Egyptian Pound

How the scam works:

One of the most common scams pulled by shady Egyptian vendors is to offer you an apparently great price for an item and then nicely pack it for you.

After you pick it up and try to pay – he stops you and makes a scene. “I said 5 English Pounds, not Egyptian Pounds! You cheater!” The conversion for 5 English Pounds is 48 Egyptian ones.

Although most tourists leave the items behind, there are those who still buy it, not wanting to be embarrassed more than they already are.

How to avoid:

Make sure you make clear what currency he wants, first. If it’s too late, just leave it there, it is not worth it.
