Phone Call While Negotiating

How the scam works:

You are in a dealership and negotiate the price of a car with a salesperson. You really love the car and try to get off as much as possible.

Suddenly, the agent's cell phone rings and it is clear that the caller is interested in exactly the same car. The agent talks loud and lets you understand the caller is offering more than you are.

The salesperson promises the caller he'll phone him back in a few minutes because "right now I have a client for the same car".

He hangs up the phone and asks if you want to match or outbid the caller's offer. "This is a great car and it won't be here long", the agent says. Don't fall for this scam, as the caller is a co-worker who is watching you through a glass screen helping him make the sale.
