You may still receive calls from numbers that look a lot like yours, but criminals have taken it a step further this week. The newest trap is now a call that comes from your own number! How does the scam work?

The trick starts with a call placed to your phone, displaying your own phone number. Upon picking up, the person at the other end recommends himself as being a representative of your the phone service company. “We have important news to share, for your own safety”, he might say. “Your account has been hacked and we’re trying to fix it as we speak.”, the scammer adds.
As many people freak out since they saw their own number being on display, they absentmindedly provide their social insurance number and telephone account number to the crooks.
How To Stop Spoofing Calls/ How To Stop Getting Calls From Unknown Numbers
There are a couple of mobile apps that do a pretty good job at stopping spoofed calls. Go to the AppStore or GooglePlay Marketplace and download Mr. Number (here are the iPhone and Android apps) and TrueCaller (iPhone and Android). You’ll be happy you did it.

If more people would report the numbers as well it would help. I use to be able to type in a number that was from scammer or robo / bad caller and Large list showed up. Not any more. Nothing shows up now. Either precious scammers got this stopped or people got lazy and stopped reporting numbers.
