carbonite.com Review
The Scam Detector website Validator gives carbonite.com one of the higher trust scores on the platform: 90.6. It signals that the business is best defined by the following tags: Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure.. We are confident about our score as we also partner with other high-tech, fraud-prevention companies that found the same results. So, why this score? We came up with the 90.6 score based on 53 aggregated factors relevant to carbonite.com's industry. The algorithm detected little high-risk activity related to phishing, spamming, and other factors, as noted in the Authentic. Trustworthy. Secure. tags above. Long story short, we deem this a secure website. But let's explain in more detail.
Explaining Our Analytical Approach
We've displayed some important information within the Company Details section above, each deserving more explanation:
- Proximity to Suspicious Websites
- Threat Profile
- Phishing Profile
- Malware Score
- Spam Score
- Domain Blacklist Status
- HTTPS connection
- Domain Creation Date
While some are self-explanatory concerning carbonite.com, let's look closer at the remaining ones.
Proximity to Potentially Harmful Websites
This metric gauges the connection, scored on a scale of 1 to 100, between carbonite.com and websites marked as suspicious. Elevated scores point to a stronger link with these questionable online destinations. It's worth noting that website owners might not always be aware of their site's proximity to these dubious platforms or servers. However, a "Proximity to Suspicious Websites" score surpassing 80 strongly indicates a high-risk website, while a score below 30 signifies a less-threatening site.
Risk Factors: Threat, Phishing, Malware, and Spam
These indicators reveal the vulnerabilities and elements embedded within the HTML code of carbonite.com. They become especially pertinent if the website has received reports from internet users who've encountered unsolicited emails, ads, or messages related to the site. In the context of carbonite.com, our investigation continues working to pinpoint the specific category, but we welcome your insights in the comments below. A high Malware score generally implies the presence of suspicious code that might be unknowingly disseminated. Conversely, a high Spam score hints at a possibly spam-ridden email address associated with the business. Scores under 30 in both categories are reassuring, but any score surpassing this threshold should raise concerns. carbonite.com is an authentic, safe website, given all the risk factors and data numbers analyzed in this in-depth review. Share your experience in the comments.
Domain Blacklisting Status
This term indicates whether carbonite.com has landed on any online directories' blacklists and earned a suspicious tag.
Assessing HTTPS Connectivity
This section provides insight into whether carbonite.com boasts an 's' at the end of the 'HTTP' protocol listed in your browser's address bar. If the tab displays in green, consider it a positive sign.
Safe Check
We want our trust scores and reviews to be as accurate as possible so that you can protect yourself from online fraud. Our algorithm aggregates factors that efficiently analyze a company's website, in this case, carbonite.com.

I have been paying for this service for over ten years. My computer died and they had zero pictures or documents saved (empty folders!). (Despite me having seen the green dot that indicated they were backed up). It’s a scam of a company. Do not recommend!
They claim to have the best support but its basically nonexistent. Tried to cancel my subscription after it auto charged. I just wanted a refund for the 360 days I wouldn't have it. There is NO way to reach support. Its a joke. I would like to confirm that auto payment is turned off but can't even do that. Find a more reputable company that actually has customer support.
I've used Carbonite since they started after hearing about it on NPR. I've had a couple computers totally crash since them with my 30,000 digital photos on them. Each time, I just get a repair done or a new computer, Carbonite seemlessly puts everything back like it was. I really appreciate knowing that my digital memories are safe with Carbonite. Thanks!
I had to restore my files due to needing a replacement hard-drive on my Dell desktop.Carbonite's instructions on line were very helpful. There were a few minor things that I didn't know about until after the restore but they seemed to resolve themselves!Carbonite's invaluable help when you lose all your data is well worth their very fair cost.
New iMac Pro. Best Buy transferred data/info(?). Everything didn’t seem right. Carbonite tech did a great job helping me through. Still think there are issues with data transfer. Best Buy sold me Webroot virus protection. It did not install. BB “geek” said new iMac Pro not yet “cleared” for Webroot, try in a few weeks. Carbonite tech said Carbonite recently acquired Webroot. I still can’t installWebroot. Any advice?
Carbonite did not let me down when my computer's hard drive crashed a few years back... I cannot imagine how I could have possibly continued running my business if all those thousands of files had been lost. It is SO worth the money to have the peace of mind to know everything is continuously backed up and will be restored in case there is another computer disaster sometime in the future.
