shopify.com Review
The Scam Detector website Validator gives shopify.com one of the higher trust scores on the platform: 87.5. It signals that the business is best defined by the following tags: Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure.. We are confident about our score as we also partner with other high-tech, fraud-prevention companies that found the same results. So, why this score? We came up with the 87.5 score based on 53 aggregated factors relevant to shopify.com's industry. The algorithm detected little high-risk activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors, as noted in the Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure. tags above. Long story short, we deem this a secure website. But let's explain in more detail.
Explaining Our Analytical Approach
We've displayed some important information within the Company Details section above, each deserving more explanation:
- Proximity to Suspicious Websites
- Threat Profile
- Phishing Profile
- Malware Score
- Spam Score
- Domain Blacklist Status
- HTTPS connection
- Domain Creation Date
While some are self-explanatory concerning shopify.com, let's look closer at the remaining ones.
Proximity to Potentially Harmful Websites
This metric gauges the connection, scored on a scale of 1 to 100, between shopify.com and websites marked as suspicious. Elevated scores point to a stronger link with these questionable online destinations. It's worth noting that website owners might not always be aware of their site's proximity to these dubious platforms or servers. However, a "Proximity to Suspicious Websites" score surpassing 80 strongly indicates a high-risk website, while a score below 30 signifies a less-threatening site.
Risk Factors: Threat, Phishing, Malware, and Spam
These indicators reveal the vulnerabilities and elements embedded within the HTML code of shopify.com. They become especially pertinent if the website has received reports from internet users who've encountered unsolicited emails, ads, or messages related to the site. In the context of shopify.com, our investigation continues working to pinpoint the specific category, but we welcome your insights in the comments below. A high Malware score generally implies the presence of suspicious code that might be unknowingly disseminated. Conversely, a high Spam score hints at a possibly spam-ridden email address associated with the business. Scores under 30 in both categories are reassuring, but any score surpassing this threshold should raise concerns. shopify.com is an authentic, safe website, given all the risk factors and data numbers analyzed in this in-depth review. Share your experience in the comments.
Domain Blacklisting Status
This term indicates whether shopify.com has landed on any online directories' blacklists and earned a suspicious tag.
Assessing HTTPS Connectivity
This section provides insight into whether shopify.com boasts an 's' at the end of the 'HTTP' protocol listed in your browser's address bar. If the tab displays in green, consider it a positive sign.
Safe Check
We want our trust scores and reviews to be as accurate as possible so that you can protect yourself from online fraud. Our algorithm aggregates factors that efficiently analyze a company's website, in this case, shopify.com.

Signed up for a trial. Ran mobile POS transactions through. Company cancelled my account without any warning or follow-up. Payments were never sent for the transactions. Contacted customer service multiple times over two weeks. I keep being told a team is "working on it". Criminal.
If you care about your brand and customer service DO NOT USE shopify! They don't have great customer service and do not care if you do. Shopify, first put my payment account on holds two pay periods in a row. 1st it was because of my banking information and 2nd they said that I am not allow to use their payment systems anymore and that they will be holding funds for 120 day. First of all, I dropship, I couldn't place orders until they released funds this cause charge backs. They say it was because of fraudulent orders, but it was because customers had to wait for their stuff. The same day that they said that the payouts were on hold, I guess they didn't like my sassy emails and shut down my store without warning or adequate explanation. IF there were fraudulent orders coming through why would you act like I was the fraudster (makes no sense) when a customer has to wait 5-7 days for their money to clear and then what ever shipping times allowed then yeah you are going to get charge backs. I just need them to refund my customers open orders. I smell a class action law suit!
