moviepass.com Review
The Scam Detector website Validator gives moviepass.com a medium-risk trust score on the platform: 65. It signals that the business is best defined by the following tags: Known. Vetted. Low Risk.. We are confident about our score as we also partner with other high-tech, fraud-prevention companies that found the same issues. So, why this score? We came up with the 65 score based on 53 aggregated factors relevant to moviepass.com's industry. The algorithm detected a slightly lower risk for activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors, noted in the Known. Vetted. Low Risk. tags above. Long story short, we recommend staying vigilant and using common sense when engaging with this website. But let's explain in more detail.
Explaining Our Analytical Approach
We've displayed some important information within the Company Details section above, each deserving more explanation:
- Proximity to Suspicious Websites
- Threat Profile
- Phishing Profile
- Malware Score
- Spam Score
- Domain Blacklist Status
- HTTPS connection
- Domain Creation Date
While some are self-explanatory concerning moviepass.com, let's dive deeper into the remaining ones.
Proximity to Potentially Harmful Websites
This metric gauges the connection, scored on a scale of 1 to 100, between moviepass.com and websites marked as suspicious. Elevated scores point to a stronger link with these questionable online destinations. It's worth noting that website owners might not always be aware of their site's proximity to these dubious platforms or servers. However, a "Proximity to Suspicious Websites" score surpassing 80 strongly indicates a high-risk website, while a score below 30 signifies a less-threatening site.
Risk Factors: Threat, Phishing, Malware, and Spam
These indicators reveal the vulnerabilities and elements embedded within the HTML code of moviepass.com. They become especially pertinent if the website has received reports from internet users who've encountered unsolicited emails, ads, or messages related to the site. In the context of moviepass.com, our investigation continues working to pinpoint the specific category, but we welcome your insights in the comments below. A high Malware score generally implies the presence of suspicious code that might be unknowingly disseminated. Conversely, a high Spam score hints at a possibly spam-ridden email address associated with the business. Scores under 30 in both categories are reassuring, but any score surpassing this threshold should raise concerns. moviepass.com is likely a safe website, given all the risk factors and data numbers analyzed in this in-depth review. Share your experience in the comments.
Domain Blacklisting Status
This term indicates whether moviepass.com has landed on any online directories' blacklists and earned a suspicious tag.
Assessing HTTPS Connectivity
This section provides insight into whether moviepass.com boasts an 's' at the end of the 'HTTP' protocol listed in your browser's address bar. If the tab displays in green, consider it a positive sign.
Safe Check
We want our trust scores and reviews to be as accurate as possible so that you can protect yourself from online fraud. Our algorithm aggregates factors that efficiently analyze a company's website, in this case, moviepass.com.

“Complaint”
Movie pass is the worst company ever! Now I understand why they don't have a phone number to reach them. I have contacted them dozens of times about them charging $20 a month on my credit card but they just keep on doing it and I can't do anything about it. Service Value Shipping Returns
“It's motivated me to have fun outside of the house and see great movies”
Easy to use and an incredible bargain. I don't hesitate to go out to see a movie now. I've actually forgotten how wonderful seeing a movie in the theater is. It's improved my life and that's not am exaggeration Products used:7 movies so far Service Value Shipping Quality
“Do not even consider moviepasds”
You will thank me later. The RECENT reviews, Oct 2018, spell it out. I live in Los Angeles and there hasn't been any movies available for 2 weeks from their all. Their customer service is garbage. Don't be a fool!
“Do not subscribe, surcharge on every single movie!”
Over course of a few weeks, MoviePass has changed price plan and access to available movies. Every single movie now has a surcharge fee, whether it came out a few months ago or today. Not sure how terms of paid membership can change midway. I see MoviePass ending future due to extensive law suits with misleading huge customer base.
“MoviePass is Highway Robbery!”
MoviePass MoviePass is the worst company I have worked with BY FAR! MoviePass went out of business and years later starter the business again. I purchased my agreement, $10.00 monthly payment for 34 credits was a good deal. A person could see 2 maybe 3 movies if matinee time. Then the company increased the movie credits from 10-15 to 20-30 credits to the see same movies however still continue to roll over the same points max. However still took money from your account and gave you no points. That's not how you do business! Especially not with your current customers that have supported the company and midstream during an agreement. Contacting someone at MoviePass is very time consuming, frustrating and most likely no resolution. The company takes your money each and every month however refuse to increase your points. Due to the company increasing movie points higher, taken payment from my account monthly, not providing me with the service of points I am paying to receive I will take my business and money to Cinemark. The offer is better and I will receive discounts. Doing business with MoviePass is highway robbery! The way the movie points are set-up for movies, only a max points are rolled-over and no matter what money monthly will be deducted from your account, you will always loose points and money. Highway robbery!
“App never works and automated message are their customer service”
My app won't work but my girlfriends does all the time. They have an automated message service that is horrible and answers off of key words in your complaint. Pay $10 a month for an app that works half the time if pathetic. They don't help or give u any kind of a resolution or reimbursement. Don't know if I will let them rob me of my money for much longer because that's what they do. Almost feels like a scam.
