAM SITE ( PROVED)”
Speedtest.net is a completely scam site, it is faking the internet connection speed. There might be a possible chances of tie up with ISP's. You can check the proofs in the below link https://www.tinycent.com/Speedtestnet--is-a-SCAM-SITE- Thank You
“Windows 10 app: Inconsistent test results and no Help About”
I compared the web page tester against the Windows 10 app rating both out of 10. Web page tester: 9 (Acceptable: No way to report issues) Windows 10 app: 1 (Terrible: Very Inconsistent test results, no Help About and no way to report issues) Clicking GO several times in the Windows 10 App provides a high variation in results (download: 10-138mbs, upload: 14-18mbs). The web page tester provides expected results (download: 100-150mbs, upload 11-13mbs). I suspect the implementation of the Windows 10 app was assigned to someone who knows about implementing apps on Windows 10 but less about handling network events and measuring throughput. I rate the Windows 10 app as extremely poor -- app needs testing before distributing. To be a network distributed application it must have Help About with software version and provider and any legal notices, especially if there are privacy considerations. I have uninstalled the Windows 10 app for fear of privacy violations.
“ISP providers like you to use this speedtest, because...”
ISP providers like you to use this speedtest, because it is hopelessly unrealistic. Beware. Thaivisa gave me upload around 100kbps, speedtest.net say 600kbps. Big difference, and I know speedtest is wrong, as I cannot use my webcam on some sites - too slow for them.
“Fast and easy diagnostic tool”
Really easy to use. Useful for diagnosing performance issues. One click is all you need to do, and results appear seconds later.
“This site is a scandal”
This site is a scandal. Always, AT&T ask me to test on this site. When I have terribly slow and connections dropping and can't even refresh any page and load just a html site, this would test for 2.3mbps to 2.5mbps. Other site tested my speed as 46kbps to 400kbps. But, this site always give the good result. This should be scandal for some testing takes as long as 2 minutes and still it says 2.5mbps. May be they are only testing the burst speed?. But, ISP are using it for their advantage.
“Good.”
Good thing to check the connection speed + an app to do so on the wireless networks I`m on. Easy to use with quite a few ads though.

How To Remove Your Information From the Internet
Whether you like it or not, unfortunately, the Internet has all your personal information stored. How did that happen? Every time you visit a simple site and accept cookies, consent to their forms, or download an app, unscrupulous data brokers collect not just your phone number, name, AND address. They also sell this to third parties, which creates a $1 billion industry a year. Your collected personal data is used by buyers to send you never-ending spam emails, targeted ads, and, of course, telemarketing calls. Crooks use all your data without remorse.
We can help. Many people have asked us about how to remove your personal information from the Internet. If you want your data deleted entirely from the online world, contact our official partners at Incogni immediately. This legitimate data privacy tool works on your behalf to officially require a ton of online brokers to remove your data.
