After the panhandler approaches you, he continues on to say that he forgot his wallet at home. He may hand you a fake business card or write down a name, address and phone number. Very apologetic, he mumbles: "I just need $10-$15, Sir, to get a few liters until I get home. I'll return the money, if you just give me your number as well. I will call you as soon as I get home".

Seeing him well dressed and respectful, chances are you will hand him a $10 bill. If you offer him a ride or a cell phone to call his family, he will find a reason to refuse it and move away.

Well, this scenario happens lately at hundreds of gas stations lately, as it has been reported on several forums and complaint boards.

We all forget our wallets at home one time or another. However, if you are approached, make sure you see their car and the proof that they actually own it. Also, there is no shame in asking them to show you ID. Business cards don't count.
