Notice About Your Instagram Scam Video
You receive an email that seems very legitimate. It informs that your account will be suspended because you “violated the copyright laws”. It also mentions that your account will be deleted in 24 hours. “If you think we made a mistake please verify to secure your account”.
Letting alone the grammar mistakes within the message, the email provides a link marked with “Review complaint” or “Verify account”. If you click on it, you will get to a phishing page that offers another button where you can “appeal the decision”. It will then ask you to provide your Instagram credentials, email, and password. That’s where the scam occurs. Scammers have access to your account and can do whatever they want with it, including changing your password so you’re locked out!
To make the whole trick look more legitimate, cyber crooks will show a note saying “We’ll review your feedback”. If you click on that as well, you will be taken to the official Instagram websites.
In many cases, scammers come back after the victim and ask for a ransom to give back their credentials.
Instagram Copyright Infringement Scam: How To Avoid
Similar to the Facebook Violation of Terms Scam, this one uses fear against the users so they can act fast without verifying if is a real email or not. If you look at the domain name that is listed when you open the links you may see variations of the word ‘Instagram”, such as www.theinstagram.com or www.instragam.com.