As stated before (since no one responded so far), you software running on MAC OS X drains lap top's battery in about 1-2hours. When Carobonite is 'uninstalled' battery runs for up to 8 hours. This has been going on for past 2-3 years and has been validated (after many hours of testing and back/forth) by most Sr./TOP Apple technicians. PLEASE either resolve this 'hidden' issue or REFUND my recent 2 years subscription as will need to move on to another EXTERNAL type backup platform. This is URGENT.PLEASE respond....
Carbonite regularly stops backing up and you won't know that it happened. For any issues, the support just walks you through reinstalling from scratch. Upgrading from version 1 to version 2 was a major hassle and took aver a week.Carbonite is a pice of junk. Avoid it. Don't rely on it to actually back up aything safely on your Mac.
Got message from Carbonite saying that my account hadn't backed up lately, so I logged on and updated Carbonite...in the process I had left a message on whatever they call their virtual assistant. Soon they checked what I had written and informed me the steps I should have taken before reinstalling software. I did that and it works fine. Would have been nice if the process were included in the download instructions. But all's well that ends well.
Carbonite is effective and easy to use. I do have an error that keeps showing up that I can't get to clear and their technical help hasn't gotten back to me. Fortunately, it isn't an error of not backing files up, but is actually not deleting old files it says it will! Still, it is annoying. Otherwise, I feel confident that all my pictures and important files are backed-up.
Carbonite has requested a review with reminders many times. Recently they apologized for bugging me. That's the first time a company has done that and it made me feel a little ashamed in being neglectful. It also reminded me that feedback is really important to you.In terms of feedback I'm quite satisfied. I assume everything is going along fine because I get periodic reminders of the back ups and I just truck on along.
I have been using Carbonite back-up program for many years. EXTREMELY happy! It saved me many times over the years! When I lost documents on my computer, Carbonite to the rescue! Or when I needed to go to a previous version of a document if by mistake I saved a computer document, but had deleted info before re-saving. Carbonite again to the rescue! I know of someone who was fired by his job because he didn't back up documents & he had visited homes & documented info for the job, but his computer crashed & lost everything. He wished he had a great program like Carbonite! Very, very highly recommend!
Have an old computer that dies at the wrong moments. Just recently I overwhelmed the processor and crashed. All files involved were never touched due the Carbonite features. A big "Thank You" is forthcoming. Somehow you have built into Carbonite a feature to reconstruct what was working at the moment of a crash. Again, thanks!
Paid for a new subscription but licence has not updated & no licence code issued. No support available to fix it.Web messaging does not workUK phone number does not workFacebook Messenger - automated response - nothing elseEmail support - no responseIf they can't be contacted for a simple account query what happens if I have a major issue?
I was very pleased with how easy it was to be able to transfer my files over to my new computer, and it only took a day or two to complete the process. The only reason I am not giving this review five stars is that I found that files and photos that were saved inside multiple folders (a folder inside another folder) were not restored. Luckily my old computer was still active, or else those items would have been completely lost.
I just installed Carbonite 2.8.4 on my new Mac Studio, and had an installation problem as a result of some detritus migrated over from an older Mac. I called Carbonite support, was connected to "James", and had the best support experience I've ever had with an App provider in my 16 years as a Mac user. In 15 minutes, James not only fixed my Carbonite installation and got the backup going, but reviewed my situation and provided suggestions for all the backup preferences. He knew his way around a Mac better than anybody I've ever worked with.
Recently my husband purchased a new Laptop from Costco. Soon after setting it up and all the files were downloaded via Carbonite, the Laptop crashed completely. The machine had to be completely reconfigured. Fortunately all the files had been stored with Carbonite and everything was recovered. Excellent support from level 2 at Carbonite
Moving from an old laptop to a new one without needing to have an IT person do it for me!. Hardest part is figuring out which downloaded software I needed. Other events made this a little more difficult but still a positive experience.
I love the idea that I don’t have to remember to backup everything all the time. Carbonite automatically backs up everything on both my computers at regular intervals and lets me know if it was unable to do so. I took this for granted until my computer failed.Having lost all my data once in the past, the backup on Carbonite was priceless!! I didn’t lose a thing: no pictures, no documents, nothing. Thanks, Carbonite! I will subscribe to you as long as you are available.
This is the second time that I provide information on my experience with Carbonite. As was stated earlier, it's a tremendous service, which leaves me feeling secure about the data on my computer should any event occur that would cause me to lose anything of value. So far, I haven't had a bad experience.

