acorn.tv Review
The Scam Detector website Validator gives acorn.tv one of the higher trust scores on the platform: 89.3. It signals that the business is best defined by the following tags: Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure.. We are confident about our score as we also partner with other high-tech, fraud-prevention companies that found the same results. So, why this score? We came up with the 89.3 score based on 53 aggregated factors relevant to acorn.tv's industry. The algorithm detected little high-risk activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors, as noted in the Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure. tags above. Long story short, we deem this a secure website. But let's explain in more detail.
Explaining Our Analytical Approach
We've displayed some important information within the Company Details section above, each deserving more explanation:
- Proximity to Suspicious Websites
- Threat Profile
- Phishing Profile
- Malware Score
- Spam Score
- Domain Blacklist Status
- HTTPS connection
- Domain Creation Date
While some are self-explanatory concerning acorn.tv, let's look closer at the remaining ones.
Proximity to Potentially Harmful Websites
This metric gauges the connection, scored on a scale of 1 to 100, between acorn.tv and websites marked as suspicious. Elevated scores point to a stronger link with these questionable online destinations. It's worth noting that website owners might not always be aware of their site's proximity to these dubious platforms or servers. However, a "Proximity to Suspicious Websites" score surpassing 80 strongly indicates a high-risk website, while a score below 30 signifies a less-threatening site.
Risk Factors: Threat, Phishing, Malware, and Spam
These indicators reveal the vulnerabilities and elements embedded within the HTML code of acorn.tv. They become especially pertinent if the website has received reports from internet users who've encountered unsolicited emails, ads, or messages related to the site. In the context of acorn.tv, our investigation continues working to pinpoint the specific category, but we welcome your insights in the comments below. A high Malware score generally implies the presence of suspicious code that might be unknowingly disseminated. Conversely, a high Spam score hints at a possibly spam-ridden email address associated with the business. Scores under 30 in both categories are reassuring, but any score surpassing this threshold should raise concerns. acorn.tv is an authentic, safe website, given all the risk factors and data numbers analyzed in this in-depth review. Share your experience in the comments.
Domain Blacklisting Status
This term indicates whether acorn.tv has landed on any online directories' blacklists and earned a suspicious tag.
Assessing HTTPS Connectivity
This section provides insight into whether acorn.tv boasts an 's' at the end of the 'HTTP' protocol listed in your browser's address bar. If the tab displays in green, consider it a positive sign.
Safe Check
We want our trust scores and reviews to be as accurate as possible so that you can protect yourself from online fraud. Our algorithm aggregates factors that efficiently analyze a company's website, in this case, acorn.tv.

Same problem as others in the cancellation facilty does not function, it directs to a customer service who email a 'we will respond' message but never do. I disputed the ongoing monthly charge to my credit card and got into a large amount of hassle with Visa. The Acorn emails originated from the US. Highly suspect.
How can I cancel my subscription when I haven't signed up for it? They are taking £49.99 a year and can't get it refunded as amazon can't find a subscription. This has happened twice before. Someone please help me
I had the same problem cancelling. The cancelling option inside your subscription doesn't work. Neither does emailing them about it! I've just found out right now that you need to use their Chat on the bottom of their website to actually get them to cancel it. If you complain about it to the Chat person you might get an offer of a free month before you actually cancel.
Avoid Acorn TV. There is no customer support and it's proving impossible to cancel my subscription. I've tried four times via the website and each time I get a message saying they are having trouble cancelling and to contact customer support. Each time I have done that there is no response and they continue to take payment.
Total scam. I am unable to cancel my account. Despite several communicationsvwith their support email.
Decided to try this as it has a lot of crime series. Set up free trial and browsed through the content. Firstly there is very little on here that isn't available (free) elsewhere. I liked the look of a couple of series but when I clicked to watch I got 'page not found', so even though content is pretty sparse, some of it isn't available anyway. This is quite a pathetic site to be charging a subscription to be honest. I followed the instructions to cancel and have received an email confirming this, however I will lock the card I used before the payment is due, just in case.
Same as others - tried to cancel subscription, link doesn't work. Emailed support to request cancelation - response saying your ticket has been resolved but after a few days I got charged monthly fee again. Repeated emails to support end up with automated response saying blah blah blah.Do not go near this scam.
Once you subscribe you are locked in FOREVER! No customer service! Unsubscribe is broken! Acorn doesn’t respond to email communication! Chat bot is permanently offline! Beware of this company.
