The key is to reward their clients with points, cash or any other kind of advantages which would make the consumers sign up for a new card. However, be careful of a scam making its rounds this week, which is a new and improved version of an older one happening last year. How does the scam work?

You get an email or phone call from somebody claiming to be from your credit card company or a credit union in your city. The person at the other end of the line tells you about their newest promotion: a new credit card that's being released, with a $20,000 limit.

Because it's a promotional edition and they want you to sign up, you will get a free laptop (or iPhone 8, Android, iPad, etc.) with it. After a great pitch, the operator tells you that to receive all the benefits there is a one-time $250 fee.

Unfortunately, several people still fall for this scam, as they take into consideration the value of the laptop balancing the $250 fee.