“Carbonite loses data”
Carbonite has been a nightmare for me. After being a customer for years they ended up losing almost all of my data when I ordered hard drives of the full backups. Basically the hard drives had the entire directory structure but all the files were gone! They arrogantly told me, through support, that my files were on their "legacy" software, and so, basically, too bad. I am furious at this company and wish I could leave them a negative review in every corner of the internet. Stay away from Carbonite! Tip for consumers:This is the most horrible company in existence. “A back-up service that does NOT back up.”
Carbonite lost a file folder that was critical to me. The 'service' was terrible. After complaining via multiple emails, they offered a refund of my purchase price. Although this would not compensate the loss of the files, it would be some compensation, so I accepted it. Then they cancelled my entire account! So here's Carbonite: 1) incompetent at backing up and 2) dishonest! I have since switched to Livedrive - so far so good. Tip for consumers:No, see my review. “Outstanding Customer Service”
My laptop died and needed to port my subscription over to the new one. Very confused how that's done. However, an employee named Kevin helped me remotely and did it all perfectly. Very helpful, friendly and took care of everything. I'm a very, very happy camper with Carbonite and their tremendous customer service! “Carbonite not reliable - do not use”
On June 24,2021, Carbonite data backup failed without indicating on the desktop app that backup of data had terminated. Three service calls with remote work by Carbonite tech support did not resolve the problem. My account also shows that I have been charged twice for two different levels of services on the same date, one service is for $164.00 for 2 years of Carbonite Safe Prime, and the other was for Carbonite Safe Plus for 1 year for $119.99, both processed on 05/25/2021 with the same card number. This is obviously a mistake, as I am on automatic renewal. I ask for a refund and was refused. My initial subscription was processed on 05/21/2020 for 1 year. Therefore, I only had one month of working service in 2021. It is now August. Tech support advised me to not escalate to tier 2 because they could lose their job. This is concerning.
“I learned late in the computing game that backing-up...”
I learned late in the computing game that backing-up files is an absolute must. Anyone who has lost an extensive iTunes library can appreciate the necessity of online backup. I admit that Carbonite is the first back up site that I have used but I speak highly of my experience. I was able to back-up several GB's worth of files from a work computer before returning it to my place of employment. I was attracted to Carbonite for its economical price ($59 for one year) as well as anytime, anywhere access. So far, so good. Disclaimer: I am not a tech geek, so this review may lack nerd credibility.
“Very deceptive”
They bought Mozy, a reputable cloud backup service, then trashed the service; but charged more. It slows the computer drastically, on programs that have nothing to do with backing up. Try to cancel? Good Luck. There is no way to directly email or call them. No matter where you search on their "service" links, it a circular in responsive system. Then try to get a refund. I suggest filling a complaint with the BBB, and your States Attorney General. Tip for consumers:Avoid this trap. Terrible deceptive “service”. They purposely complicate any process to cancel. Products used:Carbonite Cloud Backup Service Value Returns Quality
“You will not be happy!”
After the trail not work the way the trial did. Support team just wanted me to delete the software and reload another copy. It never worked again and I was told my 30 days was over so I could not get a refund. You must need the hundred $ more then I do. I will make sure as many people as I cab reach will be safe the problem of doing business a their rate company. Tip for consumers:I changed to another sevice and everything is great now. “Don't bother if you have a MAC”
I have 2 Mac's in the house. It took 3 months but I finally resolved the backup problem with one of them. Now the other one refuses to back up. I've gone thru their directions, and it backed up on time in a month. They want to have a remote session where they will take control of my computer--I don't think so. Requested a partial refund, got an emphatic no, we don't do that. Unfortunately I'm just going to have to bit the bullet and totally get rid of this so called back up. It just doesn't like and IOS operating system. Just get an external drive and use Time Machine, it does the same thing. And if you want a cloud based back up, use ICloud--you know that will work with a MAC.
“Impressive technical assistance”
I am extremely satisfied with Carbonite. I worked with a tech support guy named Mike. He helped us locate precious files (pictures) that were in a separate drive. He took the extra time and asked the right questions to help me find these files. He then went above and beyond to help me delete duplicates and straighten out my filing system. I like that Carbonite is clear in warning you that they will only keep files you have deleted 30 days. Their customer assistance is the best I have experienced. They are clear and helpful!