Scammers! They have accessed my accounts in my smartphone and auto charged without authorization. I cancelled the cards, ordered new ones and filed reports with Acorn and Amazon. It has been a year and EVERY SINGLE DAY ACORN TV US ATTEMPTS TO STEAL FROM ME! I HAVE TO KEEP ALL CARDS LOCKED BEVAUSE SOMEONE BREACHED THEIR SECURITY AND AN INSIDER IS THIEVING THE WORLD. KEEP YOUR CARDS LOCKED OR ACORN WILL STEAL FROM YOU! AMAZON DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT, ACORN DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT...GET THE WORD OUT THAT THEY ARE THIEVES!
I bought a 12 month subscription to Acorn TV as a gift for parents but when we tried to setup Acorn TV the gift code they provided come up as not found. I contacted Acorn TV several times requesting a resolution of the matter to no avail. Finally I lodged a disputed transaction for the purchase with my bank. Acorn TV then suggested I phone a US number from Australia to try to resolve the issue. Finally, I tried to apply the gift to myself my creating an account with the gift code. I got a message saying I already had an account (which I never created) so I managed to log into my account and then I tried to apply the gift code and got the error that the code was not found. I would have given zero stars but 1 star was the lowest allowed. To me Acorn TV acts as a scam. I strongly recommend that nobody subscribe to Acorn TV.
Have tried to cancel my subscription for 4 days. Website says “Please contact support to complete this request.” So far have only received automated responses to my requests. There is no Customer Support Hotline. Chat page which is meant to operate 24x7, doesn’t work. In their automated response it lists a URL, that doesn’t exist. All I hear is CRICKETS! What is going on in Acorn, that a simple cancellation has turned into saga & nightmare!!Nine days later, after repeated emails to Support, Accounts & Help Centre, there is still no response from Acorn TV, except they have taken money for another month's subscription.
AVOID the SCAM…didn’t subscribe in the first place, yet my requests to cancel have been ignored. They will try to gaslight you via email! They charged me for another month AFTER I received a confirmation email that my subscription was cancelled.
Only put 1 star as you have to put something. Do not join this company. They continue to charge without permission. Cannot contact anyone to talk to about this unless you pay to join another company to investigate. Why should I pay to talk to someone about this issue. This appears to be an unethical company If anyone can advise me how to address the issue of continued charging of account withou permission please let me know. G
We knew nothing about Acorn, yet we recieved an email from Amazon Prime informing us our free trial had been activated. HOW? We haven't even watched Prime in the last two weeks. Took a long time to find the option to cancel (in very small print) in the email. Couldn't find any way to cancel in Amazon or Prime.
Downloaded app which worked once. Then would repeatedly fail at point of selecting a programme. Usually would then freeze. Wasted several hours including on a full reinstall. And trying a different device. Have managed I think to cancel within the 7 day free period. Don't waste your time on this.
this site does not work. Videos play through in seconds. Also keeps saying too many people using account when there is only one person, one device, one attempt. Deserves 0 stars not one. Date of experience is every few days for years!!!! WORST streaming site EVER. CONSTANT problems. No resolution. Overpaid for over a year. No refund. No service. DO NOT USE
I adore Acorn TV. It is the best! Amazing shows, reasonable pricing. Great customer service. So pleased with our subscriptions. Lots of delightful comedies, mysteries, historical stuff, tons of binge worthy fare. Highly recommend! My only regret is that I only discovered them a few years ago through a 1week trial. It's all PBS quality programming, and a lot of times, things form Acorn make their way to PBS. It's a billion times better than any of the other services.
We have enjoyed Acorn in NZ for almost two years because we love British TV especially detective series and they have offered plenty. But recently the quality of the shows we have been getting is poor. I'm fed up with getting foreign crime shows with subtitles which we don't watch and corny documentaries. The new release this week was a dark, American show. We are getting fewer good British crime shows. Very disappointed.
I, too, have problems with freezing, sometimes frequently, despite very high speed (I checked) A bigger issue is that I often get a message that says I am using Acorn on too many devices, which is not true. It seems very likely that there is a defect in their coding, as when I try to re-watch a program, it won't allow me to do it, and moves ahead to the next program. If I try to go back, I get the "too many devices" message, so that's another problem with the coding. Customer support is no help, as this is a coding issue. I have explained to them about when the problems occur, but they have yet to fix it. Like many customer support departments, they take you through a raft of "solutions," none of which solve the problem because the problem is not with my computer. Poor problem-solving there.