“Discriminates the wheelchair customer”
My son bought me this gift for Mother's Day not realizing that it will not accommodate people who are in wheelchairs. Since I require wheelchair seating, I tried to call to call to make sure they don't charge my credit card. Their customer service is HORRIBLE! They do not respond. They like to take your money and run! Don't use this website - they discriminate!
“Crooks!”
I was given a MoviePass but never received the card from the company. When I reached out to them, they said they would send me another one, which they never did. And when I got back to them once more to complain, I got an automated answer saying that my ticket was closed. No way whatsoever to contact them through their website as you first have to pay a new subscription, which I am of course not willing to do. The company sucks!
“Still a mess- even with a new rollout”
This whole rollout of the new movie pass is a mess. I've been subscribed 4 times, received 4 cards in the mail & can't get a hold of customer service to fix it. Nobody responds to any of my emails it's just automated replies. I'm trying to cancel my subscription in the app and it doesn't work. You can't even change your plan level in the app. Tip for consumers:Just don't do it. It sounds too good to be true because it is. Service Value Quality
“In their death spiral now”
I thought this service would be great, well they keep botching it. I signed up for one-a-day annual, and it started out great. Then they started getting blocked by theaters not allowing access to their loyalty program (can't get points for tickets bought with MP card). Then they started changing the plan limiting what can be seen when. I get an email saying my annual plan will be reinstated but not renewable when over, ok. Then their support pretty much became unavailable with support issues summarily closed without be addressed (and I was trying to point out app failures). Now it seems they are back to limiting annual plans to three movies a week. Just can't say what's going to happen next. Work the numbers and consider the benefits and if it works for you fine, but it seems every week they are trying something else and it's not being communicated.
“Its a scam waste of your money. Don't fall for their scam.”
I used movepass card to purchase movie tickets first couple of times I didn't faced any issues from third movie when tried to purchase a movie ticket everytime it got declined. When I tried to resolve the issue through chat in mobile app no one responded or tried to fix the issue. Every month $10 is deducting from my account but the card doesn't work and no one will resolve the issue. Tip for consumers:Please do not signup for moviepass and waste your money and time. “Movie Pass Beta Chicago Bad Review”
Just got the $15 plan through Movie Pass here in Chicago. It originally said 2-3 movies. Then today, when I went to use it at AMC on Illinois St in Chicago app wasn't working. It kept saying I had to be by the theatre. I was literally at the theatre box office inside the building. Also, one movie was 30 credits of the 34 you get from the $15 program. That's ONE movie not 2-3. Also, NO customer service phone number and NO response by email. Don't do it! Products used:Movie Pass Beta Chicago Service Value Quality
“Stay Away!”
Started as a sincere idea, but it has turned into a scam, possibly a ponzi scheme. I got ripped off with my annual subscription, many others, I am sure. Forget about complaining, problem resolution, or asking about your money back. Just check the BBB review of their business. It's getting to the point of considering legal actions against potential fraudulent business practices. Despite all the facts, I keep seeing an individual, apparently the business owner, being interviewed online and on TV, and stating how the sun keeps shining and optimistically promising stability and bright future. Mister, the discrepancy between what you are saying and what really goes on in reality is called lying. If I was in your shoes, I would certainly talked to an attorney, and made sure the meanings of liability, fraud, and class action lawsuit are clear and understood.
“It's ok for now.”
I loved it till they changed the app. You have to type in your code right away. You used to be able to use your code to get your ticket later. But, now you have to wait till you get them at the theater. Service Value Quality
“No service, charged multiple times”
I ordered this service as a free trial. I was charged instantly. I contact customer service, no response. I was told I wouldn't be charged again until I activated my card. The card never arrived, and I was billed for two additional months. I contacted them multiple times, with no avail. My advise if you have an issue contact the Better Business Bureau. They handled my concerns promptly. As far as Moviepass.com, I highly recommend you advise this terrible service.
“Movie Pass Peak Pricing is a Sham”
I liked movie pass before the addition of peak pricing. Even though I don't go to the movies alot I go enough that it would be worth it and it may have even got me to the movies a little more. However with the addition of peak pricing not only isent it worth it. ( I pay movie pass 10 a month then have to pay 4 additional dollars to see a 7 dollar movie) the whole reasoning for peak pricing is bull! They say they charge it when the movie and show time you want to see is in high demand. I went to a movie last night. They charged me peak and I was one of 8 people in the theater! I took pictures. I cancelled movie pass right there and then! Hope this helps.
“ONE MORE TIME ITS GOING TO BANKRUPT”
WORST PROCESS OF BUYING TICKETS ON THE SAME DAY. NO ADVANCE PURCHASES ALLOWED. EITHER YOU NEED TO WAIT TILL LAST DAY OF THE MOVIE OR YOU WILL SIT RIGHT INFRONT OF THE SCREEN AND KEEP WATCHING THE SCREEN WHICH IS ON TOP OF YOUR HEAD
“New August 2018 Plan is so limited, totally NOT WORTH subscribing!”
