Is roomies.com Legit?

Great website and one I'll keep using and recommending as long as I need a roommate! The required info the site asks for by both parties knocked out a lot of the initial back and forth, which saved a lot of time, and allowed you to find good candidates to reach out to rather than just having to contact EVERYONE. Definitely a big help for me!

This was the only site that I found to be useful in finding a place to live remotely. All the other places I tried had so many scams. Roomies had verified people and verified listings which made it so much easier. It's great to be able to connect with other people who are also looking for a place to live. Excellent site, highly recommend!

I was ripped off by a roommate back in Mar-Apr 2023. I was going through a divorce at the time and this roommate named Jim ripped me off for my money. He pretended as if he specializes in divorced men. I get in the home he didn't have adequate security for my room. He only provided a key code for my door that anyone could guess. When I was living there he did a bait and switch not allowing me to cook my meals. I couldn't use the bathroom as he complained about me slamming down a toilet. He was listening to my conversations in the room. He would also make insults to me about my appearance. Basically, I was to be seen and not heard but I'm required to pay him rent there but live like I was in prison. I had to move out 2 weeks early but he retained my deposit and rent. I complained to Roomies.com and theu refused to even refund a portion of my money. This situation left me homeless in Dallas as a result. This company needs to allow the tenants rate their roommate after the stay to avoid unethical owners.

Not enough people on this platform. Also didn't know this was a foreign based website. I was charged foreign transaction fees.

I appreciate the fact that it is free to use, it is very friendly user, we do not lose past conversations. I like that we can get the background check done directly on the site. Since my husband lost his job 2-1/2 years ago, I have advertised a room on “Roomies” and found nice tenants.

I’ve found two really solid roommates on roomies in the past 3 years. Ones that have stayed for multiple terms and have treated my space well. Will definitely continue to use to find tenants to fill my spare bedroom whenever it becomes free again (my roommate now will be here for another year!)

Roomies was easy to use and the listers were responsive. Although I didn't the up renting any of the rooms on this website it did give me confidence that the listers were legit.

I am a nomad and until recently had a lot of trouble getting approved for a place. The roomies platform is super user friendly, and it connects you with rooms and potential roommates. If you make a profile youre sure to get messages!! Def recommend for short term arrangements or budget rooms in houses.

The website is easy to use and the verifications systems in place made me feel safe and gave me a good view on the possible renters.

I recommend Roomies as my experience with them was quick and pleasant. I contacted and was contacted by a few landlords. They personally showed me their house. I have already signed a short-term rental contract. I am happy with the outcome.

The site is old & outdated. People hardly respond, nor do many remove their listing once they no longer need a service. Stick with a paid service or CL.

Roomies got a lot of fake and scammers on their platform. They don't tell the truth at all. It's better to get what you want from either friend and family or realtor. Don't waste your time here

You never know how accurate or honest someone may be. Most recently met with a potential roommate in person, and was told the room was not available. They could have told me this in an email, instead of using up half my day with travel time. Also recently, I found what looked like a good roommate match, but they never replied, so why did they even list the room for? Thanks for letting me review.

Easy to sign up and get an account setup. I liked that I didn't really need to do too much, but of course it is great that it verifies you. Able to search and either team up or find a room.

While this site does make finding a roommate or room to rent super easy, it's also a super easy way to be scammed. I decided to rent from an individual on this app and I thought everything was fine. Come to find out a few months later that the person on this site was subletting and the owner of the home had no idea. So then I was kicked out, never got my deposit back and they never reimbursed for the remaining money from my unused month. That person is still up on this website too. On top of all that the roommates were absolutely dirty and never cleaned up after themselves. Half the time there were moldy dishes in the sink, the bathroom was disgusting and the house was nasty. I was the only one who ever cleaned up. It's too much of a gamble finding people on this website.

