GoDaddy Account Verification Scam: How It Works

If you are the owner of a website hosted by GoDaddy, watch out for the latest scam, the GoDaddy Account Verification Email. The scam has been making a lot of victims out there precisely because it resembles the messages that the official GoDaddy Support Team sends out occasionally, so beware. How does the scam work? Let's take a look.

Watch the video below to see how the GoDaddy Support Email scam exposed:

It works like this: scammers send email notifications to thousands of random email advising the owners that GoDaddy has been unable to verify their account details. They say: "may be due to either of the following reasons: a recent change in your personal information (eg. address, phone) or submitting incorrect information during the registration process".

To ensure the email service is not interrupted, users are invited to confirm and update their information by clicking on a link provided. When clicking on that link, the new page opens up looks very similar to the official GoDaddy login page, but is a fake (see image below). When users provide their credentials, cybercrooks use that to access their accounts immediately and lock them out by changing their password. From there, they hijack their GoDaddy accounts and subsequently the personal information.

GoDaddy Account Verification Scam: How To Avoid

If you looked carefully at the image above, you noticed that the domain name is not godaddy.com but ddncsigns.com. That should be enough to decide if the email is a scam or not.

When making any account changes, such as password updates, only do so on the actual site of which you are making the change, in this case, www.godaddy.com.
