You get an email or phone call from somebody claiming to be from your credit card company or a credit union in your city. The person at the other end of the line tells you about their newest promotion: a new credit card that’s being released, with a $20,000 limit.
Because it’s a promotional edition and they want you to sign up, you will get a free laptop (or iPhone 8, Android, iPad, etc.) with it. After a great pitch, the operator tells you that to receive all the benefits there is a one-time $250 fee.
Unfortunately, several people still fall for this scam, as they take into consideration the value of the laptop balancing the $250 fee.