#SHOPIFYFAILSHOPIFY CUSTOMER SERVICE IS GARBAGE. I have been trying since Monday to transfer the ownership of a store I built for a client. This store I built is within my Shopify organization. The name of the store is "American Great Store". I DO NOT want to transfer ANY of my other stores. I have reached out and have spoken to a half dozen Shopify personnel, none of which can help me. The error message I get is: "You have an active Balance account. To transfer ownership, please transfer out any funds in Balance and contact Shopify Support to transfer ownership." THIS IS A NEW STORE. THERE ARE NO NEW ORDERS. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BALANCE. Not only that, every response I get from Shopify is different or they are confused on the task. This would and should be the EASIEST task for Shopify but it is proven troublesome for them. PLEASE! Anyone, please help me complete this task.
that company is the kind of company that suspend your website because their payment system is not complying with the law and they even dont know it.... We explained fopr one week it was not on our side, that everything was ok, that the problem was on their side. they just cut our website. Then we had to inform their billing team that law has changed (DSP2 law) and that their system was not compliant with the new law.... so unprofessional. Support service so unprofesionnal... they don't know nothing and they dont give a f*** High five Shopify !
This company is broken. Between lost CSRs or broken tech. You're better gauging your eyes out than attempt to deal with this Canadian excuse for e-commerce
I recieved a lot of actual useful help from Alen, he was really kind and helpful and gave answers to my questions so that I could actually understand, which I rarely do. I appreciate it Alen! Very good customer service! -From Elisa
Hello we work with Shopify about 3 jears .Store was working good after lot of Energie and time invest.then it starts the attacks that we not sell original products .we send all the information provider contactsetc. Shopify not answer and close ower store .So we loose all the work dan .go to police and inform .We recommend to not use the platform of Shpoify if not probability high to loose all your work dan and they close yor store and renn resell it w
If you plan on opening a business of any kind that requires assistance from the platform itself, go elsewhere and stay away from SHOPIFY. Their customer service is honestly the worst and agents have no knowledge of how their own system works. They have random hours of phone call operations so you're limited to lengthy chat or email chat sessions. And to make things worse, don't use their Shopify Payments as their accounting makes no sense in terms of negative and positive balances. Their agents can't ever answer the simplest questions when it comes to Shopify Payments. We have actually switched to use Shopify more of an inventory management as other apps pull this data to export to to other more reliable sales platforms. We are excited to know that we are jumping off that horrendous platform very soon. Anyhow, if you do decide to build a business on this platform make sure to use apps that are not managed by Shopify otherwise your going to run into issues that will take FOREVER to fix.
They used to be pretty decent. Now they are probably one of the worst hosting platforms. They take zero responsibility for any of their shortcomings. We've lost hundreds of thousands in sales due to outages on their end, they are extremely slow to fix any issues you pick up and will just try to blame any other app or payment provider etc. Everything they promise is a lie. What a scam of a company.
I signed up for Shopify in early July and purchased a domain through them, I also added the Pagefly app on Shopify's reccomendation so that I could access more templates for an online clothing retailer website that I was planning on launching. My experience was horrible. Shopify support has a chat bot that acts as a support person that spews positivity but does not solve any of your issues. They do have live people as well, but they are just as "robotic". Pagefly might have been the worst support experience I've ever had, they flat out did not respond to a number of my inquiries for assistance. On top of all of this, I followed the directions to cancel my membership, and the website did not save the cancellation, so I was charged for an additional month. The website would not allow me to de-activate my account until I paid for the additional month of service, which I did not use at any point. They had no interest in solving my issue, and the system that they have in place lacks the personal touch that's necessary to support situations that are not cookie cutter. If I could give them less than a 1 I would, they deserve a big fat 0.
Shopify will allow a customers credit card company to issue a charge back on a sale that will go back years. 3 years was what I was quoted as an example. You will be provided no proof of the customers claims. You will not get your product back. It does not matter if you have a return policy setup through their system. They will also charge you an extra $15 if you loose on top of the full amount of the sale. Sellers Beware!
Bought a retroarcade gameconsole, never got it and no reaction on e-mails. SCAM, so don’t fall for it like I did
Horrendous experience, endless loop of ' we endevaour to escalate your ticket and result your issue' then the ticket gets closed and no response.. then back onto live chat!! For the same to happen again, any issues get escalated to an imaginery team that never responds. Still waiting on a £4k payout and it's been 6 weeks. No reply to my emails. The team just send you in endless loops of no action, shame on Shopify and their ceo for treating businesses this way. I almost had to shut my store down and lay off a staff member.