Cancelled the subscription and they still took money for the subscription. I’ve been trying to get my refund for over 2 months and they aren’t responding to my emails at all anymore. Acorn TV is a rip off. The service never worked properly in the first place. Now I’m scammed out of the $70 for a cancellation.

“Doesn't deserve any stars.”
If you get on at all, the videos stream through in seconds. Totally impossible to watch. Constantly does beyond video you want to watch to the next in the series with no way to go to the one you want. Doesn't matter though since plays in a couple of seconds instead of the 90 minute episode length. Then it says can't play videos because there are too many people using account, when there is only one person using one device. Tip for consumers:I have asked Acorn TV for help and receive none. “Very sketchy company with poor customer service”
CAUTION: very sketchy company. I signed up in November in response to an ad that said 1 week free trial then $5.99 per month. I signed up watched a show then cancelled later that day. Last week I checked my credit card statement and found out after a week they charged my credit card $74.82. I tried 3 times to contact them using the "contact us" option on their website. I heard nothing. I don't think it is functional. Yesterday I used the chat option. After an hour or so of chatting there was no result. The agent,Jesus, said there was nothing he could do. He said he could offer me a 40% discount but he could not give a refund. I asked if he could transfer me to someone who could. He said he would refer it to billing and the would email me. Today I got two emails from billing. One said they were sorry to lose me and my subscription was canceled. The next email said there are no refunds. Their contention is I signed up for a monthly subscription and the. Also signed up for an annual subscription. When I pointed out that no one would do that Jesus said maybe I "accidentally " subscribed. Still no refund. Please be very careful if you do business with this company. “Lots of App Issues”
Wow, tried to cancel AcornTV because we keep getting a "player error" when using the app on both a new Samsung Smart TV and an updated Amazon Fire TV. We enjoy the shows on Acorn but after 15 errors and the nightmare it takes to temporarily fix it, we decided to cancel (after trying to get help from Acorn's support) only to find out you get no refund if you pay annually. Even though the app is unusable, we get no pro-rata refund of our annual fee. I guess the lesson for all subscribers is to not purchase the Annual Mode. Service Value Returns Quality
“RUN AWAY”
I have an email from Acorn confirming my cancellation, but unbeknownst to me, Acorn started my account up again, and over years took hundreds of dollars from my account. When I threatened to call the police, someone contacted me and agreed I should get the money back, but it never happened. Service
“Don't sign up for this service, big mistake!”
I have been trying to ditch Acorn for 2 years now, they keep sending irrelevant form emails back in light of an explanation and pulling out another years subscription out of my bank and there is nothing I can do about it short of shutting down my bank account! Acorn sent me an email in January this year to say that they have cancelled my subscription but still they keep hauling the money out! I am beyond angry! Do not, I repeat, do not give these clowns your account number, you will live to regret it! PS,, my real rating of this business is minus 5! Tip for consumers:I think you have the gist of it in my review Products used:A service
“Their customer services would be better as deemed nonexistant and ive been charged for the year very”
Diabolic and shambolic service who fleece customers it lets customers down without a support mechanism not to its credit Service Value Quality
“Very Dissapointing”
Exceptionally bad video replay (with continuous stalling) which was not in line with YouTube performance at the same time so no a network issue. Low quality picture definition, and very [poor audio quality (Pie in the Sky), poor selection of shows "above Harlequin" grade. Oldenheim 12 was a great series, pity there are not more like it available on a performing delivery platform. Customer service response very poor. Not a streaming service to be recommended in any way. Service Value Returns Quality
“Steaming pile of dung”
We tried over several days to use a gift certificate for Acorn. The links they gave us were looped so we always came back to the same page. It seems they wanted our credit card info before letting us use the gift certificate. We never did manage to get our connection. Don't bother trying it...we cancelled it all. I would like to give it less than one star. Tip for consumers:no Service Value
“A Nightmare”
Too bad a lot of great shows but constant streaming problems. Constant buffering, all of sudden kicks me out of my account and tells me too many people watching on this account. No one else is watching. If you want to watch a program you have already watched to the end it is almost impossible. Contacting Customer service is a waste of time initial response is they received your message and will get right back to you. They never do. Tip for consumers:poor quality streaming and complete lack of customer service Products used:streaming Service Value Quality
“Requires continual restart”
If you pause or stop viewing or just because, acorn randomly stops the presentation of the show and then you have to restart viewing again. Happens on every Roku I've seen. Shows are good, offering a variety I don't get elsewhere…
“Almost impossible to cancel your subscription.”
