Discogs don't seem to want to do anything about fraudulent sellers. Looks like a few other people have been caught out with a particular seller, who still has an account on Discogs. Thankfully, my bank sorted out a refund but I won't use the service again, I've deleted my account.
Discogs seem to believe that the Vinyl Buying Public are stupid. They offer sellers who are not verified, they will not let you buy unless you have a PAYPAL account. Paypal are now known for treating their customers like dirt. So, if you want poor comms, bad sellers, deal with Paypal the Corporate abuses...this site is for you.
almost every site out there removes the repeated password cooldown if it is reset, but not discogs. very annoyinga lot of users are egotistical
I have so far had no problem with any of the sellers on discogs, I wanted a rare album on cassette tape and found excellent seller on here, all the way in Indonesia and was really happy with the service and item, so not at all bad. Have bought several items so far and never any issues at all. Just remember to read the reviews first and I go by those as my security before buying, then you'll find yourself some favourite sellers from anywhere in the world as I've done.
I'm absolutely astounded why there's so much hate for Discogs on here. I've sold my drum and bass vinyl on Discogs since 2012 and made a few thousand out of it and never encountered a problem. It's a fair marketplace with a good balance between rules and freedom as a seller and their service works really well. The catalogue system is the best, every obscure white label and promo is on here. It feels like a community rather than just a website
Brought many things on the website until i had a cd soundtrack with a cracked jewel case which i paid a lot for , the person i brought i from ignored my messages so i left negative feedback . They supended my account , so i closed it never to return . Disgusting practise on there behalf.
Discogs is quite an adequate resource as a database for music collectors to corroborate pressings and editions, and how to differentiate them; although its content is 100% based on community corroboration and general public knowledge of existence - it doesn’t have everything on there. As a platform to buy, it’s terrible - the user experience of doing business breaks the fundamental rule of sales: “if it can’t be seen, it won’t be bought” - no images of the items, unlike most of the listings on eBay by comparison. Since the customer service and general communication experience is absolutely awful, I’d honestly recommend using Discogs in tandem with eBay - the former as reference; the latter to BROWSE and buy.Initially wanted to give 2.5 stars, but - thankfully - I realised it wasn’t possible; I say “thankfully” because of having my time wasted by the site’s idiotic and annoying account/log in policies, and waiting hours to be able to log back in, only to be told I’m unable to purchase an item I had logged in to inquire about, but due to my rating not being high enough I was unable to purchase it, in spite of the fact that I had tried to at least inquire about the item. Should be ZERO stars! Their customer service is the worst I have ever come across. A market leader in sales, so they're just not bothered about anything as long as the money rolls in. Item arrive very quick and in good conditon.outer box and inner box were excellent condition and CDs were mint with no wear or scuffs or scratches either. Will use this company again! Discogs is the best music cataloguing website. But it is also very dated, has many duplicate records and doesn't provide any nice reporting features.It's the best place to buy records, but is super clunky when doing so.Great and awful at the same time!!
Discogs is nearly impossible to use. Yes you can buy stuff, but there appears to be no way to contact a seller except by leaving feedback. Then you're expected to delete your feedback, and there's no way to do that either. Amazon Music is sheer inoperative hell so Discogs is at least a little better than that.
Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Not even going to bother going into detail about my circumstance as I’ve already exhausted myself talking to thin air for months until an “employee” finally showed up and offered a sad excuse for “solved”. It’s a shame because the users are generally great and I enjoyed buying a lot of my grails with zero issues up until the system makes a mistake and then you actually have to *try* to talk to a customer support that is pretty much non existent. Although Discogs is an excellent website for cataloging your records and CDs, it links with PayPal which keeps your money for up to 21 days. Honestly I think Id just rather put my media up for sale on eBay or lok for some other site. PayPal is a ripoff.
Many years ago I was a Discogs buyer because I like to listen to and collect records that are often hard to find. After one too many bad deals without recompense I closed my account. I recently took the plunge and rejoined but already after only a few transactions at least a third have been difficult, slow or just not happened at all. One non-sale in particular attracted some rather nasty seller abuse because I left negative feedback - something I rarely have cause to do but says it all. It's an awful position to be put in! I have only made a few purchases but already the uncertainty of doing business on this site is probably going to see me close my account again. I have purchased items through Discogs 17 times over the past twelve months. I had issues with only one seller. Discogs shuts down any sellers account, if that seller does not respond to a message/concern within four business days. All sellers are rated by the buyers. Avoid poorly rated sellers and you should have no problem. Discogs is no riskier than any other online marketplace. The internet is full to the brim with toxic individuals. This is not unique to Discogs. My informed opinion is that these one star reviews are the result of people grinding their axes, as people have a want to do.
1. Seller listed CD as LP which was only declared after payment. Refunded everything but the Discogs fee. Opened ticket, never heard back. Fee was not returned.2. Seller changed delivery fees after payment significantly. A shipment from Austria to Germany ended up costing more than the record. Package was not protected. No communication, no response to questions.First and last time I’ll use the platform unfortunately. Great offering, broken tech, scammy users.

