therealreal.com Review
The Scam Detector website Validator gives therealreal.com one of the higher trust scores on the platform: 85.2. It signals that the business is best defined by the following tags: Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure.. We are confident about our score as we also partner with other high-tech, fraud-prevention companies that found the same results. So, why this score? We came up with the 85.2 score based on 53 aggregated factors relevant to therealreal.com's industry. The algorithm detected little high-risk activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors, as noted in the Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure. tags above. Long story short, we deem this a secure website. But let's explain in more detail.
Explaining Our Analytical Approach
We've displayed some important information within the Company Details section above, each deserving more explanation:
- Proximity to Suspicious Websites
- Threat Profile
- Phishing Profile
- Malware Score
- Spam Score
- Domain Blacklist Status
- HTTPS connection
- Domain Creation Date
While some are self-explanatory concerning therealreal.com, let's look closer at the remaining ones.
Proximity to Potentially Harmful Websites
This metric gauges the connection, scored on a scale of 1 to 100, between therealreal.com and websites marked as suspicious. Elevated scores point to a stronger link with these questionable online destinations. It's worth noting that website owners might not always be aware of their site's proximity to these dubious platforms or servers. However, a "Proximity to Suspicious Websites" score surpassing 80 strongly indicates a high-risk website, while a score below 30 signifies a less-threatening site.
Risk Factors: Threat, Phishing, Malware, and Spam
These indicators reveal the vulnerabilities and elements embedded within the HTML code of therealreal.com. They become especially pertinent if the website has received reports from internet users who've encountered unsolicited emails, ads, or messages related to the site. In the context of therealreal.com, our investigation continues working to pinpoint the specific category, but we welcome your insights in the comments below. A high Malware score generally implies the presence of suspicious code that might be unknowingly disseminated. Conversely, a high Spam score hints at a possibly spam-ridden email address associated with the business. Scores under 30 in both categories are reassuring, but any score surpassing this threshold should raise concerns. therealreal.com is an authentic, safe website, given all the risk factors and data numbers analyzed in this in-depth review. Share your experience in the comments.
Domain Blacklisting Status
This term indicates whether therealreal.com has landed on any online directories' blacklists and earned a suspicious tag.
Assessing HTTPS Connectivity
This section provides insight into whether therealreal.com boasts an 's' at the end of the 'HTTP' protocol listed in your browser's address bar. If the tab displays in green, consider it a positive sign.
Safe Check
We want our trust scores and reviews to be as accurate as possible so that you can protect yourself from online fraud. Our algorithm aggregates factors that efficiently analyze a company's website, in this case, therealreal.com.

My first time order with RealReal. Boots (Loeffler Randall - brown leather OTK) are beautiful ! No problems regarding any aspects of this purchase. The shipping was prompt. The packaging was fabulous. The sale price was too good to be ignored ! Thanks again !
I must say I was so.pleased with my recent purchase that im looking to make a 2nd purchase!!! The ratings such as the condition of the items do the items no justice,I say that to say my Fendi Bucket Bag is in excellent condition & I can't wait to use it!!!!!! Tracking was provided & the delivery came as expected!!! I was referred by Influencer Monroe Steele during one of her vlogs that i watched,as she highly recommended your company!!! Monroe Steele also had an item on hold as she considers making a purchase!!!
There were so many lovely products to choose from and lots of details. Once they arrived, I must say that the items were described accurately on the website (or ended up better than expected) so I was very pleased with my purchases. I feel like I got the items for an excellent price and I am looking forward to shopping here more.
I received the order quickly. The shoes are in good condition, look exactly like in the photo. The price is fair. The size is a little bigger than I expected. The shoe sizes on the website are not clear. I couldn't figure out if the sizes indicated are European or American. In any case, satisfied with the experience and the possibility to buy pre loved top brands.
If you buy something it's great BUT if you sell it's crazy! The length of time to get things listed and then the discounts just days after posted! Sometimes they accept your things and other times the same designers are rejected. All that being said, I think it's a good place to sell if you don't expect huge dollars in return. They do pay fairly quickly. Not everyone has "Vintage Chanel"
Less about the customer and more about improving the company’s margins. Having been a customer for more than 10 years, the % you receive on consigned items continuing to decline (from a set % across the board to a sliding scale with typical items people would consign being next to nothing) and the site credit offer designed to ensure most people don’t use them (expirations set at 5 days and not activated by when you consign. Seems like a month or so after.) and lastly the ratings given on goods are really inconsistent. I bought a handbag last week that was deemed very good and it should have been rated good (leather had a smell, more wear on the strap which was not captured). I had bought other items that were very good and they were accurately represented.
I purchased an Hermés bracelet described as excellent condition and it is! It’s beautiful, came in an orange Hermés box in a pouch. I couldn’t be more pleased.