The billing service that is used by acorn TV is obviously a scam billing service. You may have to go to your bank and change your debit card account. They even are used to people flooding The zone with requests and they won't get back to you. They'll just ask you why you want to cancel. Right now I'm looking for the president of acorn TV and I'm going to start emailing his office. Tip for consumers:Because it's something with as high profile as acorn TV you wouldn't think that they would use a scam billing service. Amazon has them as part of their package and they advertise on YouTube for trial accounts. Both Amazon and YouTube need to be alerted that their reputations are being tainted by using this billing service Products used:Trial subscription for 7 days. Have been unable to cancel within the 7-Day time period. Look at the other reviews for acorn TV and you'll see everyone is having this problem. They are a scam billing service Service Returns
“Few choices. Continued charging my card after cancellation”
We cancelled our subscription on Nov 11 and got a confirmation. On Dec. 1st they charged our credit card. So far I have made 3 requests to have the erroneous charge reversed - NO RESPONSE. If not resolved by Dec 8, I will dispute the charge as fraudulent. Tip for consumers:There are just too many other good streaming sites. I wish they were better, I like competition to keep the prices down, but Acorn TV was not providing much content that was interesting for us. After cancellation, they charged our credit card, and we get no response from "customer service". Recommendation - Stay away. Products used:We used Acorn TV for about two months. Decided there wasn't much content on it that interested us, and decided to cancel. Service Value
“Loved doc martin, otherwise, meh”
Manhunt also was good, but got too "R" for us sometimes, but we watched to the end. George Gently was good. We watched Madam Blanc which was cute until the woke sexuality indoctrination Episode 4, then we shut it off. Similar with Larkins which was ok at first, until I realized that it glorified a criminal family who didn't pay taxes, and used their daughter sexually to corrupt male tax collectors. More woke, society-destroying garbage. Heartguy, we didn't bother as it's about a egomaniacal doctor's drug and sex life. We're shutting down tv more every day since there are few morally decent and creative writers. Just vulgarity and easily dicerned "plots" throughout all tv broadcasting today. It's basically syonymous with the moral corruption of society. Need to get back to God and decency. Service Value Quality
“Customer Service is non existing”
I activated the service 4-9-2020 for the 1 month trail to see if we liked. Gave credit card info, contacted them per their method as to how to do an annual service if we decide to keep and got NO RESPONSE? Then got charged for a month usage on 4-16-2020. Resent another ticket (EMAIL) today 4-24-2020 asking why I did not get a prior response, was charged for a month and not directed how to do an annual purchased fee if we decided to keep. Time will tell if they read this review or if customer service will return from their hide out?
“Poor quality viewing and customer service”
Several shows have horrible quality picture. Customer service is non-existent. I contacted them several times with programming questions and after many weeks got an email stating that hopefully my problem was resolved by then, and if not, to open another ticket! They charge me different amounts each month. I was finally able to get them on Facebook Messenger but they refused to answer my question about being charged inaccurate amounts. Cancelling my subscription. Too much good competition from which to choose. Service Value Shipping
“Acorn TV's service is terrible”
A couple of months ago I took out an annual subscription to Acorn. I find I can't watch it on either my TV or via my Apple TV. I tried to contact Acorn for either a refund or help. They don't refund. Their service is hopeless - eg they gave me an American phone number to contact: I can't access that number from Australia. Their replies to my emails take days to arrive. I am very disappointed - what a waste of money. Products used:None Service
“Good selection but poor execution”
I watch on a PC using a Browser and this is the issue. 1) You can't add or remove items into/from your watch list. 2) What you watch doesn't show up in your Recently Watched list. 3) Previously view episodes in a series are not underlined so you need to keep track yourself. 4) They only stream up to 560p. 5) They buffer constantly. (not a network issue) In my own testing Safari Browser works the best as it's very efficient. Firefox is slow but can work ok but Chrome, what Acorntv recommends is the worst. Acorntv knows all of this, I have spoken with then on the phone yet they won't fix any of it. They prefer you use their app or go through Prime Video and pay monthly. They make more money that way. There's no incentive to go through a browser and pay yearly for them. I signed for year which ends next January … I won't renew. BritBox is a better choice.
“Too many technical issues”
Missing episodes (Episode 1 not available at this time, why don't you watch Episode 2 and figure it out on your own). CC constantly messed up, displaying CC from previous episodes. Customer service sends automatic emails every 48 hours asking the customer if their problem was solved without actually checking that it was, therefore using us, the paying customers, as free testing engines.