“Customer comes second always”
If you want to buy vinyl records go anywhere else basically, favours sellers if you miss an email for three days you are potentially subject to abuse and negative public reviews, been like this for years not a great way to grow a website and community oh well Service Value Returns
“They charge 25% commission for sellers”
I sold a vinyl record on Discogs and used Paypal as the means of being paid. The record cost 29 euros. Shipping was 17 euros. Tax was 4.75, so the purchase total was 50.75 euros and the purchaser sent this in good faith. From this I had 2.83 deducted as Discogs' 9% fee. However, I only received 38.16 euros. Paypal indicates that a staggering 9.76 euros has been deducted in addition in the concept of a "Partner fee". This is more than 21%; with the previous fee it is 25%. This is totally abusive. In the first place, it is arbitrary and unannounced. How do I know what price to charge if Discogs are going to charge me 21% more without warning? I am no longer going to deal with them. They use dishonest business practices and the internet is full of angry sellers saying the same thing.

What was once a place made up of music enthusiasts is now at the mercy of shady people and scammers who act freely, also thanks to the site's policy and its administrators who increasingly tolerate certain attitudes. I've been a seller on Discogs for over 6 years. Recently, they implemented a 2-factor login process. Since doing so, I have been unable to access my account. I have reached out to them numerous times and still (almost a month later) cannot access my account. It is extremely frustrating that I have spent countless hours logging my inventory and building a customer base only to be locked out of my account and no one will respond to my email. Discogs is a waste of time. The sellers do not know how to judge quality and most are fake. If you want to create listings for Ebay, they are great for copying. Besides that I find them completely useless. Don't bother, unless you want to get stuck in their disorganized mess. Buy scratched, skipping, ruined records sold as Mint.

Great access to plethora of music with knowledge, reviews etc from contributors However, as a site it's badly disposed towards smaller buyers and sellers - admin staff strike people's accounts without plausible explanation, suspending them from activity often mid purchase. As a 100% buyer, with well over 600 purchases my account had been suspended for no reason given. Forum is awful too - opinions are shut down and often ops are victimised. Deplorable service in some ways. Leaves a bad taste in mouth. Seller/ buyer feedback system is also open to abuse If stick to just buying and selling - it's very good. But other activities such as submissions are also a minefield and not worth the hassle Sellers generally good but never go for a few points below 100% and stick to sellers with under / around a 1000 odd sales under their belt.