Our company, bodyflowhydration.com , is currently using Shopify to process our sales. We also use another website builder/hosting for the front end of the site due to the lack of features/design capabilities that Shopify offers. It would be nice to move to one or the other.
If you pay for the month, you're not allowed to deactivate your subscription and continue to access your storefront during the period that you'd paid for.. I deactivated thinking it would be like literally any other subscription service but they kick you out of your account, even if you have a Shopify Balance from sales on your account. They also immediately terminate your domain connections.Secondly, they have a podcast that seems like it's useful information for small businesses and they talk about the value of their products like "Shopify Audiences" but make no mention these are only available to their most expensive plan members paying 2300+/mo.. Thats per MONTH. Thirdly, some of the most basic store operations are also behind paywalls and seem purposefully undeveloped so that they can push you toward using Third Party Apps that are subscription based, and they clearly make a profit from.. It's just not friendly for small businesses. They want money, lots of it, and lost whatever vision they had along the way.
Dreadful experience-made 2 purchases WITHOUT using Shopify but they follow any online purchase you make once you have the ap & they have your details So I was charged a fee for them to track my order which I didn't ask for-not even1 day later-Shopify notifies me the order has been delivered!5days is advised by the actual supplier. There is nowhere on the Shopify site that assists with Account Closure-have uninstalled the ap but they are still there like a virus!Don't even consider using Shopify!😬
I can't stand listening to your stupid French-language ad on nearly every one of my podcasts. You're wasting our time and your money, most listeners dont need your services. Please stop.
Just look at these reviews! This company really doesn't care one bit about its customers. It's hardly even worth writing a review. They have stopped my payments from the sales that I have made for 3 weeks with no explanation leaving my company in financial difficulty. Support is just a shield, not there to help but only to deflect people away!
Our company has been using shopify to host and design the e-commerce website and engage global customers. Shopify is easy to use with a rich set of functions and 3-rd party plugins. However, the pricing is not that transparent.
I just started using shopify, and then i upgraded to the pro plan yesterday.since then i cannot login to my account and worse i have been trying all day to get a meaningful responce.their 2nd tier customer service is the worst i have ever dealt with.cannot get responces!!!

“SHOPIFY does not support or advocate for their customers.”
Do not use Shopify- I have used them for 4 years for my online retail store and they do NOT have your back. They just want their money. Many situations have shown that is the goal. There is no easy way to speak to anyone- their support online is not acceptable. It seems like SHOPIFY is easy but once you get going you will find out it is not worth it. They have lost quite a bit of money for my store. I just wish someone would have posted something like this when I was looking at platforms. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Customer Support is Non-Existent! WARNING BEFORE YOU SIGN UP WITH SHOPIFY.com”
BE WARNED BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR SHOPIFY! I subscribed to the 3 month trail & forgot about it. On May 26th they hit my card for $40 and remembered the subscription. I've tried to contact Support twice. Since there was nothing ever done with the shop I feel that I am due a refund. Customer Support? They only have a chatbot to talk to, which cannot provide a refund, only direct you to articles that Shopify has written and keeps in a loop. The first time I waited on a live support agent for over an hour. Now today I've tried again to talk to someone other than the chatbot. So far I've been waiting for over an hour this time as well. An agent logged onto the chat, didn't say anything and left. I can see the log in and out. What a damn shame that a person has to waste their time on such horrible customer service, from what is supposed to be a reputable company! I'm filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and kissing that $40 goodbye! Tip for consumers:Shopify.com has HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Products used:A Shopify shop. “Empowering E-commerce with Shopify”
Shopify has been instrumental in helping me launch and grow my e-commerce business. The platform's user-friendly interface, customizable templates, and robust features make it easy to create and manage a professional online store. I appreciate Shopify's comprehensive suite of tools, including inventory management, order processing, and marketing solutions, which streamline operations and drive sales. Moreover, the platform's integration with third-party apps and services enhances functionality and scalability. With Shopify, I have everything I need to succeed in the competitive world of e-commerce, and I'm grateful for the support and resources it provides to help me achieve my business goals.
