Hydro/Power Savings

How the scam works:

Household owners are contacted with an offer to buy a product that will cut their water costs. The callers claim to be representatives of the local power providers or water companies.

If accepted, the scammers either ask for payment over the phone (deposit or full amount) or come to people’s houses and install phony devices that won’t work, similar to the ones pulled in the Alarm System Scam.

How to avoid:

Saving money, especially in our current economic climate, might sound great; but don’t fall for this scam. Always call back the company itself to check the legitimacy after you hang up with the caller.
