How the scam works:
If you are a Canadian truck driver working often in the US, one day you might get approached by a “consultant” who tells you they can help you reclaim taxes paid on gas bought in the United States. It sounds worthwhile and they assure you it's a no-risk activity, as they get commissions only from rebates.
Once you agree, what they actually do is make a fraudulent claim to the IRS using a refund scheme intended for farmers. Because the IRS pays first and checks later, the so-called “consultants” will have already received their commission, while the truckers are ordered to pay the whole amount.
How to avoid:
There is no such refund. Don't fall for it.