“No access, useless service”
After 5 years of paying Carbonite dues, I finally needed to access the files due to a computer failure. I was asked to do a password reset and subsequently asked security questions to which the service refused my answers. I called on tech support to help but it was like talking to a wall. I have since paid for someone to pull my files off the hard drive and I can now keep them on flash drive or google drive where they are always available to me. What this means is I have been paying for nothing for the past five years. To date, Carbonite still has not given me access to my own files.
“Do Not use this service if you avoid it.”
Do Not use this service. There customer support is terrible. Their product does not restore correctly. It was double downloading all my files. It is very slow although they would have you believe it is your band with. They create additional data use age when none is required once a drive is restored because there system doesn't recognize the new drive even though it is named the same. Find another service.
“Nothing but a scam”
It was OK for a while but when I needed them, I found out they discontinued their "Mirror image" backup option I was paying extra for. They kept charging me the extra fee but never told me that service was no longer there. I also found out they lost a lot of my files and my basic backups had stopped. I still have 10 months left on my subscription and they tell me they can't do anything for me and won't refund if I cancel.
“Annoying and intrusive messages when did not renew.”
Would not recommend. The list of downloaded pages is very difficult to navigate. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason in how the files are listed. If you know the name of the file you are OK, because you can do a search. It may have downloaded all the necessary files. It is hard to tell. The worse is when I did not renew, I am being harassed to renew. A flashing notice comes up and can't be deleted because it does not stand still long enough. It has been several days and I am still getting the very annoying and intrusive notices. For this reason alone I would not get Carbonite back-up again.
“Bait and switch”
I signed up with Carbonite for home use for the mirror image backup. Now they're discontinuing it and asking me to spend $500+ for a 'business' subscription to keep the image backup facility. This is outrageous. I'm requesting a refund of the remaining pre-paid year's subscription. We'll see what happens... John F.
“Lost 1,000's of my files”
I used Carbonite to back up appraisal files. Last month they decided, without contacting me, that a different computer should be backed up rather than the one I contracted for. Poof! All my files were purged. They were probably 6-7 years of files that were lost. I am growling silently because of this f--- up!
“Avoid at all costs”
I was with Mozy, what a rubbish product Carbonite Safe is in terms of a replacement. I tried to cancel, but it is impossible to stop these guys taking your money as support just sends template emails. I have had to report Carbonite to my bank to prevent further unauthorised use of my card.
“Useless”
A number of years ago, near 10, when I first bought Carbonite, it was a great service. It saved me twice. It is now redundant and useless. I still have it and when I needed it to recover what I couldn't from iCloud they had deleted it. I will not renew my subscription and, I suspect, they will not last long without some major changes in their operation.
“Stay away, they have gone down hill in the last few years!”
Carbonite recently lost 950,000 files (yep almost a terabyte). I caught it in time, but after 7 months of back and forth about where the files where, they finally admitted they deleted per their 30 day policy - this was after being assured by two techs that my files would be put back into the proper folders. I lost 15 years of work, and about 2 days arguing with the company. This is after spending roughy $1,000 for backups. At the end I asked that they ship me a disk copy of my remaining files, for which the charged me $280 dollars. Talk about insult to injury. In addition to all this there system is clunky, slow and is almost impossible to get your information from - it is pretty much a repository and even that doesn't work sometimes. Stay away from them, there are faster, cheaper, more flexible options out there that don't just delete 950,000 files.
“Useless”
Years subscribed to Carbonite and the very first time I needed was useless. I need to order a hard drive containing my files to be delivered but no one told me that I needed to return before a deadline or be charged $147. Carbonite assures that they sent a email warning me about this but I never got that email. They never warned me on the phone either. The only warning was in the box containing the hard drive that I opened when back in town a month after the deadline passes. I called and they say they will never return the charge. Useless.
“Terrible customer service. Back-up erased entirely from my system/”
It's December 2, and Carbonite still uses Covid as an excuse for absolutely TERRIBLE customer service. Yesterday, the wait time was 55 minutes, left a call-back #, no one ever called back. I have a priority case because my entire back-up was erased from the Carbonite system. I pre-paid a full year, so it's not for a lack of $$. I'm now on hold a second day. Was transferred over to as a priority. Been on hold now for42 minutes. I'm cancelling. This company is the WORST!
“Restoring can take months... useless”
Backup is simple and automatic. Want to restore? Good Luck! You can only restore 10G at a time and at a very slow rate. Need to restore the whole backup? Depending on the amount of data, as much as a month when your computer is unavailable to use. Support is horrible. They interrupt and don't listen. I had to repeat my email address 9 times because of that. You can expedite the restore with a hideously expensive service where they send you a disc. Wait time is high. I used the call back and they called but did not connect so I had to call back and wait. And further, if you do restore? You can't choose the date of the backup to restore. If you just select folders it can take as much as a year to get what you need because of the 10G backup limitation. USELESS Service that creates more problems than it solves.