Once the greatest music sales site, now a pile of garbage. As others have noted, all this site does is enable crooks to take your money and never send you what you actually paid for. “Bootleg central”
I have just been scammed by one of their bootleggers via Discogs marketplace for just under £50. Discogs are facilitating the illegal sale of bootlegs via their marketplace. Some titles listed never even existed until a bootlegger comes along and creates a so-called 'release page.' They do not care for intellectual property rights or copyrighted materials in general. Discogs are just cluttered with inaccurate information and guesswork which they allow these bootleggers to hide behind! Tip for consumers:Beware of scammers and bootleggers! Discogs was once great about protecting their buyers. That is no more. I purchased an expensive record from one of their buyers. When I received the record the catalog number didn't match the listing. The guy blamed it on a misunderstanding, but he was clearly trying to pull a fast one. I paid for the return mailing and expected that the mailing fees would be refunded with the purchase price. Nope. Discogs policy leaves that to the seller's discretion. So, to add insult to injury, I had the privilege of paying for the experience of being ripped off on Discogs. Shop somewhere else or, better still, support your local record store.

Overall, Discogs is a good place to get fairly reliable information on records, tapes and CDs. I sell on Discogs, and have found the members to be generally good customers. Using PayPal seems to provide sufficient buyer and seller protection, but I've only sold a few dozen LPs. I do find their review and commenting process incredibly complex and it is impossible to correct a change made by some "expert" you can't contact and can't dispute. I try to avoid participating due to the lack of inclusion among the established Discogs community.
“Outrageously Bad”
They offer absolutely no buyer protection. I paid a considerable amount of money for a rare record and when I didn't receive it the seller said their account had been hacked and that they had not received my money. “Positive Experience (Sorry to Disappoint Those With Gripes)”
Let me say, from the outset, that I've never sold on Discogs. Thus, I have no familiarity with that aspect of it. What I can say is that I've had a satisfactory, nay wonderful experience in filling in gaps in both my collection of LP's, 78's, and Edison Diamond Discs. Some of the LP's are those that were on a "want list" as far back as middle school, and I've been able to purchase them at reasonable prices, in some case unopened. Grading seems to bring out the whiners as to those who want everything absolutely perfect. Maybe these children should collect 78's or Diamond Discs. There's no such thing as Mint, and you have to live with that. I've found grading to be accurate. As to communication with sellers, those who were somewhat dilatory simply received a polite message inquiring as to the status of the order and Presto! “Another Vendor Predator”
Like Amazon.com and Paypal, Discogs belongs in the same category of online third-party selling platforms which exists to profit off the hands that feed it: the vendor. All conflict resolution automatically defaults to the customers who have quickly learned how to manipulate, lie and cheat sellers who are trying to conduct an honest business. “Terrible buying experience, almost all of the time”
Terrible experience as a buyer most of the time. Sellers grade incredibly loosely, selling damaged/dirty/scratched music as VG+ so frequently I either only buy NM- or just brace to receive garbage. The worst part is there is no real recourse for a buyer other than a return. If you leave negative feedback, the seller will retaliate and leave you negative feedback so just have to deal with the terrible experience. Sellers move on to rip off the next person because there is no safe way to leave honest feedback. Sellers seem to know this and fully take advantage of buyers.

“What a joke..”
Ordered 3 records from 3 different sellers, never got them had to jump hoops to get my money back. For one of the records I never got my money back. If you're looking to do some online shopping for records AVOiD this website at all cost I promise that record you really want, you can find somewhere else and if you can't make a personal trip to the seller to obtain it. Worse online shopping experience I've ever had and the 1.8 star overall review determines that it's not just me. “Subjective Website”
As a seller, and reading other reviews, I can say that Discogs SHOULD change by somehow either allowing sellers to post photos of their media, or a link for photos. That way a buyer can look at the actual LP or CD, etc, that they are interested in. Grading LP, is especially hard since it is a subjective system. I may think a record looks NM (Near Mint) while someone else may say it is only VG (very good). As far as sellers scamming potential buyers, there are scammers and thieves in almost every area of our lives now-a-days. Do your research before dropping hard earned money on that record. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. Ask the seller for photos, scans, whatever. Sure they can still bait and switch, but look at their reviews also. I WANT people to look at my merchandise. That way, they'll come back again. Just as a buyer, be cautious. And remember Discogs is not an Amazon or Ebay.