I’ve received another order that is damaged and missing pieces. A gorgeous Judith Leiber handbag that in pics showed all the cabochons intact arrived with one missing. It’s a large cabochon, faceted and rectangular so very hard to replace. Usually I just get items that are damaged from improper packaging. So disappointing and I feel sorry for the person who consigned it with them. Very expensive bag, ruined.
I’ve gotten some great finds but I’ve also received fakes twice, and when I returned them with a bullet point list of reasons why I could tell they were fake, they were just put back up for sale again. I’ve also received items listed as the wrong designer, and items in worse condition than their description. I was charged shipping both ways for all of the above cases.
I have bought many items at the RealReal and I must say I’ve been really happy. really good customer service. Whenever I have any issues they are always very curtious and try to resolve them. The only thing I wish is that the shipping was free or cheaper. I would order more frequently.
Great purchase experience. Seller shipped the item quickly, boots were in great condition and with new customer discount, I got a great price on an item I wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise.
You cannot depend on RR to accurately rate your item correctly and also they mispriced my item unfavorably to me but very favorable to the purchaser. Mispriced bag was sold within a week because the price was TOO LOW!!! I will never use them again. They have inexperienced staff who are timid at best to price and rate items. This bag was in PRISTINE condition (used maybe twice) with NO visible flaws and they rated it as "very good." I'll never use them again for this specific reason.
I had two transactions with TRR in one week, a purchase and a sale. Both were great! I love my new bag, it looks even better than it did online and shipped quickly and safely. The associate I worked with on the sale was diligent and helpful and never pushy. She made it easy for me to part with a bag I liked and I look forward to seeing what comes next!
Online website is easy to navigate and so many items to choose from. I love the filter options while shopping which makes it easy to find items I am looking for. I've bought many jewelries and purses. Shipping has been smooth and secured. It has been easy to sell my pre-loved items on The Real Real too.
The sales rep Sara texted me to see if I had anything to sell, which reminded me I did! She came over, went through my clothes, was so sweet, very professional & explained everything to me. It was a lovely experience.
A quick confirmation from my issue from Lauren stating she would follow.Lauren quickly understood the issue and resolved beyond my expectations!Thank you Lauren & Real*2
Bought a cashmere sweater based on the condition report stated excellent. However, the received article was full of holes and pills. It did not in line with the real real claim that they have specialists to check each item that meets the seller's claim. Although they have return policy, but they will still charge processing fee plus I got to pay the return shipping. As I am an international buyer, it is not feasible to return the item. Hence, I accepted the $25 usd partial refund which I still lost $165 as the sweater was too bad to wear outdoor. Future potential buyers should pay extra attention on this issue!
Product is in excellent condition as described on the website. Order was well packed, and fast shipping. Great buying experience with the Realreal!
I had been eyeing a pair of pants for 3 years lol they were on TRR for 50% less than on every other site and I couldn’t resist! Shipping was fast. My pants were packaged so well and were in PERFECT condition… and y’all, when i say they are just perfect!!!!! I can’t wait to wear them this weekend.
Product was in good condition and as described, but the packaging was flimsy/ripped upon arrival. Luckily the product wasn’t damaged but I expected better packaging from a luxury resale company.

“Awful experience”
Awful company for consignors. They take advantage by pricing the items very low and almost immediately discounting them. Instead of the RealReal getting a commission as mediators, they give a commission to the seller. When I saw how much they discounted (and immediately sold) my item, I asked them to return the rest. They charge $15 per item to return them. Additionally, they keep $10 off the monthly check as a "check by mail fee". Their model is not working and the customers are punished for it. Stay away! “Random disgusting items found inside the bag”
I don't know who works for them and never took the 2 min extra to verified the stuff inside the bag. I found disgusting fake nails and lashes...beauty makeup Sponge used. I don't get it. Like they not suposed to clean it before RESALING them? 🤮 I understand it's reused items but wtf. There's a minimum. BIG disappointment Value Quality
“Don't consign with the TRR. I wish I hadn't”
When they are trying to get your items, they promise transparency in pricing and an opportunity to dispute the pricing. That is a lie. By the time you know what price they've assigned (which is ridiculously low), it's gone. Never again.
“Disgusted”
I consigned approximately $1800 of 'the great clothing all items worn maybe once or twice. They sold 8 of my items I received a total of $30! They should be prosecuted!
