How Premium Rate Numbers Work Video

It is very similar to the Mauritania Phone CallsCredit Car Lower Rate, Customer Appreciation Trap, or One-Ring Call scams also going around these days.

The phone rings once, or until the victim picks up. At that moment, the call ends. What scammers want are the victims to call back or text, which leads to a very hefty charge on their phone bill.

Criminals even called the Scam Detector phone, twice in two days (see image above), using numbers such as (676) 848-9389 or (676) 848-9334. They even rang USA Today reporter John Borja, from the number (676) 848-9003.

How To Avoid The Tonga Call Scam:

It’s easy. Don’t answer or call back numbers you don’t know. If someone is trying to reach you, they will leave a message. As a measure of precaution, feel free to keep updated with the newest reports by checking the Better Business Bureau‘s website regularly.