“They keep putting my payouts on hold so I can't access my money.”
They keep putting my payouts on hold with no explanation. This is the second time, and it has been nearly 4 weeks with no reason given. They have a web-based customer support system that seems to just be a buffer so you can't speak to anyone directly, they only tell you that your issue is being handled with their highly trained specialists. It has caused me, and my family great harm and difficulties and I doubt I'll be able to stay open. My customers blame me for stealing money, when I can't use the money, they paid to fulfill their orders. This has been a very bad experience. Tip for consumers:This would have been a good solution for me to accept cards, but it has turned into a nightmare! Products used:The Shopify POS via web and card reader Service Value Quality
“SCAM ARTISTS”
My son signed up for a trial account and deactivated his account before the trial was up but he still got charged for TWO months! When inquiring we found out that Shopify created a "fake" storefront on his behalf that he never even named, used, or had any products in. They refunded one month but refused to refund the other month because it was against their terms of service to provide refunds. There's no way to delete your credit card information once you put it in there, there's no business address listed anywhere, customer service is a joke they have no number you can only talk to somebody through chat. I would give zero stars if I could. There are numerous other people on the forums that complain about the same thing. Tip for consumers:Don’t use it. They rip you off. Products used:Store for a short period of time. Service Value Returns Quality
“Big Scam!”
I ordered a couple of things from this site only to receive 2 small packets of junk, (see pic) Pay Pal would not help because the seller would only refund me if I sent what I got back. Of course, this comes from China and the cost to ship and track is very high. These sellers have figured this out, it's an easy way for them to keep your cash! Never Again...
“Terrible point of Sale system to work with Quickbooks system”
I had to change point of sale system from quickbooks and they recommended Shopify. What a nightmare! The information does not map properly with Quickbooks desktop connector and nobody can figure out how to fix it. They say they will look into problem but don't. Payouts take more than 5 days to come into back. They are not charging proper tax even though I set this up properly. So many problems and not one Shopify customer service person can figure out anything. They are friendly but not helpful. If I could go back I would never choose Shopify. Terrible system and not user friendly
“Best Ecommerce Platform + Top-notch Support”
They are strict with their policies but they listen to merchants too. I have been using the Shopify platform for my and my client's businesses for 7 years already. I've seen a lot of improvements since then. Obviously, customer support isn't consistent. I had my own amazing support experience and some really bad experience and that's not enough to give them a negative review. I personally know other business owners internationally and locally who use Shopify and don't have issues with the platform. Maybe we're lucky, but that's my experience with this company. Tip for consumers:If you have time, research a lot before signing up. Creating your own website by yourself is difficult. If you have money to burn, hire a freelancer with positive reviews or someone you can trust even without a portfolio. After launching your website, marketing is where you'll have to spend a lot of money. So, I recommend that you skill up so you don't get scammed by developers and agencies. And you won't waste money testing on a lot of things on paid ads. Products used:Shopify basic plan Service Value Quality
“Worst Customer Service Ever”
This company is a joke. They charge extra for "priority" support. I'm currently on their priority support and have been waiting and listening to the godawful hold music for 45 minutes. The support people that finally answer are working from a script, full of "please thank you for kindly waiting while I put you on a brief hold once more" while they try to understand your question. None of them have any knowledge of the product and can't answer the simplest questions. The product is full of limitations and you are basically on your own except for irritating, screeching hold music. If I could give this company zero stars, I would. Products used:Shopify ecommerce Service Value Quality
“Warning - they will place a hold on your payout's without warning”
We are STILL waiting to hear from Shopify regarding OUR money being held by for 8 days without explanation. Small businesses cannot function with Shopify holding funds -without warning or reason. The fact that you cannot call support or speak to a human is INSANE. They only communicate via chat or email. This is unacceptable. We are actively in the process of finding a new platform for our business. Consider yourself warned.
“If you have to open a store RUN AWAY FROM SHOPIFY! It's the worse.”