“COMMERCIALS?”
I really resent paying for commercial free streaming and then having to watch commercials that break in mid sentence in the show.
“Too blurry”
Love the shows, hate the blurry pictures. Lacking the crispness makes for an unpleasant viewing experience. With all the other choices out there, if they don't improve I'll canx.
“Dishonest company”
Like many other reviewers, I have had terrible service from Acorn. They continued to bill my credit card for five months after I cancelled. I have had no responses from their customer service department, except one email that said "we hope your issue has been resolved". WHAT? I have all the documentation and hopefully will be able to get the charges reversed through my bank. I am scratching my head wondering if the company is deliberately fraudulent, or if they just have really bad administrative systems. Considering that the mistakes are always in their favour, I sadly have to conclude that it's the former. I wish I had checked out reviews before subscribing. Service Value Quality
“Does Not Deliver What's Advertised”
We got a 30 day trial via Amazon Prime and enjoyed watching several series start to finish. We were surprised that some episodes were not available to us, but thought that was because it was a trial. We started paying monthly, but discovered that many shows are not available to us "at this time". I don't know why Acorn would list shows on their guide, but not allow us access! We have now unsubscribed, and strongly recommend to anyone who asks to avoid Acorn TV.
“Loved it until last app update”
This new version of the app won't let me cast to the TV anymore. Been waiting for two days to hear from the help desk. Tried reinstalling, no joy. It would be a good idea to have help staff available when rolling out a major app update. So, three stars for the catalog and minus two for failure to beta test app updates
“Total con!”
I signed up for this as I wanted to watch A Place to Call Home. I'd watched seasons 1-2 on Amazon Prime and signed up to acorn as it offered the whole series. Watched season 3 and then... you have to pay to watch the rest on top of your subscription. Toal rip off. Lousy customer experience - and the picture quality was poor. Shame on you! Top 5 Effective Ways To Spot a Scam Website [VIDEO]
There are many types of fake sites in the online world. We have some good news. Watch the video below to see the 5 effective ways you can spot a fraudulent website in 2024:
How To Remove Your Information From the Internet
Whether you like it or not, unfortunately, the Internet has all your personal information stored. How did that happen? Every time you visit a simple site and accept cookies, consent to their forms, or download an app, unscrupulous data brokers collect not just your phone number, name, AND address. They also sell this to third parties, which creates a $1 billion industry a year. Your collected personal data is used by buyers to send you never-ending spam emails, targeted ads, and, of course, telemarketing calls. Crooks use all your data without remorse.
We can help. Many people have asked us about how to remove your personal information from the Internet. If you want your data deleted entirely from the online world, contact our official partners at Incogni immediately. This legitimate data privacy tool works on your behalf to officially require a ton of online brokers to remove your data.
Our staff verifies that this service works and is trustworthy. For robust, essential protection, their Standard plan is a steal at just $8.29 for individuals, and you can extend that crucial peace of mind to your entire household with the Family plan (up to 5 users) for only $16.49. They also introduced the Unlimited plan starting from $14.99 that covers not only automatic data removals, but also unlimited custom removals available right away upon purchasing the Unlimited plan. It allows users to submit websites not yet covered by Incogni and get their data removed from there, too. They also offer a free exposure scanner that will give you an insight into what data of yours is exposed and where.

How To Stop Third Parties From Tracking Your Devices
The second most powerful fraud prevention tool you should consider is Surfshark. Here is why you should get it now, as the first 5 months are free:

Are You the Owner of acorn.tv?
If you own acorn.tv, we’d love to hear from you. If you'd like to challenge the trust score we’ve assigned, we’re happy to take a closer look. However, please be prepared to provide solid proof of your business's legitimacy. Introduce yourself with your name (not just "Admin").
When domain owners contact us to dispute their trust score, we kindly ask for the following:
* Business documentation that verifies your legitimacy (e.g., certificate of incorporation, business registration, or official records with the site or business name).
* Your personal LinkedIn profile and the business's social media accounts (e.g., Facebook).
* If available, proof of satisfied customers (e.g., screenshots, not just testimonials on your website), evidence of inventory, or records of handling order cancellations properly.
We’re more than willing to update your review based on the evidence you provide—the more proof, the higher your trust score. Please note, however, that we cannot verify non-operational websites or those redirected to other URLs. Additionally, we do not verify websites involved in high-risk financial services, gambling, adult content, or illegal activities.
