We started with Optima Tax back in November of 2022. We reached out to them asking if they were able to help us with our 940's for federal. They stated yes but it was going to cost $22,000.00 to do so. We paid our first payment on 11-17-2022. We finished paying them on 8-17-2023. Since we paid them in full in the amount of $22,000.00, we have not heard anything from them! When I would call, they would ask to send them the last 3 months of pay stubs. I contacted Optima with the hopes of getting help with IRS back taxes and all I received was a bunch of bull. Everything they tell you is read off of a script. After I paid the initial fee I was told that someone would call me to confirm information and go over other details, which they did a week later. I requested to speak with the gentleman that was handling my case and was given the run around until I threatened to cancel. I finally received a call back from the representative and was not pleased at all. I was advised that I owed the IRS far more than I actually did and then was advised that I would have to pay Optima a small fortune in order for them to handle my case. I declined the offer because I couldn't afford their fee. I was told in the beginning that I would get my money back if canceled within 14 days and have yet to receive a dime. It took a while to get everything settled with the IRS, but it was definitely worth the wait!. They lure you in with a saleperson who will tell you what you want to hear so you pay upfront, this person has literally no idea if they can help or not. Then they stall for a year so they can do your next years taxes and hope some money hakes out. When it doesn't they set up a simple payment plan anybody could do with the IRS. That's all. I spent 3k on Optima, after a year of stalling I owed the entire amount to the IRS as well as roughly 2k in penalties and interest. They then offer everyone $350 to sign an agreement not to disparage the company. Found myself in tax trouble. Owed the IRS over 16,000 dollars. I saw the commercial about reduced tax bill. Hired Optima for around 1,500 dollars. They delayed it for 2 years. No reduction. Communications with Hai Nguyen seems very confusing and overly aggressive. I tell him my situation and many times I continually repeat myself. He turns my words around and interupts me immediately conveying an aggressive tone and using the IRS and their collection activities as a threat. I have not received any letters from IRS. I just needed assistance after the taxes are filed. This aggressive and manipulative shake down to get me on board is not appreciated. “Worst company ever”

I've been in their system for almost 4 years with nothing to show for it. I paid $13,000 for their services and all they did was prepared back tax years and I have to get another accountant to do them because they weren't done properly and say I owe more than I actually do. Long story short, they are not good at what they do and outright lie about their services. I settled with the IRS myself after dealing with these clowns for 1/2 of what their last offer to me was for. Customer service doesn't exist in this company and they cannot retain their employees for more than a few months. I've personally had to deal with a dozen different people along the way with each change starting me from scratch. When I called the IRS they told me I was a day away from garnishment and liens because OTR hadn't contacted them on my behalf for the last 6 months. I paid for that service? Now they want to offer me a $650 refund out of the $13,000 I paid them in which I ended getting the case settled….stay away from this company. I never write reviews but I don't want anybody else to go through the expensive and stressful experience I had with these people. It starts with a positive phone call made by a professional salesman promising you to fix everything. Over 3 years went by and they were sitting on ALL the paperwork they'd requested from me, every time I called to see what's going on nobody had a clue and they'd promise call backs that never happened. Once they finally "closed" the case they made an deal with the IRS that I CAN NOT AFFORD! BUT EVEN WORSE! They didn't set it up right so after two months the IRS IS NOW THREATENING TO DEFAULT the agreement and I'm even worse off than when this started. STAY AWAY... THEY RUINED MY YEAR..

“Unfair Assistance”

I employed Optima tax back in 2022 to assist me with an IRS discrepancy. I was awarded an injury lawsuit which is nontaxable in the state of New Jersey, the IRS taxed the injury lawsuit and held my last 4 years of taxes due to their oversight, I paid Optima Tax way over 5,000 dollars to assist me so the IRS would release my 4 years of taxes they have been holding on to. Optima tax was paid in full for their assistance please note and no resolution to date. IRS sent me a letter explaining to me what documents they needed for a redetermination to be able to receive my last 4 years of held taxes. I sent them everything they needed myself, the same documents they requested from Optima Tax which I was not informed.
