Traffic Ticket Sticker Scam: How It Works

Scammers call claiming to be from the local Department of Public Safety (DPS) or a similar organization in your state or country - eg. Public Safety Canada, Public Safety and Law (Australia) or UK Public Safety Dept.

They are calling to say the organization is now offering a decal or sticker for your car, with the DPS logo. The stickers are to be placed beside the license plate and are meant to waive your next traffic ticket. To receive the sticker, you are required to pay $10. Obviously, since $10 is smaller than any traffic ticket, many people fall for this scam and the official lingo that the scammer is using over the phone.

But that is not all.

Traffic Ticket Sticker Scam: How To Avoid

If you get a traffic ticket you broke the law, so you will pay for that. There is no such thing as a DPS “life saver” sticker. Don't donate anything over the phone. Just don't speed, run the red light, or park illegally.
