Electronics for Sale – White Van Scam: How It Works
(with video below) It's amazing how this scam continues to happen day by day. Let's say you are in a parking lot and are just getting out of your vehicle when a white van pulls up next to you. Inside are a couple of young guys in uniforms who seem to be in a hurry. They tell you they have a high-end TV and other expensive equipment (headphones, wireless surround system speakers, smartphones, blu-Ray players, projectors, etc) that they need to get rid of. They say somebody made a mistake on an order at their big store and they ended up with the extra equipment. How does the scam work?

They talk so fast you don't have time to think, but all you know is you want that TV or set of speakers. You haggle like you've never haggled before, eventually talking them down from $1500 to $250.
You think it's a great deal (even if it is hot merchandise) so you hand over the cash and they go on their merry way. You take the TV home, plug it in and turn it on. That's when your smile starts to fade. Turns out the products are of extremely low quality.
Scammers often obtain them for $30-$40 from a local distributor or return centre. Now you're stuck with a faulty television and you have to explain the lost money to your wife.

This one's simple – never buy anything from a parking lot, especially electronics. You can find some great deals online (here are some best-rated, real HDTVs, headphones or surround sound home theatre systems), but if you do get a great deal in a parking lot, it's probably stolen – and you could get in trouble or have the goods repossessed.

It happened to me today on 2/24/14 in freeport ny at 12:00pm in a parking lot. They told me The warehouse miscounted with an extra 2, 40inch flat screen tv and they have to go to New Jersey for delivery. They were in a rush and they were selling it for $200 each. They open the top of the box to show me they are brand new so I fell for it. He gave his phone number and name telling me to call him for other things they get. He put the two boxes in my car and happily left with my rent money!!! It surely did taught me a lesson!!
This Actually happened to me. I was approached in a parking lot and told the same story that they over bought goods. It was a bunch of stereo equipment. I said no and they continued to persist lowering the prove each time. Luckily I had the since to walk away and say no thank you. However recently I did get scammed by a fake online electronic company. They even had a fake shipping site. I lost 500.00 dollars to that one. Be very very careful online who you deal with. It’s a scary world we live in now days. .
