How To Apply:

You are required to write an essay of minimum 800 words about one of the subjects below. Entries containing less than 800 words will be rejected, but feel free to go above the 2000 words limitation if you have much to say about your selected topic.

Here are the 5 steps:

1. Write An Essay Of 800+ Words

Pick one of the following three topics (A, B or C):

A. Tell us about a scam you heard of. Browse through the Scam Detector website and read a few articles in all categories (Financial Scams, Auto Scams, Social Media Scams, Travel Scams, Employment Scams, Real Estate Scams, Telephone Scams, Online Auctions/Tech Scams, and Face-to-Face Scams). Notice the editorial style of the articles and write a similar one, exposing a scam you have heard of. Maybe you were a victim of it or you know someone who was. Explain in detail how the scam works and support it with eventual references.

Make sure the structure of the article matches ours (start with a quick one-phrase overview of the industry, then how the scam works, then how to avoid it). Do not write in first person, just describe journalistically how criminals pull the scam. Here some examples as help: iPhone 8/iPhone X Review Scam, Instagram ScamsGovernment Grant Scam, Facebook Customer Service Scam, or Airline Free Tickets and Vouchers.

Another option for you is to write a How-To style article in regards to preventing fraud: eg. How To Identify Fake Profiles On Social Media or How Scammers Hack Into Your Social Media Accounts (make sure we don't have it already published).

B. Describe a unique creative marketing strategy for Scam Detector after you get familiar with it. For example, what would be 20 key partnerships you would do as CEO and why? Which companies you think would NEED to partner with our platform, for mutual benefit? Don’t necessarily think common sense fraud prevention agencies - e.g.. FBI, Police, etc. Think out of the box.

Focus more on the creative possibilities behind the partnerships, such as creating key products with these companies, implementing APIs, etc.  Also, what strategies you’d create to have to quickly increase the social media following for Scam Detector (without posting new articles or send a weekly newsletter)? Don't write in first person.

C. Over the last few years marketing evolved from traditional ways such as print and tv/radio ads, to a digital world of websites promoted on computers and mobile devices. What do you think might be the next innovative approach in marketing for fraud prevention? What would you do? What would you create? Go into an in-depth analysis on why you think that product, movement, or service would work.

You just need to select one topic and create a compelling 800 to 2000 words essay conveying your views. It is not the number of words that matter, but creativity, originality, research, depth of insights, as well as writing style that will get you extra points.

The winning submission should contain references, creative thinking, strategies, accuracy and correct grammar. Provided content must be unique. All essays will be checked for plagiarism and so they must be entirely your own work.

2. Post The Article To Your Blog/Website

This can be a student blog on your university website or your own website.
