Gift Cards Online

How the scam works:

Gift cards are very popular nowadays, but unfortunately there are many crooks out there that find ways to rip victims off on regular basis. One of the latest scams is the "Join the Club" trick, meant to lure people into give away their personal information.

There are many legitimate services like this online, in this specific scam whenever you buy gift cards online you will be asked by some to join a club in order to complete the transaction. Upon joining, you will discover (a few weeks after) that you are paying a small membership fee every month.

In their fine print, “joining the club” means accepting the membership fee.

How to avoid: Learn how to distinguish reputable companies from bogus ones. Check to see if there is a way to opt out. If there isn’t, cancel the transaction and buy your gift card elsewhere and use only legitimate companies. Read reviews about the company online. Check forums and search engines by typing in their name. Only rely on reputable companies. One of the most trustworthy services out there is Swagbucks, which is the world's largest free online rewards program. You get paid by doing things online which you might do anyway, such as searching the web, discover products, take surveys, watch videos, or play games. You can also get free iTunes and Amazon cards. The company has a A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. You can register for free HERE. They offer a $5 sign-up bonus.