“TECHNICAL SUPPORT FIASCO”
Carbonite technical support agents are extremely limited in their technical support knowledge. They are only trained on carbonite's proprietary software. From personal experience, don't expect any assistance with regard to importing from any restored files they put back on your computer. THEY DON'T! THEY CAN'T! THEY WON'T PERIOD! Responses for requests for technical support is mostly 'boiler plate' jabber and nothing more. When an technical support agent can't help, they pass you off to another agent who mirrors what the prior agent says. Getting to a supervisor is near impossible. They don't respond to my inquiries. This is only one reason that cabonite gets less than 3 STARS in most online reviews. Tip for consumers:Don't let Carbonite pass you off to SUPPORT.COM which charges for any service they provide. Products used:CARBONITE'S SAFE BACKUP Service Value Quality
“Don't Trust Carbonite!”
I have been a Carbonite customer for 7 years. Every year my bill got automatically deducted from a credit card I had on file with them. During my last billing cycle they claim to have notified me that my credit card had expired, and as a result permanently terminated my account with my 33,000 files! I couldn't believe it when they told me this. When I asked them if they could resend their warning emails so I could see them with my own eyes, they said I'd have to take it up legally with their marketing department. I have never been so disappointed and dissatisfied as a customer in my entire life. The entire reason this business exists is to help people feel safe and secure about their information. They were completely resigned to the fact that there was nothing they could do to help me recover my files. They took my money for 7 years and I lost all my files. This should never happen to anyone. I'm in shock that they were so unhelpful!
“Hasn't backed up my files for over a year.”
Checked a week ago to see the status of my Carbonite backup and discovered that my files have not been backed up for over a year. My subscrition ends Jan 2024. Contacted the suppor vie email as this is the only way. They responed with a case number and a message that they will look into the problem within 1 business day. It's been a week. Files are still not being backed up. I re-installed the Carbonite software and for the past two days am getting a status "Backup in Progress" but nothing is being backed up. No way to contact anyone at Carbonite. Terrible service. Used to be very good when I signed up 10 years ago. Have to find another backup service.
“Switched to Gs Richcopy 360”
The subscription was set to renew automatically but in 2018, Carbonite wanted to increase the yearly subscription by more than 50% with low upgrades without warning, Also you have to waste your time calling the Carbonite representative if you need to restore older files from a backup instead of doing it your self. Now I am using Gs Richcopy 360 which has a very good license policy (for once), I can do any type of backup by myself, no need for the support because of the easiness of the tool.

How To Remove Your Information From the Internet
Whether you like it or not, unfortunately, the Internet has all your personal information stored. How did that happen? Every time you visit a simple site and accept cookies, consent to their forms, or download an app, unscrupulous data brokers collect not just your phone number, name, AND address. They also sell this to third parties, which creates a $1 billion industry a year. Your collected personal data is used by buyers to send you never-ending spam emails, targeted ads, and, of course, telemarketing calls. Crooks use all your data without remorse.
We can help. Many people have asked us about how to remove your personal information from the Internet. If you want your data deleted entirely from the online world, contact our official partners at Incogni immediately. This legitimate data privacy tool works on your behalf to officially require a ton of online brokers to remove your data.

Are You the Owner of carbonite.com?
If you own carbonite.com, we’d love to hear from you. If you'd like to challenge the trust score we’ve assigned, we’re happy to take a closer look. However, please be prepared to provide solid proof of your business's legitimacy. Introduce yourself with your name (not just "Admin").
When domain owners contact us to dispute their trust score, we kindly ask for the following:
* Business documentation that verifies your legitimacy (e.g., certificate of incorporation, business registration, or official records with the site or business name).
* Your personal LinkedIn profile and the business's social media accounts (e.g., Facebook).
* If available, proof of satisfied customers (e.g., screenshots, not just testimonials on your website), evidence of inventory, or records of handling order cancellations properly.
We’re more than willing to update your review based on the evidence you provide—the more proof, the higher your trust score. Please note, however, that we cannot verify non-operational websites or those redirected to other URLs. Additionally, we do not verify websites involved in high-risk financial services, gambling, adult content, or illegal activities.