“DO NOT SELL ON THE REAL REAL”
DO NOT USE THE TO SELL YOUR ITEMS! First, I shipped 16 items, they could only find 12 until in contacted them repeatedly. They finally found the other items. Of the 16,10 were accepted for sale and 6 were supposed to be sent back to me. They have me one tracking number for the 6 items. The tracking number only had 2 of the 6 items and they cannot locate the other 4. So I am still missing 4 from that shipment. Next, they sold a $180 pair of shoes for $68 and I only made $10. Unacceptable! I was told I'd get to approve the prices. So now I've asked them to return all the rest of my items. They wanted to change me $135 to get my items back, but since I had proof that they told me I could get my items back if I didn't approve of their prices they waived the $135, but told me it would take 30 days to get my $5000 worth of items back. I DO NOT TRUST THEM, they are thieves. If you are a buyer, you are safe because the items are real. Tip for consumers:Do not sell with them! They steal your items. Products used:I was selling on this site not buying. My one time buying they sent me the wrong shoes and had to refund my money. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“They are CROOKS!”
Do not use them, they are total crooks! I cannot believe the price they sold my stuff at, and did not ask me they just sold it. I was told I could get like 120 for something, I got 35? WTF? Tip for consumers:dont use this site- they are crooks! Products used:I sold something- DONT DO IT! They are Crooks! Service Value Shipping Quality
“Forget about buying on Realreal”
Do not buy Dior totes on Realreal. A Dior Canvas tote may have discoloration or glue issue with 5 years warranty. However, as RealReal doesn't provide receipt, your right to free exchange is void. Beware!
“BE AWARE - charging more than retail”
I'm giving a one-star review based on a recent experience I had, which The RealReal should openly disclose to their customers. BE AWARE they will over price certain items, even if it's currently available on the designer/company website. I reached out to them regarding a black Jenni Kayne sweater that was marked as "very good" condition (i.e., not new, signs of wear, but no major damage). After I purchased it, I realized the same sweater was available online for $195 and TRR was charging $225….for a used "very good" version of it. I thought maybe it was an error and they estimated the retail price incorrectly. Turns out they are aware they over priced it and not willing to come down on the cost. This is understandable for a rare collectors item, but a used sweater that is currently available online and doesn't even have the tags on? That's just blatantly scamming your customers and hoping they don't notice. The TRR employee I was working with was Mus and he/she spoke like a robot - first they said there's nothing they can do, then offered $25 off, then $50, then sent me a return slip so they can sell it to someone else for $225. Really disappointing to learn that I can't trust their pricing, and they're basically scalping high street brands. I love shopping with them, and you can find a good deal, but on the other end, they're also stealing. F them for that. If you're advertising consignment prices, don't price higher than retail ESPECIALLY when it's available still. FYI this is also the case for readily available Khaite belts (and I'm sure many other things). Tip for consumers:They scam you on some items and charge higher than retail, even when it’s still available at the original store, and aren’t willing to re-evaluate it. Products used:Sweater Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Do not consign with TRR!”
I had a pair of good condition Gucci shoes. I paid 500$ for them. They gave me a sell price of 350$. I was willing to take the loss and sent them in for consignment. They sold my shoes at 105$ and paid me 30% which was not agreed upon. I got 31.50$ on a 500$ pair of authentic shoes. Never again! Service Value
“A Real Loss”
I sent an item to the company the RealReal to be sold at an agreed price. They lowered the price to a fraction of what I paid (the item was brand new), and thus lowered my commission to a fraction of the price, without notifying me. I requested for the company to return my item and they declined my request. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Therealreal is a scam”
Therealreal is a scam. They take high-value items for consignment and list them at ridiculously low prices, allowing their internal employees to steal them from online clients' carts or even after payments have been made. They cancel transactions and resale the items to their friends, who then post them on eBay for a profit. Please do not consign with this company; you will receive almost nothing for your high-value stuff. The company has no control over their employees, so employees do whatever they want, including defrauding their customers and running a side business for themselves Service Value Shipping Returns
“Buyer & Seller since 2015”
I have been a big seller and buyer on The Real Real since the beginning of the company in 2015! I have made about $400,000 selling pieces that I was not going to wear again. Also, I am a buyer of mostly "pristine" and "excellent" items on consignment. There are so many people who buy things and not wear/use them at all, and sell them new in the box with tags!
“Fake worthless items!”
Don't buy from this scam site you're better off going elsewhere where u can get a refund and especially don't buy if it's brand new Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Somewhat satisfied”
I like a deal, and the RR provides them. However, the honest inspection and communications of imperfections, stains and condition of items is rarely accurate. There has never been a time my order has been received without undisclosed stains, holes in sweaters or some flaw. If I report it there is no monetary compensation provided to assist in repairs it's just deemed not worth it and I have to go through the hassle of returning it. If I ran my business like this I would be shut down.