I started in May 2018 and it was a great fit, 3 movies per month at a decent price, only issue you could not watch a movie twice. This was not an issue as I could watch what I wanted at any time. Perfect for me until the change in August 2018. Now it is HORRIBLE, do not subscribe. I couldn't unsubscribe fast enough. This weekend for example, in theaters in my town with 12 or 20 movies, only 2 were available around 3p and 6p (the others were movies I didn't hear of). I decided to go to one of them to use up my passes, but when I got to the theater, that choice suddenly disappeared and I was left with 1 to watch. I was so disgusted that I left the theater only using 1 of my 3 movies for the month, since I at least got my fee back with 1 viewing that month.
“Useless for 'Hindi' movie lovers”
I stopped going to theaters due to expensive tickets. This was when Movie pass came into picture. In the beginning it was great, one can watch any movie can pick by choice. We watch both Hindi and English movies, so are are friends. Slowly restrictions came up and all Hindi movies are Unlisted not even premium pricing even if they don't belong to big banners or budget. THERE IS NO OPTION TO WATCH THEM AT ALL! WHY SHOULD I WATCHED A MOVIE BY FORCE OR RESTRICTION RATHER THAN BY CHOICE. Is there any way to get rid of the pass?
“Horrific”
Subscription is the worst! Do not join unless you want to pay and not see any movies ever! It's like a donation! Stay away!
“Dishonest: m Circling the drain”
Dishonest. Bought a year pass with certain understandings. When rubber meets the road the rules keep changing. Near impossible to use.
“Fraud”
They charge me but never delivered the card. Started renewing the subscription. No customer support. No way to contact them. Surely something fishy
“It is a great value, but beware of shady changes”
Overall, let's face it, MoviePass is a great deal. You pay $10 a month to see movies in theaters. I signed up in February and I loved it. This was when unlimited really meant unlimited, meaning that I could go see a movie a day, any move (sans 3D or IMAX) in any participating theater, which is what I signed up for. The creators then began asking for photos of movie tickets, which wasn't a horrible inconvenience. However, the weekend Avengers: Infinity War released, without warning, MoviePass rolled out another update and limited all movie viewing to a single viewing. Shady and suspicious, to be sure, but acceptable despite its unfairness. Most voiced their concerns and were ignored. Suddenly, MoviePass started promoting that unlimited movies was back, but it is not. You still can only view each movie once. So, beware of the false advertising they consistently do without any concern for how their customers feel. Another thing to note is that getting through to customer service is next to impossible. When my card was shut off randomly for no reason, I called 4 or 5 times, and kept hearing that there were too many people calling and I had to call back later. Then, when I got through, I was on hold for approximately 30 minutes of the 55 minute phone call to resolve the issue. In addition, any texts you send through the app vanish after you read their response, so you cannot pull up the conversation later. Take screenshots of any conversations you have. So, yes, regardless of the shady dealings going on, one can definitely admit that the value for the money is great. MoviePass would be a great deal better if they actually had a customer service department that was available to help their customers and didn't ignore the suggestions, concerns, and complaints of their customers, and if they stopped their false advertising.
“Well it happened”
Went to a movie and card did not work. Waste of time and money and no one cares at Moviepass.com. Time to cancel Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Terrible”
Bad app, no CS responses. These guys need to get their crap together before they launch. Until then. 1 star

Top 5 Effective Ways To Spot a Scam Website [VIDEO]
There are many types of fake sites in the online world. We have some good news. Watch the video below to see the 5 effective ways you can spot a fraudulent website in 2024:
How To Remove Your Information From the Internet
Whether you like it or not, unfortunately, the Internet has all your personal information stored. How did that happen? Every time you visit a simple site and accept cookies, consent to their forms, or download an app, unscrupulous data brokers collect not just your phone number, name, AND address. They also sell this to third parties, which creates a $1 billion industry a year. Your collected personal data is used by buyers to send you never-ending spam emails, targeted ads, and, of course, telemarketing calls. Crooks use all your data without remorse.
We can help. Many people have asked us about how to remove your personal information from the Internet. If you want your data deleted entirely from the online world, contact our official partners at Incogni immediately. This legitimate data privacy tool works on your behalf to officially require a ton of online brokers to remove your data.
Our staff verifies that this service works and is trustworthy. For robust, essential protection, their Standard plan is a steal at just $8.29 for individuals, and you can extend that crucial peace of mind to your entire household with the Family plan (up to 5 users) for only $16.49. They also introduced the Unlimited plan starting from $14.99 that covers not only automatic data removals, but also unlimited custom removals available right away upon purchasing the Unlimited plan. It allows users to submit websites not yet covered by Incogni and get their data removed from there, too. They also offer a free exposure scanner that will give you an insight into what data of yours is exposed and where.