After 4 years of having my business with thousands of products on the Shopify platform, all I can say is that Shopify sucks. It does not offer any protection to merchants, it is terrible at merchant's services. They never put themselves in merchant's shoes to give a solution to problems, quite the opposite! One thing on what they're really good at is TO TAKE YOUR MONEY. They don't protect you if a customer scams your business. They will scam you together with the scammer. In other words, you are on your own. I'm closing my business, taking it somewhere else, they've caused me too much loss already.
“Not good”
A few days ago I opened a new store through shopify, since yesterday 23.06.2023 the website and the platform are no longer working, I contacted them and it remains to be seen whether they will solve it in a short time. I am posting the conversation to give you you too with your opinion. Products used:ooo
“You will not get your money back”
We utilized Shopify's services for quite some time. However, upon deciding to transition to a different provider and closing our store, we were surprised to find that they charged our card for an annual fee for the subsequent year. Unfortunately, our efforts to resolve the issue, which included spending over 90 minutes in a chat conversation, were not fruitful. I advise potential users to be cautious when considering an annual subscription. The upfront cost may seem more affordable, but you could run into complications should you decide to change providers before the subscription period ends. Service
“THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY!”
Shopify will take your money and/or close your website with no warning! I am fighting with them right now because one of their apps erroneously took $89.99 out of my account, publicly admitted that it was their error, and, a month later, I am still waiting for the error to be corrected with absolutely NO HELP from Shopify. They own the ecommerce website market so they just don't care. NOT an American company!
“Security at Risk - Shopify Payments”
We shifted from Intuit POS to Shopify POS as recommended by Intuit. Unfortunately, customer service support is very poor with this company. We seek help concerning Shopify Payments for a year ago and was never resolved. We gave-up and used paypal & amazon pay for all our credit card and online transactions. SAD to say but we have to go back in dealing with Shopify customer service who does not render the necessary services to make our business grow. It seems that everyone in shopify customer service is very irresponsible in resolving important issues of their sellers/subscribers. TO INTUIT... why did you entrust us to Shopify. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“Connecting businesses with customers.”
Shopify facilitates interaction between the seller and the end customer. It's an amazing resource for small businesses to grow their client base within a short period of time. But of course you have to make a decent product first.
“Great site”
I have created multiple stores for people as well as my own shop and I have had no problems. They have been updating the company for all the years Ive been present. I seen some bad reviews saying they "bought bad stuff from shopify"? I think they mean they discovered a bad store owner that uses shopify for their web hosting services. Shopify is not in charge of sales or sending any of your items. But for anyone looking to sell products this is a great start
“Shopify is Negligent”
Someone hacked our store because Shopify's log in process is not secured. Bad people went onto to our store while it was on pause and somehow charged over 5,000 that Shopify is saying I have to pay. Again our store is on pause so no activity should have been allowed. Shopify is negligent because the way people can take over your online store seems like a simple process. I will continue to voice my stance on as many reviews as I possibly can to warn potential prospects to know about the bad business practices of Shopify.com Check with them to see what they do to protect you as a customer before you invest in their services. Thanks
“Terrible Shopify Review - Hope Everyone Reads This and Stays Away From Shopify.com”
If I could go back and not use shopify I would never touch their website. Just posting up my negative shopify review so others can read it and hopefully make the decision not to use them. I needed a website for my small cafe and saw all the advertising that shopify.com was doing so thought they must be good, oh how I was wrong. When I selected a template and made text and image changes to it would never save, the website was very slow at loading and would not load properly on mobile phones that we were testing on. The support you review from shopify is terrible, they simple do not care and tell you to watch a youtube video to fix the problem. We have since cancelled our website with them but they continue to take money out of our credit card without our authorization. I hope this review of shopify helps other users not to use them and go elsewhere.
“Process”
Their business processes for handling payouts for sales is not ideal for businesses who have existing business and are just moving to shopify. They mark everything as questionable and require documentation supporting your business after you have already converted. They should make this part of the conversion process. Products used:POS and ecommerce Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
“So far I like it”
I have been using it for a while, I have made really good projects on different freelancing platform and the whole thing is good. There are certain aspects that need improvement but it's not a big deal I think.