“Unethical, uncaring, poor business practices”
I purchased a beautiful pair of "final sale" new Ferragamo shoes online (not from TRR). When I received them, I couldn't wear them (bad bunions!) so I brought them to TRR. They were brand new $800 shoes. TRR took them, put them on their website for $115 (!) with the condition marked "very good." They were brand new! No one told me of the sale price or if I'd like the shoes returned to me because of the outrageously low pricing. Of course, they were sold immediately. My sale portion was $35 (again,!) less $10 to cut a check. I never asked for a check and it's a good thing I didn't because I never received any money. The check is in the mail?! Ha. I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THIS OUTRAGEOUS, UNETHICAL COMPANY AGAIN. Service Value
“Depends on what you buy”
Let me start by saying I've purchased over $10k in items from the site. Over 1/2 is a loss. The pictures are general, descriptions are general, and sizing is based on manufacturing. That being said, was it manufactured in the 90's or 2022. Has it been washed and shrunk? Modified? Also, was it in grandmas musty basement? Men's/ women's seems to be an issue as well. Small tears not indicated. The time it takes to reach staff is weeks.
“Returns a bit pricey”
Thought, I'm very satisfied of the fast shipping, and good deals offers by the company,, I'm not feeling the same when it comes to the returns. It seems like not just the returning fee, around $16, is deducted but also the percentage that was given when I purchased them. Other than that, I'm happy being TRR customer.
“Free shipping would encourage me to make more purchases”
Free shipping would absolutely encourage me to make more purchases. Second. I would like to be able to sort by "percent off". Also, it would be nice to define my search by type of material. Such as 100%cotton.
“Yeezies”
Experience was good, the sneakers came individually wrapped in paper and were in better condition than the picture portrayed
“Unmatched Quality and fresh take on sizing”
Through browsing your selection, I know there's highly skilled staff selecting the most bougie pieces for our shopping experience. Thank you. I discover new high quality brands through The RealReal. I think there's an opportunity to partner with other brands by reaching out to boutiques, and offering to sell hard to sell pieces on the site at MSRP, or at a slight discount. In the past, I've purchased things on RealReal, went to the brand site, and bought multiple pieces there because I felt comfortable with their sizing. Because the site offers sizing in inches, I've never had to return a piece. I wish there was an option to filter pieces based on inches. That's the main reason I choose The RealReal when I buy online. There's potential for the company to gain a huge following because of this unique feature that brings standardization of sizing across different brands. But it comes at a cost because it does take more manpower to measure each piece. I feel the benefits outweigh the costs because no other site offers this service.
“Brilliant”
Always on time, user friendly website design, efficient, faultless - very happy customer.
“XCover insurance and return Support”
I bought the return insurance, and immediately after receiving purse, and determine that it was too smalll for my needs, let XCover/TRR know I wanted to return purse. I received an email about a week later telling me they turned responsibility for TRR returns under XCove to Doddle and Doddle would contact me. I heard NOTHING, nor received any communication/email from Doddle. I contacted XCover numerous times that I had not heard anything from Doddle. Finally, while out of town, I contacted XCover again about lack of response from Doddle. Shortly thereafter I received an email with a USPS return label. I responded reminding them I was out of town and not able to get in mail until I return home on Saturday afternoon. I mailed the return on Monday, 26 August. The organization should have received the return by now. I'm not sure this most recent change in TRR return operations with XCover is a good deal for the consumer/ buyer of TRR merchandise, and ultimately for TRR. You're making it too hard to invest in a return option with confidence your return will be honored.
“Experience With The RealReal”
Excellent service. I love yo buy things, excellent quality and great stuff.
“Looks Great!”
The two items look great; however, they were a gift and my daughter has need opened them yet.
“The Real Fake”
They have grown to the point were authenticity is no longer true. And forget about customer service. The telephone line doesn't answer. Emails get you nowhere as do Chats. I've been waiting a month for a refund on an obvious fake and still haven't received anything. The frustration in repeatedly reaching out through email and chat only to get nowhere is not worth it. Save your tile and money. Tip for consumers:They try to charge $12.95 shipping for returning an item. However, if it is not as described the consumer should not have to pay any of the shipping costs, Receiving or Returning, That $25.90 out of pocket for FAKE merchandise. There are many types of fake sites in the online world. We have some good news. Watch the video below to see the 5 effective ways you can spot a fraudulent website in 2024:
How To Remove Your Information From the Internet
Whether you like it or not, unfortunately, the Internet has all your personal information stored. How did that happen? Every time you visit a simple site and accept cookies, consent to their forms, or download an app, unscrupulous data brokers collect not just your phone number, name, AND address. They also sell this to third parties, which creates a $1 billion industry a year. Your collected personal data is used by buyers to send you never-ending spam emails, targeted ads, and, of course, telemarketing calls. Crooks use all your data without remorse.
We can help. Many people have asked us about how to remove your personal information from the Internet. If you want your data deleted entirely from the online world, contact our official partners at Incogni immediately. This legitimate data privacy tool works on your behalf to officially require a ton of online brokers to remove your data.
