Taxi Bikes

How the scam works:

In Vietnam, one of the most efficient ways to travel fast is by bike. Indeed, for tourists, there are several taxi-bikes available on most of the streets. They are called Xe Om, which means “Bike Hug”.

The problem is that – just like in any other touristy place - these rides are most of the time overpriced and sometimes even dangerous. Besides the fact that the driver will probably not have a license, you could easily be taken somewhere else and asked for your belongings.

How to avoid:

Trust your feelings, as there are some legitimate services around. Move away if the driver says: “Go first, pay later”. Negotiate very strict. An average price should be 2,000VND per kilometer.
