Who Viewed My Facebook Profile Scam: How It Works

There is a new mobile app that claims to help you out if you want to see who viewed your Facebook page, Instagram profile and or Twitter account. The app is called Last Visits Official and has been freely promoting itself in the Google Play and iTunes stores.

The scam has a new twist. One thing to keep in mind, if the app gets reported and kicked out from the stores, the scammers will create new ones using different names. It is then essential to learn how the scam actually works and not necessarily the name of it (which is still important). There are a couple of ways this scam works typically.

When it comes to Last Visits Official, here is how it works. Let's say you discover their bait, a good-looking advertising image promising to deliver the names of those who looked at your social media profiles.

If you click the link, it takes you to a webpage that has Twitter’s signature typeface and logo. Here it is:

The graphic contains the “Connect with Twitter” button which may look legitimate. When you click that it takes you to an authorization page asking for permission to “Post Tweets for you”. Since may real apps do that, you might continue to think Last Visits Official is just "another good one".

If you choose to authorize you will then be redirected to more scam pages that offer you the exciting opportunity to beta test the iPhone 8, which was released recently.

What's worse is the fact that the app begins posting advertisements for its services from your account within seconds. Victims reported that the app posts a tweet on your behalf every two minutes.

The content of the spamming tweets contains fake testimonials like “Incredible this :)” and “It is what I use everyday” along with an unsolicited link.

Who Viewed My Facebook Profile Scam: How to Avoid

Do not install the app on your phone or give permissions online. If it's too late, you are lucky. It's not a virus deployment app, so it’s pretty easy to disable it. Go to the “Applications” page for your profile and click the “Revoke access” button.
