YouTube Account Manager Scam

How the scam works:

If you post videos on YouTube on regular basis, you might receive a message that claims to be from the "YouTube Account Manager". The content of the message might look like this:

"We’d like to inform you that due to repeated or severe violations of our community guidelines and your YouTube account will be suspended 3 days from the time of this message. After careful review we determined that activity in your account violated our community guidelines, which prohibit spam, scams or commercially deceptive content. Please be aware that you are prohibited from accessing, possessing or creating any other YouTube accounts.

Please follow the following instructions to recover your account:

1. Please contact your account manager here: [compromised link]
2. You have to complete a quick survey to make sure you are human.
3. Wait for our email explaining the next steps.

* If you decide to ignore this message and not follow the above steps your account will be suspended."

Reports have been filed by many YouTube users complaining that they've been receiving this message.

The link provided is a survey scam; the crooks make cash from afiliiate commissions selling or getting you to click on those survey links. Examples might be: "Win a Mini Cooper One", "Win Money To Spend At ASDA", or "Win New Look Vocuhers". However, the links displayed will not only take you to various offers, surveys, and signups, but also might require you to download spcific software in order to go ahead with your progress of winning free stuff. Scammers send phishing links and malware as well, getting your computer infected and stripping you off personal information.

How to avoid:

If you receive a similar message, do not respond. If you are in doubt, contact YouTube directly and ask about this specific request.
