Highway Speeding Ticket

How the scam works:

(with video below) Millions of people drive toll roads everyday to work, to school or to other activities. The failure to pay a toll is the driving force behind this latest scam in the United States, which currently takes place in Georgia - GA 400 toll. However, it could be used anywhere there is a toll road so it is worth taking heed to avoid becoming a victim.

In the Highway Speeding Ticket scam, a caller who identifies himself as being a sheriff’s deputy tells the victims that there is a warrant out for their arrest for supposedly failing to pay a toll by speeding through the toll plaza. The caller then tells the victim that they can avoid arrest by paying a fine via telephone, and requests their credit card information or a money order. Of course, this is a scam to bilk you out of your hard-earned money.

How to avoid:

Be aware that no law enforcement agency conducts their business over the telephone, especially when there is a warrant for someone’s arrest. And they will never call to request payment to avoid being arrested. If you receive a call like this, hang up and contact the law enforcement agency that claims to be calling to verify the veracity of the information being given.
