How the scam works:
(with video below) You might come across a campaign –online or in stores as donation boxes– that’s fundraising money to pay for a baby’s funeral. This is a real tear-jerker. There’s a picture of the baby and you really feel upset.
Thousands of dollars get into the hands of scammers pulling tricks like this one, by regularly emptying the donation jars or setting up an account. Needless to say, the pictures of the kids are stolen from the Internet.

If you donate money, always make sure that you check the final destination of your funds. There is no shame in that. There are a lot of nasty people out there.

In cases where a funeral is being paid for with donations, you should be able to make your donation directly through the funeral home that is handling the arrangements. If that information isn’t listed on the donation bucket, ask for it. If it cannot be provided, that’s a good sign something isn’t kosher.
It works the same with donation buckets for sick children, children who need operations, and animals that need care or rescue. If there is not information listed for a hospital, healthcare provider, or animal rescue group where you can make a direct donation, then it’s likely to be a scam.