“Horrible”
After spending hours opening my store. I contacted all of my customers to let them know. One of my customers went on and placed a large order. The next day Shopify closed my store. Stating it was too much of a risk for them. Now they are dragging their feet on issuing a refund to my customer. There is no direct number to contact for customer service so in order to speak with someone you have to chat. As a business that handles customers small business we should be able to calm and speak with someone when there is a problem. I ended up going with Go Daddy not had a problem. I'm able to call when I have any issue or don't understand something and they are great with helping.
“Shopify merchants beware”
Shopify won't allow you to set-up your account with a pre-paid debit or credit card. They force a merchant to use their own Visa or MC. I knew this was going to be a problem when I set-up the account because it makes cancellations difficult because of their auto renew. Yes, I got burned by Shopify because I wanted to cancel and they disputed my CC and I lost. I have not used their service over a year and I was forced to pay for a service that I do not use and they misrepresented the ease of setting up a web site. My loss. Hope this helps. “Pitiful customer service for store owners.”
Read all the negative reviews! They are the worst I've seen in 25 years of running my business. If I ran my company like Shopify runs theirs, I'd be a janitor somewhere by now. Without question they are the worst when it comes to supporting their store owners. Particularly disturbing is their propensity to keep your money for disputes that only they claim to be witness to. IMO, they are more fraudulent than the few scammers they seem to be so worried about. Thank heavens I control my website so I can say adios. Buh-bye. If you choose to roll the dice with these unscrupulous, bureaucratic, incompetent people, then make sure you use your own separately registered domain and then point it to your store. That way, when you get fed up like so many of us have, you can at least bring your new customers with you. Also, insist on going with a payment processor that takes calls. I assure you Shopify does not. Their chat support is laughably bad too. You've been warned. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality

How To Remove Your Information From the Internet
Whether you like it or not, unfortunately, the Internet has all your personal information stored. How did that happen? Every time you visit a simple site and accept cookies, consent to their forms, or download an app, unscrupulous data brokers collect not just your phone number, name, AND address. They also sell this to third parties, which creates a $1 billion industry a year. Your collected personal data is used by buyers to send you never-ending spam emails, targeted ads, and, of course, telemarketing calls. Crooks use all your data without remorse.
We can help. Many people have asked us about how to remove your personal information from the Internet. How To Stop Third Parties From Tracking Your Devices
The second most powerful fraud prevention tool you should consider is Surfshark. Here is why you should get it now, as the first 5 months are free:
- They have an award-winning VPN service, protecting your privacy and preventing third parties from tracking your device.
- They will notify you when your personal info is leaked online so you can delete your private data from the Internet immediately.
- Surfshark has a super powerful antivirus program. It offers you effective protection from viruses and zero-day threats, a lightweight, clean, and easy-to-use app, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Check this: They hide your online searches, which means you will get only organic search results without tracking and follow-up ads. For example, when you search for a flight, and the next time you look at the same search, the prices are higher. With Surfshark, this doesn't happen.
For the Black Friday promotion, Surfshark offers 86% off + up to 5 months free to Scam Detector readers. You can get the deal only this week HERE or by clicking the button below.

Are You the Owner of shopify.com?
If you own shopify.com, we would love to hear from you. However, if you would like to challenge this review and trust score, we are more than willing to take a deeper look, but be prepared to offer solid proof of your business. Please introduce yourself first (your name, not "Admin"). Consumers are smart. Typically, they don't trust websites that don't show transparency, such as the location of the business, team, or any other physical existence. When domain owners contact us to challenge the trust score of their website on our website Validator, we would kindly ask them to share some of the following things: * Details from their ecosystem that would show that they are 100% trustworthy (certificate of incorporation, business registration, official records showing the name of the website or business, etc.). * Their personal profile on LinkedIn and social media accounts for the business on Facebook. * If possible, some screenshots/proof of satisfied clients (not testimonials on their website), proof of inventory, canceling orders when requested, etc.). We are more than willing to update the review right away—the more proof you show, the higher the trust score will be.
