Ticket Office

How the scam works:

You are visiting Egypt and ask the taxi driver to take you to a landmark you want to visit, say the Pyramids.

“Sure thing", he says. "We can stop by a ticket office first, so you buy it there, instead of waiting in a line-up at the Pyramids”. You appreciate the initiative and happily sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

He will take you to a “different” office, where his friend is selling overpriced tickets (ever heard of scalpers?).

How to avoid:

Taxi drivers are on a mission in most countries, especially when they are driving tourists around. Every time they stop somewhere along the way, they will try to get something out of you, direct or indirect. Always tell them exactly where you want to go – no round-about ways.