Continual breakins and trespassing onto property by houseless and criminals. Landlord ignores safety issues and deletes relevant clips of trespassing on his security cams to avoid liability. Cops called. Dangerous conditions in house made me end up in ER. Got termination notice after I was injured on the property due to unsafe living conditions. “This lady is as nuts as they get!”

Owner Francisca wants someone to control...has cameras everywhere. Ordered me around doing chores that her or her son could do but she is sooo lazy, very loud and very deceptive. A wily personality. Police have been here twice already and I have only been here 2 weeks...said she doesn't get along well with women but I am a man and trust me, she's off her rocker. I am studying yoga, that's my demeanor! Good luck to the next victim. Room was great though with adjacent bathroom. Can't say anything bad about accommodations. This website is great, I got a lot of traffic for my ad and found a roommate in a few weeks after talking to about 15 people. I had a much better experience here than with roommates.com. I was impressed by the amount of work that must have gone into creating this site. It is simple to use And most responsive. Each time anyone expressed an interest in the rental I was immediately contacted by email. Helpful forms and suggestions were created as guidelines to help both parties negotiate through clear communication about the expectation that arise during the rental process.

This home is located in Conyers. The lady in charge has issues and a lot of rules. You can't have guest but once a week. They're cameras all over the place except in your room and bathroom. She watches and monitors your every move 24/7. Parking is terrible because you basically park on the side of a hill and there in no sufficient space if you have a big truck. You can't really use the washer and dryer if you have large loads and have limited space in the fridge. You can't use her oven or stove.

Don't go for Verification or document verification with Roomies because only they will loot your money & they will say roomies have chosen to cancel your request, without any reason. Moreover, they don't even have customer support so eventually, you will end up with nothing but losing money. I spend money twice but no results. Go to any local agency for a background check or even for finding a room. And yes, they'll say write us an email but GOD knows in which decade they'll respond. Tip for consumers:Just don't use them. “So sketchy”

I honestly don't know where to begin. I've been looking for a roommate for the past month on here. Out of the replies that I get, once I try to access them by phone off the website they go MIA it's so weird! I ended up finding a roommate off Facebook! I had someone reach out to me and worked out her move in date around early June. Then once it was time to exchange phone numbers, she wouldn't reply. I began trying to directly reach them by phone or reverse google them on linked in and such. I think they are all fake profiles honestly don't waste your time!

Over the weekend, I messaged a woman with a strange name, let's just call her "dolphin," looking for a roommate, and after 2.5 days, I had still heard nothing back, despite seeing she was online. I messaged her again to let her know she should've responded in that time. Then she called me a $#*!, which was weird because she was in her 30s, so like, act your age. “Be diligent”

The site may be fine, but be diligent with who you rent from in here. The lady I drove 2000 miles to move in with, didn't own the property, she leases it. She didn't want the owner to know. Just make sure you're dealing with an owner, not a tenant

“Where's the consideration?”

I legitimately signed up because I desperately need a room as rentals are scarce and rents have been grossly escalated. I was forced out of my place due to high rents and no maintenance or repairs, plus we were faced with 13 pages of addendums which was a totally comply or get out ultimatum. One place wanted $675 in advance as a cleaning fee in case we skip out during the night. Others are forcing renters to set up e- funds transfers from our bank accounts to pay rent, no other options, so next time we have a disaster, you may not eat but they'll have your rent payment. So anyways in light of the current situation, I expect posters to be honest and prompt. If your listing is still up but you already have a roomie, be considerate and take down your posting. If someone inquired about your spot and it's no longer available, be courteous and say so, don't leave them hanging waiting for a response. On 3 separate occasions, I have not gotten a response. This is discourteous and you shouldn't be allowed to post if you can't respond to inquiries. It's the posters' responsibility to remove the add so do so when it is no longer available. Plain and simple- a little respect. People don't like to be toyed with. Tip for consumers:You won't always get an answer. You get emails directing you to certain Roomie ads that aren't current because they've been filled but you have no way of knowing. I never saw any dates as to when add were posted so you don't know how old they are. Products used:Roomies site to match roommates.
