Facebook: Authentic Account

Blocked On Facebook Scam: How It Works

There are very few people who do not spend at least part of their day checking friends’ status updates on Facebook.

This ubiquitous technology has become the bar or coffee shop in terms of social places to hang out with friends. And of course, with the sheer volume of Facebook users comes the opportunistic scammers, looking to make a quick buck off of the gullibility of others.

In the Blocked on Facebook Scam aka Facebook Authentic Account Scam – a typical phishing scheme – users are receiving messages stating that their account is going to be blocked because it may not be an “authentic” account.

The user is given a link on which they are to click to “reconfirm” the account. They are told that failure to do so will cause their account to be permanently removed from Facebook. Below is how such a scam email looks like:

"Notice Blocking Facebook Account

We have received feedback that your account may not be authentic. Facebook is a community where people share and interact using real identity.

Please reconfirm your Facebook account below:

Attention:

All accounts that are not verified within 24 hours will be removed from our database and the user will not be able to use it again.

Thank you for your attention."

Blocked On Facebook Scam: How To Avoid

Facebook will never send a message asking for one to reconfirm their account. Do not click on any links in such a message; it will compromise your login information as well as personal identifying information and possibly your financial information as well.

Be advised that these messages, and the ensuing pages they take you to should you click on the link, are extremely professional looking, making it much easier to believe in their legitimacy.
