Data Security Breach Text

How The Scam Works:

It doesn’t matter what cell phone service provider you have, one day you might receive a text message claiming to be from that company - whether is AT&T, Verizon, Telus, Vodafone, Rogers, etc.

The message claims that a data security breach has occurred and you have to call back a number, while having your name, address, and Social Security Number ready.

This scam originated in Ireland, where the scammers pretended to be from the office of DPC (Data Protection Commissioner)-- which is responsible for investigating breaches of the legislation and prosecuting the senders of spam emails and text messages.

 

How To Avoid The Data Breach Text Message Scam:

Whenever in doubt, call the real company and not the number provided in the message.
