Your Apple ID Was Used To Sign In To iCloud Via A Web Browser

 

Your Apple ID Was Used Scam: How It Works

This scam is very similar to the Your iCloud ID Has Been Deactivated scheme, which came around a few months ago. Exactly like the above-mentioned scam, this one works like this: if you are an Apple user you might receive a phishing email meant to trick you into handing over your password as well as other personal information.

This email is urging you to verify your iCloud ID and change your password as soon as possible, as "Your Apple ID was used to sign into iCloud via a web browser".

Here is the full content of the email:

Dear Customer,

Your Apple ID was used to sign in to iCloud via a web browser.

Date and Time: 21 January 2017, 09:42 AM GMT

Browser: Chrome Operating System:

Windows Country: Singapore

If the information above looks familiar, you can disregard this email. If you have not signed in to iCloud recently and believe someone may have accessed your account, go to Apple ID (Click here to Login - fake website) and change your password as soon as possible.

Sincerely, Apple Support"

You are then directed to a legitimate-looking website - apple-id.com-support-customers.gq, where you are asked to input your username and password (see photo above). However, this is a fake Apple website so ignore it.

 

How to avoid the Your Apple ID Was Used scam:

Look at how the sender addresses to you. In the case above, it says "Dear Customer". Apple calls you by your name. Delete the email and go ahead with your day. It's that simple.

Make your family and friends aware of this scam by sharing it on social media using the buttons provided. You can also officially report the scammers to the Apple using the link below:

According to Apple's website, if you receive what you believe to be a phishing email purporting to be from Apple, please send it to reportphishing@apple.com.

Forwarding the message with complete header information provides Apple with important information. To do this in OS X Mail, select the message and choose Forward As Attachment from the menu. For other email applications or webmail based services, consult your provider's support information to determine how to forward messages with complete headers.
